I've just had a windscreen cracked - the second time in less than six months of owning my Superb. Both times it was a stone chip on a motorway, nothing obvious to be throwing up stones, not near a bridge. Apart from one easily repaired chip, I don't think I've ever had a windscreen crack in upwards of 500,000 miles in various cars.

Is this just bad luck or is there some "feature" that makes the windscreen more vulnerable in the current generation?

Reckon its just bad luck. Only windscreen that went on me was on an old Fiat 131. Old school non laminated one that exploded into little bits. Scared the **** out of me. Saw the big stone come out between lorry wheels in front of me and bang.

It could maybe be the angle of windscreen or perhaps they are being made thinner these days to lighten car that makes them more prone to cracking. Hope as you have had two go you wont have any more for the next 500k at least

Two cracked screens in half a million miles is not bad odds, really. Just so happens that they both occured within six months. "Them's the breaks..."

@pabenny Please keep us updated with your repair. Mine cracked following an attempted repair on a stone chip, I have to visit a windscreen depot to get the whole thing replaced. I'm nervous following tales about getting the various sensors re-mounted and re-calibrated. Hope yours goes smoothly.

I have a 2022 Superb so 3 1/2 years old now, 132k on the clock, and on its 4th windscreen - I think its just bad luck, although not helped that I do a lot of motorway miles so anything that hits it hits hard.

I had a stone chip within 2 weeks of ownership. Got it repaired but may need to get it done again as the recent hot weather has compromised it me thinks as it has become more visible again. Also, the matte grey plastic surround for the front grille is very soft and looks terrible when that gets stone chips.

Would be interested to know how the ADAS calibration and the like went. I’m hoping I get a crack in mine soon - it’s scratched to hell.

Hey! wadda ya doing with that hammer? 🤣

First replacement was just fine, no issues with the ADAS. The only problem was that the first screen sent was the wrong one - fortunately they hadn't removed the old screen - and then the correct one didn't show up when expected.

For me, the ADAS wasn’t an issue, the team at the windscreen depot did everything in just over two hours. And yes, my original screen was also scratched to hell!
