  • Because they are upselling.  What is wrong with the detergents in the diesel you buy?  You could pay more and buy Premium Diesel if you wanted to.    Arnold Clark,s call centre guy offered me fuel add

  • No.

  • They  will sell / use stuff with a VW /Audi logo on it made by whoever.   They are not into reading Owners Manuals.

I really appreciate your advice, just wondered why local dealership is 'promoting' it, also I was advised by a mate that it's good for the overall health of the engine?

Funny you should mention that, a current job vacancy at a Skoda dealership:

Thanks. AG Falco

Some dealers sell products that are not VW branded, whether they should be is a different matter, but some do seem to do so.

Indeed.

Some even charge for stuff like special fan spray Windscreen Wash made from the tears of angels, even though the car went in with a full washer bottle.

The top fraud is charging for a Sump Plug and VAT on that when the sump plug was not actually removed or replaced.

Mony a mickle maks a muckle especially when stuff is charged for and still sitting in the stock room.

Deffo not, just like if you see a used car and in the boot is some Redex walk away

Main Stealers are notorious for "up-selling stuff", by which I mean trying to persuade you to buy things that won't do any good, as long as they're not provably harmful.

Just wondering.
For what reason/s, apart from the stealer profit-improvement aspect, does everyone say or even SCREAM no?
Snake oil? Not required? Does not improve performance? Dangerous?

I use Liqui Moly SuperDiesel on mine and Supremium Diesel from Wynns when travel to Bulgaria and Greece where diesel fuel is crap and car looses power.

Both gave great results.

On previous Volvo I used them for 5(105k km)  years tens of cans literally.

wynns helps with slightly longer distances between regens.

When I bought the car (second hand) was a bit down on power and Liqui Moly helped alot to restore it.

vcds shows dpf in a great shape

I'm a big fan

I been using Millers Diesel Power Ecomax 500ml and it been fine

Good @35North

We will never know if it would be fine if you had not like others have ran theirs.

Here in Ireland we can get Dipetane.  Not sure if you get it in the UK or not.  On some forums you will see people saying that when they put their car in for its NCT (Ireland version of the MOT) if failed the emissions test.  Then after running the car for a period of time with Dipetane in the diesel it passed the retest no bother.  Also threads saying the NCT tester recommending using Dipetane to get cars passed the emissions test.  It's a Hydrocarbon fuel treatment that is supposed to make the fuel burn more efficiently reducing carbon and emissions.

I see lots of claims that $this and $that, but no actual explanations of things like the chemical reaction mechanisms that are implied by the claims.

I use Millers in our diesel Fiesta, but it's pre-DPF and I don't use it very often, TBH.

I have found Millers to not cause any problems with pre-PDF Ford TDCI engines. (Mondeo and Fiesta.)

Would I use it in a modern diesel? Probably not. I think I'd rather fill up with fancy fuel instead.

But the "fancy" fuel is  "a standard" fuel with additives. What difference does it make, who adds additives? Fuel from different manufacturers come form 1-2 sources anyway. That is why there should be no difference if you fuel your car at Tesco or Shell/BP, etc. I personally fuel at Shell because of VPower 99, whereas Tesco and other garages provide 97 Octanne fuel. My tiny Sandero does see thedifference if I fuel it with 95 or 99 Octane fuel. Still, I fuel it with 99 plus Millers.

Also, what matters to me, is less ethanol in 99 octane fuels (E5 vs E10) and only for this reason I would buy the more expensive fuel but not because it has some additives.

@lmb Where do you get facts from?

Maybe you need to actually find out about E10 95 Ron and E5 Super Unleaded 97 or 99 ron Minimum in the UK.

Royal Dutch Shell V-Power was 98 ron years ago while Tesco Momentum was 99 ron and always has been 99 Ron Min.   Greenergy that produces it partners with Shell importing base fuels.

BP was 98 ron minimum for years in the UK before going to 97 Min.   Sainsburys E5 97 Ron Minimum can be 99 ron min depending on where the supplies come from as the market prices change.   Greenergy supply Independents as well as the biggest retailers.

Then as far as E5.  That is not the same Ethanol content all around the UK or from the different distributors or depots.

I am running my 25 mpg Diesel on the 10 pence a litre more expensive Gulf premium diesel simply because it stinks less and smokes less on start up now, and often never goes as much as 25 miles a week.

If you mean between fuel retailers then I agree, if you mean between the fuel companies blending additives and a pigeon pouring snake oil that they know zilch about into their fuel tank then there is a massive difference.

I cannot see any reason why not to throw €50 notes out of the window while driving other than to save not waste money!
