I really do hope all turns out well for you both :)

Yep, best of luck, I suspect it'll be longer than the next few days to get a satisfactory resolution, probably next few weeks if not months!

Had mine in January and I'm still not satisfied with the outcome.

Things get **** when the drive is uninsured or doesn't stop so fingers crossed for you.

On the claiming front, I agree that I hate it, but if I hadn't claimed I would have been out of pocket for the physio etc that was required.

Best of luck.

I skipped a lot. I hope that "er indoors" is ok.

Ref the car, at that age you may be entitled to a full replacement; check the policy properly.

Cheers everyone, the support is appreciated :)

Well, the Skoda was taken away on an OnTime low loader and was replaced by a shiny 57 plate Audi A4 2.0TDI so not all bad :D

The Octavia is off to a Skoda approved accident repair centre - Rivervale Skoda they also specialise in Mercedes Benz and Porsche accident repairs so the vRS is in good company :P

Now it's a case of sit and wait for the assessment of the Octavia.

In the meantime i'll be trawling through the small print about a <12 month replacement car.

SWMBO took the Audi out this evening (to the vets - the cat has taken a knock :() and she wasn't too happy behind the wheel. The solicitors have been unleashed!!

I hope everything works out in the end. I also hope the Cat recovers quickly :)

Get your wife to see a physio and get a lumbar cushion if needed. It helped me massivly.

If you are in my neck of the woods I have one she could try before spending money out.

Other thing is to make sure she keeps at the driving even if just now and again. I certainly still have a few issues with cars coming too close to mine after what happened to me.

Best of luck with the car and your wife recovering.

If the guy isn't insure I'm happy to help in any Posse related requirements

Some good info there. I've told SWMBO she needs to keep driving the car albeit for short periods.

I'm sure we have a lumbar support cushion in the house somewhere, i'll go off and find it in a minute. She wasn't happy when a transit came looming up behind and that's to be expected, I get hacked off at that anyway.

I can understand that - Chrissi had her accident best part of a year ago and she's still extremely nervous.

And to think SWMBO's parents thought my idea of a bigger car was a bad one, her previous car was a Nissan Micra dCi. Good car in it's own right but not big enough in my opinion.

And to think I opted for those 'useless' active head rests

We can kind of appreciate the appeal of the 'school run mum' giant 4x4's now

And i've sifted through the insurance T's and C's and there is a total replacement option if the car is written off and less than 12 months old.

And the GAP insurance co. have been fantastic so far.

Sorry to go a little of topic but how is the cat?

The cat is fine thanks, he went to the vets and was given a painkilling injection along with a 5 day course of antibiotics, luckily in liquid form as it would be easier to give tablets to a velociraptor! :D

The vet doesn't know how he got injured but I think he might have got into a tangle with a fix or similar.

He has a fairly deep cut on his left leg and a big bruise on his right leg but no breaks or fractures. He is currently sleeping it all off upstairs.

Just for you :)

Awww bless him, I am glad he is ok :)

Sorry to hear about this matey :( its a real ****ter when stuff like this happens.

AS for the better half being a bit nervous behind the wheel, i was when i had my accident in feb of this year, only difference was mine was my fault.

Brief description, on the motorway going way too fast, van pulled into my lane and i couldnt stop in time, she was doing about 55 and i think the impact was about 80mph for me :S, anyways, airbags went off and the car skidded across 3 lanes of traffic and down the embankment.I was very very shuck up by the accident, my car at the time was a hybrid turbo fr tdi ibiza, and i didnt want another fast car, i was very very nervous driving, to the point where i didnt drive for about 2 weeks.

I dont drive as fast as i did back then, i had a near miss that night so im lucky to still be here. Im sure given time your partener will get her confidence back whilst behind the wheel.

Best wishes to the claim going through quickly and peacefully and i hope you get a nice new shiney car soon :D Oh and GAP insurance is a god send, i was lucky to have it and got 3.5k back on it which was great :D

If her confidence is really knocked, the IAM offer a DriveCheck which may help. I've no personal experience of it, although a chap I know on another forum runs them in the Bristol area and I'm sure would happily field any questions. Unlike a driving lesson, it would be done in her own car so she wouldn't have the stigma of being a learner again....

Chris

I can't help with finding one anywhere like Craggy Island, ;) but I've known a few instructors at small local schools who were happy to offer, remedial, confidence-building, "PassPlus" and the like type courses in pupil's own vehicles.

A small update:

Since the accident the good lady wife has been out in the car every day so far. She has been into Worthing town centre for a bit of traffic action and out for a faster drive along the A27 as well as an increasing amount of night driving.

I think she is getting her confidence back now but only time will tell. I might consider some of the suggested options if the need arises.

No news on the car so far but that's to be expected, a detailed claims form arrived in the post which has been scrutinised, filled in and promptly returned.

Thanks again for the help and advice to date, I will update this thread as soon as we hear any news :)

Oh, and the cat appers to be back to normal as in his appetite has returned and is once again keeping my local Pets At Home in business

Glad to hear things are progressing :)

Steve

My confidence was knocked when I wrote my Astra off and when my skoda got nudged earlier this year by a foreign Truck.

The best way to regain confidence is wait until the initial shock has gone and then drive again.

But you do find youself being more observant and careful.

at the risk of sounding a sexist pig,i am not btw,and from the small cross section of people that have been involved in serius accidents, that i know, blokes seem to recover thier confidence quicker than women, and to add a little balence(and so i don't get flamed)it may have somthing to do with there over inflated opinion of there own driving.

hope all is back to normal soon:thumbup:

What's your preferred option? Do you want the car back?

Hope cat is OK. Tell SWMBO to stick at driving, just a little at a time, and she'll get confidence back.

To be honest I am not sure whether I want the car back or not, if it's repaired it will need to be a VERY high standard for it to be accepted, I want to be able to look over the car and see absolutely no signs of repair whatsoever, the car is after all only 4 months old and was immaculate (SWMBO is well versed in the 2 bucket method these days )

I've never had a car back after a bang where I can't see signs of repair.

The cat is fine and eating like a horse once again

SWMBO is continuing with the driving and seems ok with it all.

We are now in that period where it goes quiet for a bit while they assess the damage. A phone call on Monday will gee them up hopefully.

If it's any help, when my A3 got repaired by an approved bodyshop, the only way you could tell was that the new paint was too shiny- the car was 6 years old.
