My Fabia VRS 1/4 Mile

Featured Replies

yeah been counting some and should be around 200bhp according to the stick... so i guess the turbo lives on overtime. (anyone know of a good uppgrade?)

Ps. thanks for putting the pic there :)

ohh btw the 14.4 run is on a airstrip and only lightly prepped... not close to a real dragstrip like Santa pod.

i would say it would be jasons or lukes, jasons is the more powerful at 260bhp,and is now equipped with a peloquin lsd,as his main problem was traction i would think he will be down in the 13's on a good day, we will see when the summer comes:thumbup:

Ok lets hope my brother gets all his plan in motion before midsummer cuz thats when the main event for him this summer and its on the track whit best prepp that is reasonably close.

whats he going to be running power wise?

Launching on that concrete is ideal, especially with fresh rubber laid down by others. Do I see he's also running 16" steels with slick tyres on? That will really help with launching. 14.4 is a very good time indeed. I've always had traction issues (and a lack of practise) so have only done a 15 flat, but with a 96mph closing speed (i.e as fast, if not a bit quicker than the 150 km/h speed in the above timeslip.) Good going though!

yeah its ideal if its well prepped for dragracing but this was a active airfield = only lightly prepped = slippery as hell wheelspin on firstgear and too much grip for 2nd gear start. Yeah its 16" ET Drag slicks.

One good thing to start to do is get a LSD. When i made a few runs on another track i noticed the the wheels took turn on loosing traction even on et drag and a well prepped dragstrip.

Power wise he intends to mount a FMIC, a PD160 intake, a complete stainless exhaust and maybe a new clutch since this one is living on over time... same goes for the turbo.

Since my last drag runs I have fitted a mich better clutch, and a peloquin, so it all should really help during 2008. :) I've never used slick tyres though - something I perhaps should invest in? :)

i bet slicks would make the world of difference jase, low 13's at least now you have the diff,i bet my standard car will run the re map boys down once the clutch and diff go in

yeah slicks does matter... at our first race we actualy had 3 sets of tires... 1 pair of standard low profile 17", 1 pair of 16" Toyo r888 and a pair of slicks just to see how it would make on each set of tires...

1 round standard 17" low profile result 15.4

2 round toyo 16" r888 result just over 15s

3 round 16" ET drag slicks we had a small problem they actualy drag the car out of the box before they got realy sticky ( had the 17" on the rear ) anyway that was 14.7x

anyway we actualy had to put the toyo tires on the rear to hold the car in the box long enough to get them atleast somewhat warm... (still drags it out...) and the best time is from the race where the pics are taken and if go to the link you will see that they barely are smoking...

Oil burners are never going to be good at 1/4 mile because of getting them to launch too much torque spins the wheels and the fact that most oil burners have a very low 1st gear i still think 1st on a vrs should be between 1st and 2nd ish and the rest spaced acordingly. But the fact that is has reasonable 1/4 mile times shows how good it is because it catches up once traction is available. On the move my vrs is as quick as my wifes Gti i would even say it has the edge up too 100 thats from a rolling start though lol.

I had a cooper s for a few hours the power is disapointing the owner admited it after trying the vrs after,it is a nice car though but just not enough ilusion of power to be fun for me.

But it's not the power that is disappointing, it's the lack of torque. This is the main advantage of a diesel in that it feels fast which can be more rewarding than being fast but not feeling it and taking a much higher speed to get the same excitement. For example, my Mondeo has 30lb/ft more torque than my Scooby. I'm under no illusions which is the faster of the two, but the Mondeo captures the same shove in the back feeling under acceleration, as well as doing twice the mpg!

Chris

You could not of said it better Scoobychris. I have one of them g-force thingy`s and the vrs pulls more g`s than any other car iv tested ,alot more than the gti its just that the gti pulls that g-force for longer ,but as for max g`s which is what you feel under acceleration the vrs is hard to beat thats y its fun it feels fast as do all cars with lots of torque. The maximum acceleration is greater than type r focus rs and other cars like that so it feels faster ,them other cars iv mentioned have a lover maximum accelereration but can hold that acceleration in that gear for longer,am i making sence lol.i know what i mean hahah

Hey, can we bet on Briskoda as far as favourites in the 300bhp and 1/4 mile time competition???

hmmm dont know about what you think is fast on 1/4 mile but how about this?

or this one

or this?

this just by searching for a few sec on youtube

PS and btw a 6 sec diesel aint fast???

here you go.

That thing smokes worse than my vrs lol

I reckon the cage mod and PD160 intake should sort that

I can imagine it being bloody quick with the LSD and that power and torque. But low 13's I seriously doubt.. My guess would be high 13's tops. Unless it's been seriously stripped, or can do a 1.5 60ft time.. lol

i'm just guessing tbh, lukes ran a 14.2,on road tyres with no lsd,i think jason's on a set of slicks will be under that,i am aiming for 300bhp and a low 13 sec quarter,my phase one mods are in my posetion and waiting to be fitted, well now lukes car has vanished someone has to keep the mongrel on its toes;)

I'm assuming 300bhp aint going to be cheap. But fair play to ya mate..

I'm going for over 300bhp too. But i'm going the easy route and changing my car.. lol. Then the 13's will be cracked easily.. lol

its been expensive allready and its only at 155 at the mo,mind you i havn't touched the engine.........yet:D

well now lukes car has vanished someone has to keep the mongrel on its toes;)

Regarding the jabbasport vRS, a mate of mate has bought it and i regularly see it in St Helens. Its looks awesome in the flesh and boy does it fly:D He's pushed m3's down the linkway.

Just thought i'd let you guys know.
