Currently I still own an Ibiza Cupra. I used to have those high wattage blubs in it and was following my brother back from somewhere at a distance. He saw this car gaining on him with glaring headlights like mine so he sped up thinking it was me...it turned out to be a traffic cop

With a growing family I'm looking at the Octavia vRS estate. My dog likes dressing up so he can put his hi-vis jacket on (yes, he has one!) and look like we're on official Police dog business

If you want to cut through traffic on the motorway quicker, why not position your car well in advance of the vehicle infront i.e if you're in lane 3, straddle lane 2 and 3 so that the car infront see's in his/her mirror that you're having a look down the middle and may well pull over to let you through. Try it it works. Although being in a marked car does help ;o)

Quite a few of them are retired police officers with years of experience doing a similar job.

The complete lack of blue lights or any police insignia also means they are not committing any offence, even the vehicle livery is designed to distinguish them from patrol cars.

Why do nearly all motorists slam on their anchors as they approach them on a motorway? Why do they sit on bridges over motorways? Why do they park on the raised laybys marked with signs for "Police Vehicles Only"? If I parked in one of these bays with flourescent stipes down the car I'd probaly get arrested. Their livery is not dissimilar to some police forces liveries. Whilst I understand what you are saying, they have not totally replaced the police on the motorways, and they are allowed to sit in the spaces marked for police only because they are carrying out duties alongside the police. Thats like saying that Community Support Officers can't go into a police station because they are not real police officers! If people are obeying the rules of the road and by the same token being law abiding then why should they have to slam on when they see them?

Obviously they are not sticking to the rules by the actions they are taking. The motorways are some of the safest roads in the country, its the people using them incorrectly that makes them dangerous, having more police on the road doesn't stop people who are hell bent on driving dangerously and without consideration for other road users, its the ME,ME,ME syndrome and the roads mine mentality.

People resent change and whilst I agree that there should be more police officers about it sadly comes down to budgets but the role of the police traffic officer has diversified into a roads policing role which not only encompasses road traffic offences but also has to target the use of vehicles in criminal activities such as transporting drugs, stolen goods, people smuggling and any number of other criminal uses that vehicles can be put to use for.

Police vehicles sit on flyovers for the purpose of observation and the ability to be able to react to an incident by being in a position to go to either side of the motorway simply by driving forward or turning round and going down the opposite slip road. The same applies to highway agency traffic officers.

It all comes down to the fact that if you've done nothing wrong why worry!

Police make me laugh and realy annoy me, I was parked at my local burger van the other day, and their was two traffic cops their eating their bacon roles, they came over and asked me all about my car as its obviusly not standard to look at, now thats no shock as alot of blokes do the same, however when they asked me my name i was like WTF **** off mate and asked their name, he told me his PC whatever and I said no full name he would not disclose, however he then accused me of being unfriendly so I challenged him as to why he whants to know my name when he is eating a bacon buttie, he would not answer, then I noticed his mate on his radio giving my reg plate in, these guys are on a break FFS and im inocently eating my burger, typical beef head copper aswell, shaved head to make himself look more imposing, luckily being an Ex Para im not botherd but relise why he acts and carrys himself as he did, it frustrates the hell out of me how they are on a break and try and covertly tap me up it realy winds me up, cops do a tough job that I for one declined the chance to do when I left the services, so why make your job harder by being a prat, luckily my best mate who is also ex services did join the force so I know all about it from him, he hates half the officers he works with because they think they are better or/and above the normal guys, I myself have know issues as i dont break the law much more then they do and am fully legal but FFS these individuels in the force are a bad name on the majority of the force whome are realy nice down to earth peeps like my best mate.

Rant over however, if you wish to impersonate or try to be an under cover car I would say #1 your a pratt and #2 your asking for trouble not just from the law but from people whome realy dont like the law.

Admittedly they should have had the decency to stop eating when they were talking to you but they were probably asking questions to see how much you knew about the car and then your name and a check on your reg to see if you were who you said you were and that you actually owned the motor and hadn't nicked it. You'd be pretty ****ed off if someone nicked your motor and they ignored it or spoke to them and never bothered.

Oh and if you are asked to provide your details by a police officer it is an offence not to provide them.

Finally in the spirit of inter service rivalry the Para's are nothing without the RAF to get them in the air to jump in the first place.:rofl:
