Drivers door lock UK Right side

Featured Replies

So I believe part of the door lock barrell went, as the key would just turn 360⁰ and not lock/unlock the door.

My key fob only unlocks the car when I hold it right next to the window which was driving me crazy, I wanted to replace the central locking but figured it would be best to do the door lock first.

However, since removing the door lock it appears skoda decided to make their own unit that cannot be separated and has to be fully replaced, which is quite frustrating. I'm not having any luck finding a right hand sided door lock replacement online, there are loads for left hand side but none for right hand side.

My question is, can you use a left hand side lock on the right hand sided cars? Or will it not work?

On top of that, surely I will need a new key to go with it? It's driving me mad that you can't just take the barrel apart like every other lock mechanism.

Any help would be massively appreciated as I'm having a meltdown rn.

Hey chap. Had same problem with the 360 degree rotation syndrome on my Mk2 - only has mechanical locking and YES I successfully changed the RHS for the LHS mechanism. That was a couple of years ago and still working well.

LHS as much use as a chocolate fireguard now and does not function at all, but hey ho if it's saved me hundreds on getting new lock barrels/keys/re-training the security protocols electronically etc.

Think I've only bought myself some time, though, and at some point will have to bite the bullet and do it properly.

Wasn't too difficult to take the barrels out and swap them round.

Go for gold!
Steve
