Oil Consumption In Fabia vRS Diesel

Featured Replies

I know I keep saying this but totally chuffed with my Fabia vRS. However eight weeks into owning the beauty I thought I would check the oil level.

The level came upto two thirds full level.

The car has just done over 2,500 miles.

I was not expecting the level to move because it is a new car. This is my first time owning a diesel. Is this normal or is something wrong with it?

Secondly I have looked in the manual (it is crap) about what sort of oil to use for topping up. Three oils are listed. Which do I use pls? You may have gathered that I am NOT a mechanic.

Any help appreciated

Bumface:)

Rest assured this is not unusual all Vrs Fabia will use oil until approx 10k just top up with oil.

The oil you use is very specific and if you look on the Fabia forum you will find a compreshensive list, alternatively, go down to your friendly Skoda, VW, Audi or Seat garage for a 1 litre top up bottle. Dont overfil just go to the top of the hatched area on your dipstick.

Hope this helps

There will be doubt someone to come along and give you more details

Thanks

Tony

Oil consumption improves dramatically after approx 10k miles, (as stated), but it's hardly bad even from new. Oil spec for the 1.9TDi is VW 505 01 only. Your local Audi/VW/Skoda/SEAT dealers all sell in 1 Ltrs. Esso do an oil, (surprisingly called Esso 505 01), in 1 litre bottles but don't sell it retail. You have to buy a 16 x 1 ltr carton from your local Esso distributor. No. I have no idea what's behind that silly bit of marketing, er...............non-marketing, actually.

Quite Normal For First 10k Miles. Should Check It Weekly Though, use Proper Vw Oil.

I Found Cheaper From Vw Than Skoda

First 2k it'll probably use quite a lot. Mine's used none since then though

Check it weekly as a minimum until the first service.

Same experience here, it used about 1.5 liters up to the first (10k) service, after that it has not used any in my case.

Just checked my oil this morning - 1,111 miles on the clock of my new VRS - it was right at the bottom of the normal range on the dipstick - so I will top it up this evening. I accept this as normal for PD diesel engine but I will be checking every 1000 miles to be safe.

My ex-PD100 ran down to the same point on the dipstick for the 10000 & 20000 service and about halfway for the 30000 service.

I used just over a litre before the first service in my vRS, and about half a litre after the second. After that it didn't use anything more than a few ml. I didnt have to top it up before the 3rd service.

My Elegance has used approx .5 litre in 500 miles (very short urban journeys).

Halfords do 5W/40 fully Synthetic Diesel Oil VW505.01 - which specifies on the 1 litre bottle it is suitable for VW/Audi/SEAT/Skoda diesel cars fitted with the VW "Pumpe Duse" PD engines.

item code 294488 hope this helps.

What about oil consumption on high milers? Mines just done 52k or 53 (can't remember) and last friday I checked the oil before heading to Glasgow and it was below the middle of the indented bit, I planned to get some at a garage and top it up. I forgot all about it until yesterday when I checked it again and it was down to barely covering the dipstick.

I filled it up straight away and there are no signs of a leak or any being burned so a bit concerned why its used quite a bit of oil in a week.

Anyone else had this?

My high-miler Fabia TDI didn't use any oil between services as far as I could tell, so best to keep an eye on yours and if the level goes down again, get it checked out :D

I've not had such a dramatic drop (it wasn't parked on a slight slope and/or warm when you did one or other of the readings, was it?), but mine's approaching 50k, and I usually reckon on needing to add between 500 and 750ml between services. That's more than my Renault needed, but less than the Citroen I had before that. I don't think it's that bad - the fact that the oil in a diesel engine turns black pretty much straightaway shows that it's affected by the high operating temperatures - I imagine a certain amount of loss will due to this degradation. Anyway, the long and short of it is that I usually reckon on needing to top up from time to time, but I don't think it's a major issue...

I buy 5 litres for an oil change: 4.3 litres goes in the sump and the remaining 700 ml is enough for the topups over the next 10K miles.

I've done 1,500 on my new SE, maybe I should check the oil !

Ill be honest, my 55 plate VRS has used no oil in 47000 miles.

Not a drop has been needed to top up.

There is also a sticky at the top of the forum detailing what oil you need in a PD.

What is the relation to how much you need to top up to the level on the dip stick?

For example:

half way between low and full needs 0.5 ltr of oil.

Sorry I havent got the book (or the car yet) to work out what the capacity is and work it out for my self.

I wonder if this could be down to driving style as none of my diesels ever use oil between services either... Did you follow the Skoda running in procedure or just drive it normally from day 1?

Chris

Maybe??

Surely you check the oil level/coolant/tyre pressure every week as a matter of course?

I've never checked the oil or coolant on either of the other 2 cars I've used (though they were not new) , and there were no problems. Would check the tyre pressures before long journeys and every so often in between.

Halfords synthetic oil 5w40 is on a special offer at the moment, a 3rd off,

Of course:rolleyes:

Driven harder than a hard thing for 47k, along with 3 track days. Engine is now in it's prime, great rev range, smooth and plenty of power.

interesting to note this again... I'll add my bit...

driven like normal from new, no "running in" and I did 80k in my vRS in two years , and never had to put a drop of oil in it!

3700 miles in the GP and checked the oil just before the BBQ meet, and still at the top... no top up needed... the fiat has been driven "normally" from new too...

me see's a pattern comming here....

well, tonto, I can calm you down by telling you that I checked the oil this morning, and I'd say it was 3/4 of the way up the dent.

Maybe you're onto something - I took time to run mine in, and it now uses oil at enough of a rate that it'll need topping-up between services. I've not grannied it since I stopped running it in, though!

Mine's used about about half a litre in 3.5k since it's first service at 8k. I have no idea how gently it was run in though...
