Octavia vRS FL first impressions

Nope I wouldn’t say so. They sit inside the outer edge of the alloy.

  • Here's my attempt at doing that:

  • Hello. So here's a couple of screenshots of the instrument cluster (there's also a screen for the navigation but didn't want to take pictures of that, but it's mostly the same option of layouts). Bonu

Ok thank you!

Where can you order wheel nut covers and centre caps from? Are they a standard fit or do you need to specify? Thanks.

I ordered mine from the dealer before picking the car up, probably cheaper options available!

Moving away from aero covers for a moment, does anyone know what this is? Had the car valeted this week and the guy puts anything he finds into the glovebox for safe keeping. This was in the glovebox after the valet but he can’t remember where he found it.

Looks like some sort of protective insert for a storage compartment? I can take a look tomorrow.

I found the same under my driver's seat when new car was delivered. The top small edge felt sticky I think, maybe a delivery thing to keep pedals clean? No idea

Had a nosey earlier, couldn’t find anything obvious.

Another question 😇, what oil does the Mk 4.5 use? I was just wondering if it was the same type as the Mk 3? Thanks .

0W-20 with VW 508 00 or 509 00 specification from what I can tell.

Yes I agree totally. I wanted to like an RS Audi and tried the RS3 and RSQ3 but heaps of turbo lag made it feel pretty gutless unless you really got stuck into it which realistically you just don’t 90% of the time. I know some people argue the Octavia RS is too expensive but even as the price has risen over the years it strikes me as a performance bargain. I wasn’t even going to test drive an Octavia as I thought 245hp just wasn’t enough. The extra 20hp gives a noticeable zing at the top end and the other changes vs the gen4 are all positive (no sound generator, much bigger and faster screen etc…)

I am looking forward to getting mine. Got to wait until November but that will soon go by. And I have my Mk 3 in the meantime….🙂

So, wheel aero covers left on the wheels or not- I actually quite like the look of them….but I want to be able to clean the wheels properly….🤔

Just cleaned mine. You won’t be able to clean the inside of the rim with the covers on.

Check your clips! Popped out randomly. Showed dealer and they’ve ordered a new air vent unit, to be replaced next week.

Passenger side vent clip fell off on my previous vRS, felt like very thin plastic. With the heat cycles it's surprising that more didn't just pop off

Do any of you new VRs owners use 99RON petrol (UK) in your 4.5s or just use normal unleaded? If you so is there any difference to performance? Thanks.

I use 98RON in NZ. The fuel flap says 95 minimum. I’ve been told the optimum performance that is quoted is at 98 with a small reduction in torque at 95. Probably not much in it but the EA888 evo4 is a pretty high compression engine for a turbo (9.6:1) so it makes sense to me. The extra cost doesn’t bother me but I’m sure it’s just fine on 95 too and have out that in if 98 wasn’t available. I’m usually a stickler for not going higher than the minimum on the basis that it doesn’t do anything but there is clearly a detonation risk in a hot, high compression relatively high performance turbocharged engine so I see it as cheap insurance to get the most out of the engine.

Has anybody else found the front windscreen on the Mk4.5 quite prone to condensation along the bottom compared to other cars? I don’t think I have a moisture problem as other windows don’t steam up but as we’ve started to move towards winter I’m finding I have to have warm AC on the front windscreen even when it’s not particularly damp weather.

E5 for the first few refills. I then tried E10 from a supermarket (I know) and difference was noticeable, so I returned back to E5.

Yes same here. My AC is on permanently so it does clear quickly. On a separate note, do you find the wipers are a bit rubbish?

Job complete. I also asked the dealers to fix the tracking as steering wheel was sitting a little to the left.

Now that winter is approaching I’m considering fitting mud guards. Any 4.5 owners have them installed?

Uk owner here, yes I try to run on E5 majority of time.I am a low mileage driver so extra cost doesn't really bother me.I have found on the MK4 and MK4 F/L I get slightly more miles/Gallon and a noticeable performance improvement. Also I believe i read about there being an issue with internal condensation with E10 fuel which sits for a time, I might only fill up once a month sometimes.

I use Tesco or Esso E5 usually.

I have fitted Front and Rear mudflaps to both my previous MK4 and my new MK4f/l. They look ok and cut down the mess down the sides. There is a guide on here somewhere on how to fit.

here are a couple of links the process is very similar.

On the fuel it obviously is different if ethanol is in the fuel. Ethanol has good anti knock qualities hence its use blended with petrol to increase the octane rating but it has 30% less energy during combustion then petrol. So E10 is 3% less performance overall than pure petrol.

Luckily in NZ it is pretty easy to avoid fuel that contains ethanol with most of the major suppliers not using it.

Just got a new Race Blue VRs Estate to replace my 2022 VRs Challenge Hatch. The annoying fake V8 sound has been removed but car is far more responsive in Normal and Sport. Previously Ecco was almost undriveable and saved virtually no fuel but now seems to be useable. Generally drive in Personal which tightens things up.

Virtual cockpit doesn’t seem to nearly as programmable as on the old car. Cannot find how to get fuel consumption since start or refuel, only, historic or instant. Can’t believe it’s not available on the screen but despite spending ages can’t find it. Previous poster showed how to get it from the entertainment screen but settings only gives revolving car and option to rest the mileage and consumption.

Anyone any suggestions?
