If you're very, very lucky you may be with an insurer who a) already covers you for one or two track days a year, or will be prepared to cover you for an additional premium. Otherwise you can purchase track day cover separately, but to be honest most people don't bother - the cost is prohibitive and the cover fairly poor. Most people try to drive within their limits so as not to damage their cars or themselves, and bear any risk that may occur.

Mrs Spinndrift has lost some of her bottle after seeing the pics from Saturday.

1. It is unlikely (at least for the morning) that she will be on track at the same time as Paul, Si or Me as the at least the morning will be run in sessions (Novice, Inter, Advanced) so she would be in a group with others who haven't been on track before.

2. There are intructors there who will be able to help her and any other novices out.

3. The marshalls will be on the lookout for people driving agressively and will more than likely give one warning and then ban them for re-offending.

4. No one wants to crash their car, either into someone else or a static object, so will try to avoid body contact.

Failing that, if she is uncertain about driving the all powerful Octy, she could always borrow your Fabia :p

I think the majority of peeps going along will be "track virgins" so Mrs S. will be in good company.

Des will be sending out forms (I think) via email or PM to those who register to go. This will include somewhere to rate your experience level.

We may well end up with 2 novice groups and 1 inter/experienced group.

The other thing is, we will get some stickers made up (dunno, yellow square?) for novices to stick in their back windows so if we do run mixed sessions (open pit) in the afternoon they will be easilly identifiable to other drivers.

IIRC they are in the price, although if not it might be 20 pounds for 20 minutes or thereabouts, but I'm 99% sure they are in the price.

was talking with Col on the long trip home in Chassis 2 (been thinking on renaming them Challenger, Columbia and Dsicovery) we could get the now famous Brisky sunstrips made up in a suitable bright colour for all inter/experts so that when they are closing on newbies the newbies are as aware of whats coming as they can be....

would also be a way of advertising ourselves for anyone wanting hotlaps...?

I think you'd realise if you were being caught by one of the experienced drivers.

However, I think something on the back of the car is a better idea, so that when you catch someone you will know that

a) they are a novice and may do the unexpected

they are experienced and will be watching their mirrors/ will move where you think they will move.

Just a suggestion for identification of driver "skill"...which will also by happy coincedence save me (& ColinD) the hassle of removing / blurring numberplates from the photos..

How about different coloured tapes covering the plates? It has to be the most obvious area of the car to look at, after all ?
