Skoda MFD3 Trinax - My thoughts **Warning Lots of Pictures**

Featured Replies

will the MFD3 give you the nice little picture for the parking sensors like the stream does?

In a word, no. I think the philosophy for the MFD3 is based on reversing cameras.

I think I've posted the part number in the thread somewhere. Be prepared to advertise a kidney on eBay though.

I have a Skoda branded RNS510 unit which is 1Z0 035 680 A and I have the Skoda branded Phone unit which is 1Z0 035 729.

Cheers got the details.

Who needs two kidneys anyway?

I have Vag-Com and have done a few BT kits and MFD2's etc (including my own) and am in Nottingham all week from Monday 14th April if that is any use to you.

Fluff'

Thanks for the offer, but I've just had first notification of delivery date on my car and it won't be here until 3rd June :(

Do you have an SDHC Ian?

I do now.

Not supported, just standard SD max. 2 GB.

At least that is what my instruction book says...

You and Skoda are correct. I bought a 4GB SDHC card just to try and it fails to recognise it. I was then going to format it as FAT 16 but that is not an option.

Nevermind it works in my camera, well it does now after a firmware update.

Perhaps sometime in the future.

what would be the effect of installing the unit without access to a vag-com interface?

In general I'd say it would be ok but maybe not optimum. It depends what it was coded for previously if anything.

I've currently got the stream headunit, at some point id like to upgrade, all i was thinking, would it be a waste of time installing it till i got access to vag-com

im assuming the bluetooth hands free kit is a bit pointless with out some vag-com tweaking too?

Plenty of us around with Vag-Com mate, I will code it free to freedom members and I do travel over to Sheffield for a few days most months with work :D

No problem, give me a shout when you are ready, I have relatives in Nottingham and do pop over every now and again with the kids.

fair enough, i was looking at joining freedom anyway as i've found a lot of useful stuff on here, only fair to give something back.

I will most likely take you up on your offer then, where are you based normally? I dont mind travelling

Added an interesting new category of POI's to the RNS510 (MFD3/Columbus) :)

If I say that ''snelheid' is speed in Dutch, and control, well no need to translate there....;)

Yes it was safe to make a photo on the motorway, as you can see I was in a traffic jam and not going anywhere

BTW, my car is in for it's first service today. Got a Jetta 1.6 FSI as a loaner today, when pulling up onto the motorway it felt as somebody stole the engine...

Funny how quickly you get used to grunt of a remapped 2.0 TFSI engine

Did you edit the POI's using the methods described for the BMW systems? I have been looking into this myself.

Yep, and the tips regarding the specifics of the RNS510 data structure and files as posted on the vwnavi board.

Could you give me more information (threads treating this fact) about how to edit POI's for MFD3. Thanks Bolle

Thanks madfiddler

I'm going to check it

Yes you'd need a TV tuner box. It isn't all inside the RNS510.

stu, is there a plug n play option for the rns510 ?

I am sure there is but it's not something I've yet looked into.

ok, cheers

  • 2 weeks later...

Hey Bolle you are late :)

I posted this already in the Octy II section :)

thanks, didn't look there as I'm not a Skoda owner.

Was nosing around a bit, sitting at home with a good cold, so I thought let's share the info...

Hehe no problem.

New build coming soon with the option to create a new group.

Yes, you need TVtuner box from VW Touareg 7L6 919148 (only this p|n works with RNS touchscreen), TVtuner cable and TV antennas. And of course, programming with VAGCOM or VAS. I helped to my friend to retrofit it and it works fine.

The only one problem - retail price for 7L6919148 is terrible (around 1500 euro)
