Warning error code

Featured Replies

Hello, on my Felicia 1.6 Sainte Maxime Break 1997 warning are lighting 34 times and stop and again and again .... What kind problem could it be? Sorry for my english ... i'm french ;)

Hi, welcome.

Sorry much more information is needed to try to help. What warning light has come on and gone off 34 times, what is the warning light for? Look at the car's 'Owners Manal' for the VW terminology for that warning light and what it means).

What is happening when the light comes on or is it on at turning the ignition switch on? What causes the lighjt to go off?

Do you notice any problem or issue with the car?

How long have you owned the car and do you know any of the servicing, maintenance and repair history of the car?

You might find it easier to use a translation system to get your post in English.

I hope this helps you.

Hello, thank you for your reply. Yes, I'll use a translator. That will be better! The vehicle is practically a one-owner car, as it belonged to my grandfather who bought it new. It just had a service and the alternator is new. No other faults to report (144,000 km). But as soon as the engine starts (so even when stopped), the hazard lights come on and follow the same pattern every time: they flash 34 times, stop, and then flash another 34 times, and so on continuously. This leads me to believe it's some kind of error code... I'm open to any ideas or if anyone has encountered a similar problem. Thank you in advance.

Hello again, I just tested it again. The hazard lights flash 34 times as soon as the ignition is switched on (engine not running) and continue the cycle even if I switch the ignition off and remove the key. When the vehicle is off, the hazard lights work normally. The fuse is okay, and all the bulbs are fine. Thank you for your feedback and ideas.

Possibly an alarm, either factory or aftermarket?

For sure the fuse-bulbs are OK since you have the blinks.

As @R_U_AFA said check your alarm, discontinue it (remove it's own plug) and made a test, if the multiple blink stops the it's the culprit because it was giving the command.

''Retirez temporairement l'alarme de votre voiture (débranchez-la). Si les clignotements cessent, c'est bien elle qui est en cause''.

If your grandad has kept the instructions for any aftermarket alarm then that should tell you about what flashing indicators mean. The fact that it is 34 times seems significant but too many for a code I would guess, the regular amount of flashing and the interval between may be about time interval rather than number of flashes. IIRC codes were about 3, 4 or 5 flashes, not that I ever added alarms and were annoyed by those already fitted at factory, they seemed to stop few thefts and break-ins and were a PITA (pain in the arse) when they played up.

Good luck.

Hi. Thanks for all your feedback and opinions. This solidarity is really great, I appreciate it. I don't think there's an alarm (at least nothing that sounds). Maybe there's a kill switch somewhere to prevent starting? I do think there's a red LED hidden behind a plastic cover under the steering wheel on the left. Do you think it's easy to remove? Thanks again for your helpful advice.

I checked the location I mentioned, and indeed, there's an alarm or immobilizer box that's also connected to the central locking system. I have two central locking remotes that I thought were genuine Skoda parts, but that doesn't seem to be the case... There are three fuses with the box: two red and one yellow. Do you think I could try disconnecting them one at a time to see if that makes a difference? Is there a risk of disabling the immobilizer? Thanks again!IMG_6876.jpg

This is what you have:

It's not factory, this is the genuine:

If i hidden Kill Switch has a led to show the On-Off function it's not a ''Kill Switch'' but a ''here i am disconnect me Mr Thief" device. 😄

There are some types of ''Kill Switch'', other cut the fuel other the battery other the ignition etc.

To me all these immobilisers and alarms are nothing but a bloody nuiance, particularly on a car of this age, as they do go wrong and pack in and then you either need to search high and low for the exact replacement or work out how to wire in another model of alarm/imobiliser or work out how to get the wiing back to factory standard. This might be easy if the installation was done correctly but often someone who claimed to know how to fit the alarm either didn't or done the work incorrectly.

A mate's just had this issue on a 1996 car, of an entirely diffent sort of car, that would have had a factory fitted imobilser but not the silly alarm. After two failed replacement alarm/imobilsers he had them disconnected and just used a remote controled battery disconnect as an immobiliser but just recently has had wiring issues that highlited the worse bodge of wiring and multiple unecessary connectors I have even seen. A good auto-electrician also said the same as me, I knew he would, and has just made safe and sorted the non-working essentials with a major part-rewire to correct colours, connectors and standards later.

With cars (and home) I've often seen electrical bodges on top of previous electrical bodges which just compounds the complexities of getting it right for full confidence of fully sorting things to all correct.

Note: I'm not an electrician of any sort.

The very next month that company (Chinese usually) may close and there is no way to find spare parts plus when a problem show-up and go to the electrician the most common answer is: ''i don't know this, there are no diagrams so i can not do anything about it".

So you have to remove it or if you are possessed with that function you buy from another brand, you pay to install it and after few months or years again the same.

The tragedy is when the problem show-up in a trip to the country or in National Highway, the solution is a tow truck and back home and your vacations are ruined.
