Ice warning / ice warner - Audible?

Featured Replies

Quick question hopefully.

I get the low temp/warning on the dash of my 03 Octy elegance (ie the display switches over to show the temperature, and a snowflake symbol), but I no longer get the audible warning.

I say no longer, because I'm, almost certain I used to get it, but now it just switches over - and i don't neccessarily notice it. I do get the audible beeps for low fuel, low screenwash and no seatbelt.

Can I have a show of hands please, of people with an octy who also get the audible ice warning in cold weather. Dealer has been trying to find the fault for a while, and has now said that there isn't an audible warning  on the octavia. I think I've gone mad :( I'm sure I used to get it!!!

Thanks

Wish I could get mine to turn off - it's annoying!

Sorry, can't help you on the Octy front though...

Steve

You are not alone!

I have had exactly the same thing happen with my Y reg 01 Octavia TDI

I have another odd thing occur, the door open warning light only works after either the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, or the 5a fuse (no 15 I think) to the instrument panel has been removed then put back. The light then works until the engine is started, after which it stops working again!

Also when I switch off the engine, all the door locks click as though locking/unlocking but they don't actually move. Is this a normal feature on MK 1 Octavia's?

My fabia dosnt beep either when i see the snow flake symbol.

My 05 Octy 2 beeps, I want to get the beep turned off as its frustrating when the temp is close to where the beep is.

Sometimes when I am out and the temp is approx 4c the car beeps every 10 mins or so as the temp rises and falls again.

I believe that you only get a warning indicator for the temp (4 degrees and below). The noise could be from the coolant level, which will sound when low (which happened to me the other day when it was cold, about 3 degrees and just needed a small 'top up')

My 2001 TDi estate does not beep when the snowflake symbol comes up that I am aware of, but normally when I get in the car and startup that will be the coldest point of the journey, so the beep might be lost with the seatbelt beeps etc.

iirc when you get the coolant level low beep there is a light that comes on the dash? Certainly that is the case for oil level low (I know as I have had that twice :( )

We need to get yours checked with VAG-COM then, compared with one that does beep! There's surely something somewhere that can be changed :rubchin:

My 2001 TDi estate does not beep when the snowflake symbol comes up

Neither does our 52 Fabia Estate yet my friends 2003 Fabia Estate does.

I'd like to add the beep if I can find out how via vagcom or whatever ? :D

I dont get a seatbelt beep either, not sure if im supposed to mind

i dont get the ice warning, but the lowest temp so far is 3.5, so not sure if it beeps at 0 or below.

Seat belt beeps fine.

Mine doesn't beep. for which I'm actually grateful, since I've had it switch above/below the snowflake signal (5.5C in mine) 5 times in a 20 minute drive.

Is it supposed to warn you for low washer fluid too?

Mine dosnt :S

Mine dosnt :S

My 2001 Octy does. it is really annoying when your getting low on fluid and drive down a road with gentle ups and downs as it keeps going off..... grrr!! But that said I have never run of out fluid in this car. It should warn for low coolant and brake fluid as well....!

Is it supposed to warn you for low washer fluid too?

Mine dosnt :S

No idea. I got it from Arnold with a full bottle in April, and it was refilled by Queensboro' at the service last month (front and rear screen, and headlight washers).

Is it supposed to warn you for low washer fluid too?

My '02 Ambiente doesn't. I think it might be that ones with headlight washers warn when the fluid's low, and ones without don't. Not sure about that though...

Mine's never beeped when the snowflake comes on.

Can't be certain beyond this, but there's certainly something that looks like a level sensor on the 5.3l washer bottle.

I have headlamp washers on my 2001 Elegance..... and it beeps for low fluid - I thought mine was 5.5litres of fluid.....

The 5.3l came from the bottle top surface.

My L & K 53 diesel bleeps when the snowflake light comes on at 4c.:):)

I wish my furby would beep when the screenwash was low :( However I can live without the ICE beep, as the fact its (what I call) "Nipple on weather" sort of gives the ice away :P I like the way it flashes on the computer though:thumbup:

No idea if my 2004 octy beeps , as the radio is always on too loud , but the visual warning of temp is good enough for me .

This is the answer i'm looking for !! Any more the same? Preferably on the Elegance !! I'm trying to get skoda to get it working again.

Just for the record because this thread seems to have grown to include all sorts of low fluid/alarms/noises etc, I get;

Low washer fluid

Low Fuel

Seat belt not on (6 pings)

and i'm sure i used to get a noise on low temperature (at the same time as the snowflake and temp are displayed.)

Don't know about low coolant or low brake fluid or anything else - i try to keep it maintained as much as poss

I noticed today on my way into work that the display had switched oved to temp, and had the snowflake symbol up - and it was showing 5 deg (might have been colder when it switched), but there was no beep.

2001 TDi Elegance estate

(yes: I get low fuel, low washer fluid, seltbelt, low brakefluid and low coolant as well!)

*edit*

Oh, and and low oil!

(I have tested low oil, brake fluid, coolant and fuel - my car drinks everything so it seems   )

Matt, that sounds like the behaviour on mine. Audible warning for low fuel and seatbelt, but never tested the others bar "snowflake/icing" (which doesn't audible).
