RNS510 Firmware query

Featured Replies

How long did you leave it at 14%?

Quite a few people have reported the same issue but I suspect they just didn't leave it long enough.

Mine paused there for quite a while (at least 10 mins), but I left it to get on at it did run through to a successful instal.

I left it running and it jumps to 14% then 100% and gives the SWL error.

  • The way the firmware work are (they are in order of release ignore the no's as a higher no. doesn't necessarily mean a newer firmware) 1004 - Original Firmware 1024 0904 - From here down is A &a

  • Skoda has more than one revision D equivalent: 1Z0 035 680 A - hardware C3/C4A which is called revision A. Latest official firmware is 1024, unofficial - 2684, modified - 3814 3T0 035 680 - hardware

  • Yes they do work. I got a cheaper deal with vw on updating mine than Skoda offered me!!

Where did you download it from?

Did you burn it at a slow speed? I've found 4x works first time on my PC and I use quite cheap CD's.

I use CDBurner XP (on Win XP) and seem to be OK with that.

Used a link from mygti website - which pulled it down from Rapidshare. The drive on my Laptop want to use a minimum speed of x10 to burn it (Dell D630) it verifies the burn OK too.

It was from here https://rapidshare.com/files/1566911081/FW_4020_70_20_5.ISO

This is the full version info from before I tried the update :-

Not sure you had that much to gain from the upgrade to 4024, given you were already on 3974. There is a fix at the bottom of this page which might help restore things: http://www.my-gti.co...and-information.

Adam

There are some improvements in 4024 and as I'm in IT I need the latest Firmware on there - LOL.

Would like to crack what the issue is.

Unfortunately that recovery disk wants you to sign up to a text service to enable download, which I don't want to risk.

Hi Paul,

The original 4020 download that I tried simply wouldn't work. Quite a few people seemed to have problems with it on the my-gti.com forum. But I found a download of a modified version which worked perfectly first time. The modified version simply assigns more space on the HDD for music than the original file. One user mentioned that this might become an issue if the maps DVD continue to grow in size, but this firmware gives you about 5.7GB for maps and the V8 map DVD is about 4.5GB, so the maps would have to grow a lot before this becomes an issue. But, if it ever does become an issue, I guess we can always load a new firmware at that point.

The link for the modified 4020 is here: https://docs.google....6OEE/edit?pli=1

Discussion about 4020 (problems and link to modified firmware are here: http://www.my-gti.co...page-1#comments

I haven't noticed any major difference with 4024 to be honest, but like you I always want the latest firmware running!

Cheers,

Declan.

I used the second link in the My GTI website, burned at 4x on to cheap CD and, apart from stalking at 14% for over 10 minutes, all worked first time.

I've found the 4xxx firmware noticeably faster to enter postcodes and also has more options for searching on the nav.

However the compass is the same as it always been!

Thanks folks will give those a go.

Have just burnt the original 4020 I was using on a blank DVD-R to see if it prefers that.

Will download the modified version and try that too.

The latest V8 Maps that I found is 5GB in size.

Will give it all ago, would be useful to find a location for the recovery CD that isn't on DepositFiles.

PM sent regarding recovery file.

I can't remember where I got the firmware but mine is specifically for an older A revision unit. I do know the partitions with my firmware are in the ratio 70% music, 25% maps and 5% POIs, which are slightly different from those found by Declan, but this worked fine for me.

Adam

I used Declan's links to upgrade mine (MY2009) and it worked flawlessly

Phew managed to sort it out using my second copy of that modified software burnt onto a TDK CDR.

Fun that was not - also needed a reset and then re-coding in VCDS as it set itself using the VW premium sound system. Had to re-select none and four speakers to get it working.

Just giving my battery a top up charge using my CTEK charger and then I will start it re-loading the maps.

Thanks for everyone's help.

I now have a 30GB music partition - which would suggest that mine has a 40GB disk.

all these firmware numbers are frying my brain.

Your unit is a 'C' revision post late 2009 LED Columbus unit.

Go to the 'My GTi' website for the 4xxx firmware (http://www.my-gti.com/3354/volkswagen-rns-510-firmware-upgrade-to-version-4020-4024-4026-4028) and the second download link seems to be working.

Read the warnings on the page I've linked to about possibly bricking the unit and also about 'issues' with B & C units and proceed at your own risk.

I'm only advising based upon what I believe to be correct information.

Almost exactly the same as mine and I'm on 4020 and have all BT functions working fine.

Your build date and factory installed software are slightly newer than mine but the part number is the same.

Upgrading to 38xx or 4020 will enable the hidden menu as well as VIM.

I went from a slightly older 2xxx firmware (I can't remember exactly which one without checking) to 3810 when I got it and then to 4020 when that was released without issue.

I believe it is an 'C' revision with LED screen.

Ah okay, i have downloaded the firmware (4020) so i'll try that!

Do i need VCDS for any coding after the update, or just update and all will be fine?

Btw... the maps will get deleted, right?

What's the name of the maps, so i don't "buy" the wrong one?

I live in Sweden

Thanks for the help

Yes, maps will probably get deleted along with music as the 3810 & 4020 firmware needs to create three partitions not two.

Maps will be Western Europe (if that is what you want).

Can i use my navigation discs from VW Passat or do i need the specific skoda discs?

I didn't get any discs with my skoda.

:/

Thanks

Sent from my Galaxy S4, running Omega rom.

I believe VW use the same base maps and in theory they should also work, but don't quote me on that.

  • 1 month later...

This is the info from mine. Can someone please let me know which is the latest firmware I can use and also

where I can find the maps to reload them after the upgrade (I believe they will be deleted?)

Maybe can borrow a DVD by someone close to Warwick?

Thank you for the reply.

Will upgrading directly from 2764 allow me to use custom POIs or do I have to first upgrade go a 3xxx firmware and then to 4020? (there is a note that says do in the ink you supplied)

If that's the case which 3xxx shall I go for?
