Hi all, hope you don't mind, but I'm actually an Ibiza TDi Sport owner sneaking in from SeatCupra.net :D

I'm wondering if there any many high mileage (around 100k miles or more) Fabia's about? I'm trying to get an idea if there's any potential surprises in store for me as I approach 100k.

My car is a Jan 03 52-plate with 83,200(ish) miles on at present.

My wallet is a bit :( this week with the 80,000 service (late I know but I've been away with work a lot). That threw up the need for new discs and pads, O/S/F front wishbone rear bush is dead (with the N/S bush not far behind it) and new tyres (which I was expecting soon but the uneven wear due to the bushes had killed the inside edges).

Tyres I've had done and if I keep the car, I need to fix the bushes ASAP and change the brakes soon. The engine feels very strong and doesn't use much oil at all.

Any information from folks with similar or more miles on their Fabia would be very gratefully received.

PS. Now I think about it, it's still on it's original clutch, so I wonder how much longer that might last. It doesn't slip at the moment...

I think you've covered pretty much everything. I personally think its well worth keeping on top off all maintenance and problems - well looked after I think over 200k should be achievable... JMTPW.

A couple of problems (off the top of my head) I experienced during my year of ownership...

Track rod arm needs replacing

Battery dies

Clutch pedal snaps

Evap Temp Sensor packs up (no air con!)

Heated seat packs up

Seat base mounting dangerously loose (according to MOT)

Boots on brake calipers perish

Engine undertray falls off

Creaky/squeaky dash

my 2.0 fabia is on 92k at the moment and there's not much to report really. except i had to change the clutch recently, which is normal at that sort of milage.. the only other thing is my arb bushes are getting saggy, and the gearbox is a little noisy. but other than that everything else seems ok...

I've replied to Chris in his similar thread on SCN.

The Ibiza now has around 105k on and is still going strong, we plan to drive to Scotland in it in a few weeks time and I have every confidence in it. The car still drives very well and the engine is a peach.

We've had the front wishbone rear bushes changed and it's not unexpected as it's a common wear and tear item on this chassis.

The front ARB bushes are in need of replacement, we've been quoted

Hmm... our estate has over 100k on the clock and hasn't had too many problems really:

Disintegrating battery (replaced under warranty)

Loose driveshaft nuts (replaced by a modified part under warranty)

ARB loose (replaced by modified just out of warranty part that still seems OK)

Worn droplinks (replaced out of warranty)

Broken clutch pedal (twice!... but second time caused by bad dealer fitment of original replacement)

Broken wiring to alternator casuing flat battery (a known problem with VW's apparently and sorted very quickly by the dealer.

Other than that I think it's mainly been wear and tear items such as tyres and brakes, although the rear bump stops are in two at the moment (I may just araldite them back together!)

We've also had that but it was spotted by JBS before any running problems were noticed.

Do 1,000 miles per week in Fabia vRS as a driving instructor. My car is January 04 and has covered 102,000 to date. No major problems. Clutch is still good even with all the abuse it gets from learners. Only thing that needed replacing underwarranty was a bottom engine mount bush and the rear wiper motor. Engine and gearbox are good as new, only major service items done are front brake discs and cam belt. I reckon it will be good for another 100k, after which I will probably get it resprayed and refurbished, but will definitely never sell it. Best small car I've ever owned, and I've had lots. Might get another though as a back up, but will wait for new model, would that be due next year??

Ive got 100k on the clock of a 51plate tdi. On its 2nd clutch, which I think is wearing out but thats no surprise! Rear bump stops replaced and its had a few shocks (bloody speed bumps!) Evap sensor replaced, (not uncommon), track rod end and its on its 3rd maf! But I still love it! Oh and need a new drivers seat as it has a hole in the fabric.

Not been on here for a while so didn't see this.

My 51 reg PD100 is up to 186K.

It's needed:

* a new turbo

* a new battery

* power steering sensor

* the man at Kwikfit told me at the weekend that it needs new front wishbones

* temperature flap motor for the heater.

* various brakes/tyres

Still happy with the way it drives. Holding out for 200K...

I notice all the high milage cars mentioned so far are diesels , any petrol cars with over 100K on them? I've still got a long way to go , mine will turn 34K tomorrow!

In my case a high annual mileage meant I got a diesel because of the saving in fuel costs. I think (although I haven't done the maths) that the extra costs of buying a diesel engine are more than offset by the fuel savings if you do lots of miles. I assume the same applies to some of the others...

My "TDI" is officially approaching about 90,000 miles, despite the "clocked" dashpod reading 34k. ;)

No serious problems, but just a few niggles that I can do without. :)

:thumbup: Good to hear. There's not much on mine except the chassis that's actually done the full 90k now. :o The suspension, hubs, engine, box, shafts, wheels, brakes, electrics, some bodywork, as all been modded. :o

56k on the clocks now, 50k service will happen Tuesday :o - after convincing the dealership it really WAS just an oil/filter job the price came down to 95 quid which considering the last quote (double that) is more along the lines I'd expect to pay.

Also I may have to use that dealer for a warranty job on a leaking cooling system, so it's only fair to give them an easy earner first :)

the leaking cooling system is apparently a fault with remapped cars due to extra pressure on the pump apparently.

wonder how many miles my 2.0 would go on for? its hit about 61k now....clocked up over 20k this year since i got it last december!!!

25k in a year, pah.

Mine did 38k in 17 months when I got rid.

WW - Your dealer will be bloody generous to sort a coolant problem on a tuned car like yours! Good luck though. Either way, I'm sure it wont be a big job. :thumbup:

Not expecting the dealer to sort it out for free, would however like them to point out the bits that are likely to be at fault.

I switched to the dealer for this service mainly as unlike the other one nearby I won't get charged 235 quid for oil/filter including some stuff that shouldn't have been done at all (at 10k after 3 months...).

Having been to the VW dealership where Ross works for the 40k service, I know the annual service can be done for a reasonable price, which btw was lower then the 10k oil/filter at my original Skoda dealer :confused:

Either way I don't expect the coolant related problem to be a warranty job, as you say it wouldn't be fair to expect that :) On top of that, I'm so close to 60k now that I'm not expecting much there anyway.

The 60k service is likely to be done at a tuner again, so I can get a metal-impeller-pump rather than the plastic one when they change cambelt et al.

Another job is to get my windscreen replaced at some stage, the crack hasn't spread any further but I am guestimating it would fail an MOT - luckily I've got a while left before that's due :)
