Skoda Sportline Exhaust

Featured Replies

Hi team,

Hoping this awesome forum can help me out. I have joined the Skoda crew and picked up a 2019 MY19 Skoda Superb Sportline. It is 162kw and front wheel drive, I believe sporting the Golf GTI engine. I can't seem to find if the exhaust on it is valved however, seems some models have it and some don't. From the sounds of things I don't think it is it but wanted to confirm! I have added a photo of under the car if that helps.

Also, what are my options for exhausts, if not valved I wouldn't mind adding a valved back box in to give some noise because atm it's way to quite! Maybe need to cut out the rear bumper to fit it? I'm not a fan of the fake chrome exhausts in all honesty would probably like to fit a real exhaust. Any suggestions welcomed

Cheers

I thought the valve was only mounted on early 280s until FL.

I think you could look into it, as it fits to original looking tailpipe muffler.

The FWD does not have the valved exhaust.

Only the 280 AWD version does.

I have the same 220 FWD Superb - I recently put an RPM Performance Anti-drone Resonator Delete pipe.

Increases the noise slightly, but not loud.

Adds a nice note when pushing it.

Do you think it would be a hassle to install on mine since it doesn't have the valved exhaust from the sounds of it?

That sounds a lot better than stock, nice.

I might go this route and then add a valved muffler to close it around the neighbours and early morning cold starts.

Did you keep the stock muffler? I see the chrome bottom fake exhaust on the bumper is still there

@skoda_turners - yes, I still have the stock mufflers on both sides.

I like the look of the Sportline diffuser as it matches the theme of Gandalf.

Not sure why u want valved OEM exhausts.

A number of 280 owners have coded their exhaust valves to b permanently open so they can hear it. Even with it open, it's not "loud" enough. Ur neighbours won't notice.

Instead, get a full aftermarket or custom built valved exhaust setup. That involves the downpipe, centre resonator, and the dual mufflers.

However this route is very expensive and hardly any off the shelf aftermarket options that will b direct bolt on.

I agree with JR above, I cant tell the difference between valve open or not for my 280.

I've been tempted to get the backboxes opened up to see if an exhaust shop can alter whats inside to make the valve worth it.

As for yours, its tricky to know as the OPF I think blocks out most of the sound now on modern engines and Id imagine yours will have one.

In my country you aren't actually allowed manually controlled valved exhausts, since the Golf R has it wired in and automatically opens up at certain RPMs (or drive mode?), it would allow it to be road legal.

That is why I am thinking to add a similar pipe like yours and add in the box from a Golf or similar, so I still get the benefit of closed valve at low speeds

Could you keep the stock valved backboxes in and add an after market pipe like JR? I am assuming you aren't hearing a difference because there isn't actually noise coming through the backboxes because of the restrictions in the stock exhausts.

Potentially, I haven't overly thought about it. Theres other things I personally would prioritise on mine, such as getting a gearbox map and an upgraded rear ARB. I'm holding off doing anything to it whilst its still under finance though.

Don't suppose you have the part number for this, can't see if on their website.

I'm assuming ur asking the part number for the RPM Performance Anti-drone resonator delete pipe?

If so, it's RPM-SKODA-VRSADRD

The chap at RPM was good to talk to. I was looking at one of these; jumped on the phone to see which one was the right one (as I think Cupra Formentor is a better fit for the AWD as opposed to Golf/S3 etc.). He mentioned I might want to look under the car to check I had one as some models had had them removed from 2019 onwards. I don't think it ran in line with EA888.4 engine or the GPF being brought in - either way, quick video under the car with the phone revealed the FL 280 doesn't actually have one.

That is correct, we lost the valve, gained a gear, and the GPF and more restrictive options. Some win, some lose.

A few Superb 280 owners here in Oz have fitted the one made for the Cupra Formentor. Fits well.

The Golf R version is no good.

I initially made the error of buying the Golf GTi version for my 220 Superb, only for it to b all wrong.

The Octavia RS version was the right fit for the 220.

Right. Toyed with this in my mind. Looks very subtle and would like to do the same.

@MartiniB did your original exhaust have the trim attached to the end of the pip or the bumper?

The 280 is attached to the pipe by the looks of it - so would this be a case of cutting the old pipe and clamping these new parts on? If so, the pipe diameter is important? I’m guessing by this point it doesn’t overlap matter if it isn’t an exact fit, as long as it clamps on tightly and fits in well to the bumper trim etc

attached to cut pipes, pictures before upgrade

with my previous 220ps the main motivation was the absence of exhaust tips at all

haven't repeated that on current 280ps as got OEMs

Cheers buddy. All the links are too old so searching for other items. Wouldn’t mind some graphite-coloured ones as they look subtler but there are so many options it just leads to option paralysis!

Been in contact with my local PowerFlow Exhaust company and they can do the res delete for about £120 all in so have this booked in now

Will be looking at doing the exhausts with them also but wanting to get the valance/diffuser first so that can get the staggered tips I want

I hope the res delete is not just a straight pipe... unless u don't mind drone.

I’ve done a lot of looking and comparing. These look too square and not like yours which seem to compliment the inner angle of the cutout.

No criticism, I’m just being picky and will keep looking…

Thats a good point and it wasn't, so thats for getting me to check.

Just spoken with RPM but they are not sure on the Octavia fitting the Superb, can you confirm that this is the right pipe and I will order it, or if anyone has any underneath pictures of their car 2wd

That is the exact one I have on my FWD 220 - fits great, sounds good, no drone at all.

More details on my build thread here.

Comparison video of the sound differences....
