  • If you think the Cantom system is “OK”, you should heard the OEM systems in a well equipped car 25 years ago; trust me, there’s no comparison. It’s a car, so it’s not designed for the production of

quite probably. I doubt *very* much you'll find a schematic. But what's the part? part of the issue is that you don't *know* it's the thermistor or sensor that's broken, that's just the symptom you see, that the fan no longer turns on. Could be a broken Chip no longer sending a signal, a broken transistor or mosfet no longer switching or a diode that conducts in both directions.

Honestly, if this is the only issue you have with it, I would try something like the externally temp controlled fan for a while and try to replace the amp in the near future when one runs across your path or it breaks (or both).

Came across this topic by chance, besides the argument lots of technical info, very interesting.

I was hoping to find if someone else gets the feeling that Canton in the SIII is missing a bit of a 'punch'. I mean I am not saying I need a boooooming bass to give me stomachache, but both my previous cars - A6 C4 Avant with Bose and the RR P38 with Haman & KArdon - were a bit more "rich" in terms of the bass presence in the car. The Superb is surprisingly 'clear', but I feel leaves me somewhat empty. Might be just an impression, but is there anyway to make it enter more the scene other than the simple +/- levels in the audio setup display?

I have strapped my trusty old Pioneer Sub in place.  It adds some more bass depth for sure but it also saves having to have the bass cranked on the equaliser making an easier life for the OEM gear.

I have the remote for it in the centre console, x-over is set to @70Hz / 80Hz and IMHO it blends in very nicely with the Canton system and probably worth mentioning that the Canton sub is still working too, I have just tapped into it's dual coil feed and connected this to the two  speaker-level inputs on the Pioneer.

Please note this pic is before I completed the job, i.e. there are no wires visible or bits of blue foam now.

Hi

I have the Canton sub and the tinsel wire keeps going.

I will fix it but want to add another sub.

How did you tap into the Canton sub? Crocodile clips? Solder?

What subwoofer is this?

Hi Guy's

The Sub is a Pioneer TS-WX710A

It has "speaker level" inputs so I have made up a mini-loom using bullit connectors, it fits in-line to the 4-wire connector that plugs into the OEM sub.

These 4 wires are just 2 spreaker feeds, the Pioneer sub has a seperate left & right input, i.e. it's a 2 ch, 2 speaker unit.

So one pair of the 4-wire connector feeds one of the Pioneer inputs, the other pair feeds the second. I have done it this way to make it easy to remove as I can just remove my loom and join the original loom wiring back together with bullit connectors.

An easier way would be to use the Scotch-Lock "T" connectors on the 4 wires that plug into the OEM sub. I did have to take that apart to identify what wires made up the 2 seperate pairs/feeds to the speaker coils.

taking the side panel out was the biggest PITA if I remember, I have no idea if this sub is still made? I have had it many years in many cars, it still works great though. It is made of heavy MDF hence all the strapping it down

Hi , I have a 2019 Superb SEL Executive that has the sound system that comes with the car.

I find sound is subjective and in all honesty I find the overall experience satisfactory and while the music will never win any oscars it does a job.

My previous car had a Harman Kardon system and not really sure if the sound was better !

Not entirely sure what this adds to the thread...

The standard sound system is pretty awful. It's better than my Leon, but in that car I couldn't hear the music over the rattling.

That said, the Canton system isn't exactly Burmester! scotchWe've had cars with Bose, B&O and Harmon Kardon. I think the former sounded the best, but it was also the most substantial with the most sound deadening.

Scotchlok connectors are brilliant, but AFAIK they are more meant for lower powered applications? XT60/XT90 connectors are very nice for car audio - I prefer them to bullet.

Hi , I feel it adds to the thread but that's your right to disagree.

As I stated the system in my car does a job and but sound is certainly not awful to my old ears.

I believe that the car has a major influence on the sound produced just as the room in a hi fi system is critical

Without proper sound deadening (not a talking point of Skoda, VW, SEAT, etc) you're quite limited. I would bet a cheap system in a properly prepped car will sound better than a custom 18 speaker system in a 2007 VW Fox.

The standard sound system is, again, pretty awful in the grand scheme of things, but it absolutely does the job. I didn't buy my car for the sound system, and once tweaked with it's perfectly acceptable for what it is. The system in your Superb might be (probably is) slightly better, with more sound proofing - I know the Superb is quite a bit more substantial than the Octavia inside.

Ultimately, you're in a metal box travelling down a bumpy road. Without having the sound proofing and interior quality of a higher end car, any audio system is going to have its work cut out.

Hi , my last car was a Mercedes C207 that had a Harmon Kardon 12 speaker system installed.

How did it sound , nothing special for a premium German brand. You are correct in saying that the installation is paramount.Whilst my wife went shopping I listened to the system in my car and for the purchase price of the car 28 k and the Mercedes was 56 k I feel the skoda system representatives value for money.

I suppose I could change the speakers ( If enough room ) but not really into that modification.

Proper sound deadening is a far more important upgrade. Annoyingly (well, deliberately) you can't just add on a sub to the base audio system. It would be a whole new install which, for most people, is more hassle than it's worth.

Returned from Wiltshire today and the service on the cars DAB + radio was patchy to say the least.

Will be trying the FM service next and see what the reception is like

As I stated on my previous transmission I stated I would comment on the FM service.

Considerable better with no loss of service and the sound / quality was fine.
