L&K Comfort and 1.8 tfsi questions

Featured Replies

After moving to Honda earlier this yr (and hating most of it) am thinking of making the move back to Skoda ASAP.

Thinking about the Octavia L&K with the 1.8tfsi engine, so looking for any info I can get on each of these. There must be a few out there who own an L&K - how do they find it for comfort? Seats look good in pictures but cant get to see a car in the flesh so cant try them out :(

And the 1.8, who has driven / has 1. Does it have enough punch? Relaxed on motorway / longer runs? Any idea of RPM in 6th at say 70mph?

Looking for any and all info I can get on these so please let me know what ye know

Cheers

Bryan

Seen a few L&K, lovely cars - really nicely spec'd.

Would imagine the 1.8 to be a nice engine too.

Seats are certainly comfortable. Driver's seat has electric adjustment with 3 memory positions. You can even attribute a seating position to a key fob so that when you open the door the seat moves into the correct position for you. Very useful if the car is used by more than one driver - a complete waste of money for me as I am the only driver!

My 2006 2.0 FSI L&K has electrically heated front seats, I think new ones have heated rear seats as well. IMHO this is a fairly useless gimmick. I have never used it until last week when I discovered that it doesn't work! :( However my wife thinks it is wonderful, and frequently uses it on the passenger seat.

what didn't you like with the honda? always interested to hear from people who've been in and out of a skoda/other brand?

The L&K drivers seat has better adjustment than the non electric type. The base of the seat can be adjusted up and down at the front and back giving lots of scope to get it just right. The lumbar support has electrical adjustment too, it will move inwards and outwards like the standard support but it can also motor up and down about 6 or so inches.

The seats also have anti whiplash head rests as an added safety feature.

The UK Feb 2007> L&K gets heated front seats but no heated rear seats, despite this the spec is excellent.

If nothing else get it for the LED lit door handles - uber cool :D

Not sure if you've checked here yet:

The latest Octavia brochure with the 1.8 TFSI engine data (the car is in fact badged TSI ;)) :http://www.skoda.co.uk/skoda3g/content/showroom/new_octavia_quickv1.pdf

The seperate L&K brochure with more specific info on the model: http://new.skoda-auto.com/SiteCollectionDocuments/Superb/Superb_OctaviaLK_Catalogue_ENG_0507.pdf

With regards to the spec. As you are in Ireland it may be different, not 100% on that.

To quote the Skoda.ie site:

Like the Octavia the Octavia Combi offers a broad range of versions namely the Classic, Ambiente & Elegance. The Octavia Combi is now available in a 4X4 TDI version for the first time ever. A more powerful Octavia Combi 4X4 2.0 FSI 150bhp petrol will also be added to the range at a later date.

The shockwave in front of the cutting edge there

Agree with what has been said about the L&K. Just the headlines to impress friends is good enough: xenons, leather seats (heated in front with drivers electric), auto lights and wipers, auto dim rear view mirror, rear parking sensors, illuminated door handles, 6 cd changer with MP3 playback, individual climate control. cruise control, front armrest, rear sunblind and nets in boot, lovely alloy wheels, chrome exhaust, coming/leaving home lights that flick on in the dark when you unlock the car (very good for car park status raising!), audio controls on the steering wheel...

Then you can add in the engine, DSG gearbox......

Once installed in the seats I don't have any problems with being there for a few hours with the good stereo on.

My only niggle (apart from the dealer and Skoda UK who in my case are both pants) is the diesel engine/DSG is a bit on/off at times if you don't watch what you are doing. But if you are going for petrol that won't be an issue.

Good luck!

Wanted to enjoy the Civic big time, love the look of it, the fighter jet style dash, all the toys I was getting. Car I test drove was an ES on 16in wheels with 50 or 55 ratio tyres, felt quite smooth. Car I bought was an EX Sport with 17 / 45's on lowered suspension and it crashes over everything rougher than a pool table.

It has built in bluetooth fone connection and voice control for most functions, but it does not seem to understand the version of English we speak here in Cork, total pants system.

Built in Sat-Nav, turned out to be way out of date on its mapping.

Could not get fully comfortable on longer drives due to the steering not having enough reach adj, had to sit nearer the dash than I liked forcing legs to be bent.

To high gearing ratios that had the engine in the dead zone in 2nd gear on most tightish corners.

And the rattles, how the car likes to rattle :thumbdwn:

A few other things but I guess this gives an idea of why I am looking to change so quickly.

L&K is certainly very comfortable. I have back and left leg problems and have had no trouble getting comfortable on long trips. I have the DSG pdi diesel because of leg problem; it replaced a 150bhp 1.8fsi manual. I much prefer the diesel to the fsi because of the power delivery. One downside is the amount of road noise and harshness on coarse surfaces compared to the fsi. This is probably caused by the lower profile tyres and/or make of tyre.

Mine came with the standard 17" alloys along with Bridgestone tyres and they are ****E .

Noisy as hell, wear out quickly and rubbish grip in the wet and dry.

I don't even like the look of them :thumbdwn:

Your lucky, I got the pre April L&K with 16" Vega's with Dunlop Sports on them...they were really pants!

Hence the 18" Zeniths on! Much better look on the car!

There were still some of the other L&K's in stock when mine was ordered, that's why I opted for sunset glass to force a factory build

I haven't forgotten about the colour coded side strip pics either ;)

I'll do them tomorrow but the car will be filthy as I still haven't cleaned it :thumbdwn:

Are all Octys on 17's noisy? Anyone know anything about the gearing - RPM at 70mph? Anyone driver the 1.8tfsi?

mines fine and quiet on 17's, you just need good tyres and not the ones skoda sell the car with. There are a few threads on here but several get good press inc toyo t1s, michellin pilot primacys, falken 452 and goodyear f1 gsd3's which i have.

That's similar to what I did, I added ESP to get a factory order...however I just didn't want a stock one! Annoying thing was I got the car in Jan, then I went away on holiday for a few weeks but my folks went away for a few months. So could have lasted without a car till April...Which meant I could have got a new one

Look forward to piccies

To be honest my 18" are slightly noisier to the 16". I put it down to the tyres! So I wouldn't worry about the noise as that will change once you change your rubber. :)

Why don't you go for a RS Bryan?

Mine is quite economical and relaxed on a trip and its beeen mildly fettled.

Click here for details of mine. It is a MY07, with the alacantra seats, cos the grey leather was not too nice.

Seats are very comfy, but quite narrow, so I took a bit of time getting used to them. Wouldn't change them now though. Never got the memory linked to the key though:mad:

The whole car is just filled with niceities, like the break that stays on a bit after you take you're foot off the pedal, to make hill starts easier. Build quality is fab too.

Phil

Never got the memory linked to the key though:mad:

Yeah, me neither. I tried when I first got the car, it never worked so I gave up. I really must get outside one day wiht the manual and try again. It could be broken but I doubt it. Unless there is a VAGCOM setting that allows it to be turned off and it has been....

The RS costs that bit more in every way, to buy, insure, run. And to add some of the standard kit on the L&K to the RS drives the price up even more. After the hit I am having to take on the Civic - every penny counts now :thumbdwn:

I will be sticking with the leather because they should not feel as narrow or shaped as the alcantra option,(or am I wrong there) plus think the cabin might be a bit dark with them also

.

Yea, theres a nice red one for sale in Cork, one of the lads on here :)

Are you thinking on a Brand New L&K, I'd say there hard to find 2nd hand.

mildly fettled.

You know me Colm, I only ever buy new

Didn't think L+K's were available in Ireland, have only seen 3 spec levels on the Skoda website and they are not on their price list.

I have to disagree about the seat colouring, the light leather is a rally nice colour and not as hard to keep clean as I would have expected. IMHO the alternative option makes the cabin far too dark.

A few pics of my wagon for comarison :)
