Replacement steering wheel

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know if a 3 spoke steering wheel from an Octavia MK2 VRS facelift with paddles will fit my 2010 Superb.

Also will the airbag from my original fit 4 spoke steering wheel fit the 3 spoke wheel

Yes and no

The Airbags on the 2 steering wheels are very different, so you need an airbag made for your steering wheel.

This one will fit your car, even though it says facelift

OK thanks.

I maybe should have added that my car is the elegance variant with MFSW so I would want to keep the buttons. My main reason for looking at this wheel is not the 3 spokes but the paddles.

The actual wheel you need is 3T0419091AC.

I bought one from a breakers in Sweden for my 2012 L&K estate.

Although it is a black wheel now with a brown airbag only a perfectionist would actually notice it.

They are rarer than rocking horse poo but if you keep looking you may find one!

Good fun to use as the brown beast is now approx 210bhp and well run in.

Thanks splinter. I know that the one I`ve got my eye on has a part number of 1Z0419091AKUYQ. At least thats what it says on a sticker on the back of the wheel so doesn`t look like its going to fit.

I had a desire to get one of these wheels too, thinking paddles would be awesome. Then I went for a spirited drive through the twisty country roads, and tried some manual shifting.... like I used to enjoy in my (petrol) Mazda 6.

Maybe I'm getting old, but with a diesel it all seemed pointless changing manually. There's never a shortage of grunt, and there is no reason to chase the red line. Holding onto gears didn't make things any faster and DSG is so quick.

Where I need a bit more torque, hilly terrain and twisty roads, I just use 'S' rather than 'D'.

Just my 2p worth.

Your 2p worth is more than welcome.

I just find that traveling down steep hills the DSG is reluctant to change down enough. So i just thought it would be easier to use paddles. I know I can flick the lever to manual and use that but its one more toy to play with. Admittedly not at some of the prices I`ve seen but if I can get one reasonably priced from a breakers then I might go for it.

But you are aware that - at least in the UK - you'll need to inform your insurer that you've done that as it would be modification and if you don't tell them - they'll invalidate your insurance.

Thanks jafo.

I am aware of that and would be more than happy to let them know. I can`t see it affecting my insurance that much, if at all.

Maybe, but they'll charge you fee for reporting it anyway.

Have you tried looking for the normal superb 3-spoke wheel? It might be just as easy to find but is a straight swap including the airbag so you don't even need a new airbag with the paddles enabled via VCDS.

That's what I did.... I went from the four spoke MFSW to the three spoke flappy paddle one by buying Leon's old one out of his twindoor. Living in a hilly city I use the paddles quite often to overrule the DSG.

Thanks for that. I didn`t know there was a normal 3 spoke wheel for the Superb. But I`ll keep an eye out for one, even a 4 spoke one will do, it`s just the paddles I fancy having.

I`ll give the other one a miss, it seems there`s too many ifs and buts

No worries.. I know it's the easiest option hence why i went for it.... I know Leon replaced his with a new mk3 vRS wheel and not sure he ever got all the buttons etc.... working correctly......

Here's the part number.... 3T0419091L

And here's a pic of it in my car.....

How do I find out if a steering wheel with Part# 5E0 419 091 BC would be a straight forward fit to a Superb OUTDOOR 4x4 (3T)...and would I be able to use my existing airbag??

Cheers...

Good to know, thanks Waveydavey, I'll keep an eye out for one

I plan on replacing my current wheel (like the one on Waveydavey's photo) with a flat bottom one. Found someone here the claims it fits the superb also, so after I test that hypothesis, I won't be needing the old one. I'll send you a PM if I manage to swap it, if you want it.

Leon fitted a flat bottom wheel from a mk3 Octy vRS to his mk2 Superb (Which is when i bought his original 3-spoke wheel off of him) and whilst the paddles on the new flat bottom wheel worked fine none of the buttons worked. I believe it can be done but other parts are required.... Possibly different buttons and control module? I'm not sure he sorted the buttons out or not before gettring rid of the car anyway.

Hmm that sucks... I'll ask the seller anyway and tell him that if it doesn't work, I want a refund.

I did find some wheels on superskoda I think(flat bottom), but they don't have paddles.

Worst case scenario, send the current ugly wheel to a custom shop to make it flat bottom, better leather and maybe some carbon :P
