  1. Mine usually does as Jorgeminator says, lift off slowly, it coats, lift off quickly, it engine brakes. but as with everything Mk4 it doesn't always do the same thing!!
  2. Simple starter, there is loads you can learn on how to drive the DSG box on other threads specifically focused on the way it works, or doesn't!! Its a very clever box that has two clutches so it always has a gear 'ready' for you next gear change, the issue is unless you know how to drive it it may have the wrong gear selected and then take a second or so to select the correct one, but overall its great imho. For routine driving just put it in Fwd or Reverse and that's it.... let the box do the rest. Mine auto selects Park when I turn the engine off so I really do very little gear selecting. Due to it being a bit lazy, if you select Drive (D/S by pulling back on the lever!) twice it puts it in Sports mode (S on the dash) this gives a quicker get away on busy roundabouts for me and if you want to do sporty driving/overtaking. Select it again and it will go back to Drive (D in dash). Paddles are for changing gear while in Auto (Drive or Sport), so for example you can use the gears to slow you down on a hill if you use the paddles to select a higher/lower gear, You can just drive the car as a manual with the paddles, but leave the selector in Auto its fine. If you have been using the paddles for a bit, sometimes mine automatically re-selects Auto but if not hold the paddle down and it will go back to Auto from manual. If in doubt just give it a go, you can't harm the box because it won't let you! D/S (Drive / Sport) for forward and R for reverse... that's it really!
  3. I am slightly confused, are you talking about the DSG selector in the Mk4? Its small and convenient for me, nothing wrong with it at all. If you don't like that one you should try the Porsche Taycan one!!
  4. Good luck with that, mine is random at best, but I don't use the SatNav for routing as its so poor. I personally use TomTom for the traffic and speed cameras, nice and easy through Apple Carplay, but so is Waze/Google..... The car occasionally get the traffic information right and updates whether or not you are using it to navigate, but I would never rely on it.
  5. The two that are in you price range (A and B), are both good engines, but your driving requirements will determine which is better for you. I have the exact model and setup you mention in a). Its a great car and very relaxing to drive, being a good diesel it has great economy on decent journeys and cheap to run. Works well with the DSG but if you are using it for short journeys go for Petrol. SE L has plenty of Tech, possibly too much, but those issues are for another thread! Whatever you go for make sure the software is up to date and the ACC works as it should. Not sure I would go for a manual car in either form but 1.5 petrol owners will know more of what that setup is like. DSG definitely works fine for the 2.0TDi. Mine has a few extras but standard SE L trim is fine imho.
  6. As has already been said, the Mk4 is a nicer and in my view better car than the Mk3 (I had both the pre and post Mk3 facelift cars). Diesel 150 Auto is a great combo for those doing decent miles economy is fantastic and the easy drive of the DSG is really relaxing. SEL trim is great has everything you could need, but early ones suffered software issues, well they all did and still are tbh! If you have a great dealer locally that you trust that's a real bonus as they will have it at some point to fix software issues out! Mine, fixed for most has recently started re-booting the infotainment after a few minutes of starting.. You do get used to the 'features' or software issues of the car, but the worse by far for me was the ACC, so make sure that works properly.
  7. I have to say the Skoda heated windscreen is not as good as Fords. My wife's Fiesta clears really quickly, but the wires in the screen are more obvious. The Octavia takes ages, actually sometimes I am not sure it actually clears it before the fan!! Its such a shame because having a decent heated windscreen is a real win.
  8. I have the same, cold here just below freezing, so not bad, but twice in the last week its done that, I had the steering heating on but not changing it so mine is not connected to that. Seems to only happen first thing in the morning for me and when its cold, but not always!! Sadly I ignore it now as it resets when I turn the car off and on again.
  9. I had the same issues about a year ago and they had to change the head unit on mine and they said it was a known fix. By luck that also allowed my car to get the latest software which apparently it would not accept if it still had the old head unit in (2020 car).
  10. Sounds like you have a problem, I had the Mk3 and the Mk4 is miles better for comfort and handling, totally different league. Apart from the electronic issues that are finally getting sorted (most of them!!) the Mk4 is a far better car than the Mk3 I had, and I had both as SEL so identical comparison. I do agree the electronic issues really got to me as well, VW/Skoda (both have the same issues) took way to long to address them, especially the safety ones. Fingers crossed they will sort your car out but certainly great ride on the standard SEL with 17 inch wheels.
  11. I filled my Adblue to overflowing and had no issues at all, it was a bit like overfilling with diesel....
  12. Just checked, there are two options in the Climate page 'Settings' one for heated steering wheel (purely on or off toggle) and one for Seat Heating where you select the setting (one f the three seat heating options). They both come under 'automatically start at low temp' or something like that. It doesn't say temp they come on, but as highlighted above 14 seems around right when mine automatically comes on.
  13. I cant remember exactly where in the settings, but mine does the same as timster and its a bog standard oil burner... both seat and steering wheel heating comes on at the start of 'cold' journeys, I don't think I had the option to set one or the other just both. I will check next time I am in the car.
  14. I am sadly old enough to remember driving 4 speed manuals, then 5 then 6... Overdrives etc.... I can not say I have never looked down or 'touched' the gearstick to check what gear it is in... It worse when you own cars with 5 gears and 6 gears, driving down the motorway in 5th before you remember it has 6!! As cars have got quieter its harder to 'hear' the gear you are in and as dull as it sounds cognitive failure (jumping between cars with different number of gears) happens.
  15. Surely Hybrid cars use the 'free' benefit of engines to supply heating? Modern engines heat up so quickly it would be so inefficient to run electric only car heating? While still having to get rid of the engine heat... I would have thought a combination would be in use, electric heating only when the engine is not running and or at temperature.
  16. Yep, had my pop pop SOS last time I drove my car and I have the latest software, hadn't had it for a couple of months so its not completely fixed. Not sure if its because of one of the OTA updates or not, I hope it was a one off!
  17. But to be fair, my Octavia, (SEL 150 TDi) so car for car, is only costing 11.6 p per mile as I get 70mpg routinely on my journeys (65 mpg over last 10000 miles so 12.5p long term including town driving) and diesel at £1.80 litre which should get better not worse unlike electricity costs. If Diesel drops to pre crisis level of say £1:40 it will cost 9p a mile to run...... The average cost of fuel for the year I had the car prior to the Rus-Ukr war (2021 - Feb 2022) was £1:25 litre so it averaged at 8.7p per mile for the first 5000 miles I ran the car. For me I have saved a lot of money by having a diesel over hybrid for my journeys, a hybrid would have cost me a lot more in fuel (both types). As ever its all about how you use the car, so to put it in perspective a friend has a Cayenne Hybrid that his wife uses for work, hardly ever fills it up, probably averaging well in excess of 200mpg based on electric 95% time, but when we both drove to the Alps and back this summer he got under 25mpg for the 1700 miles and I got 65mpg.....
  18. I had the Mk3 and Mk3 face lift, high beam assist on the standard LED lights was pretty hopeless for me on the Mk3, I had it turned off as it was more annoying than useful. The Mk4, especially now the latest software has fixed most of the major issues, is a far better car, it, for me, is miles ahead of both the Mk3 and face lift, quality, economy, looks, for me its an easy choice. I wont be getting the High Beam assist from the online shop either, waste of time with standard headlights, imho. Spec changes are often driven by availability of components rear view camera (which I have) was not an option recently due to the chip shortage, so it changes all the time. Decide what is essential and what is 'nice to have' and go from there, I would be surprised if HBA was essential... but each to their own, I would have specced the Matrix headlights if I had bought from new, but hey.....
  19. I got the same update yesterday, no visible changes yet..... it was pretty quick so I guess rather small.
  20. Does the AdBlue Range 'option' not appear as per Mitchec second photo when selecting what can be viewed in the right or left dash data? I think its in settings but I have deselected lots of stuff I don't want to have to scroll through on each side of the dash information windows and mine is just tick the box and then its added to the data when I scroll through the information. For me its one scroll from Range, as I have Range primarily displayed in the RH info display.
  21. Mine, as standard, has the option as above (Mitchec), where you can add the AdBlue range to the dash info, no coding required. It also gives min and max amount to add. Mine when full gives 13,000 miles range, motorway driving extends that significantly.
  22. Just realised my temperature Synch is now fixed, it Synchs the left hand side to the right! It forgets every time I switch the car off, but its a start! It even works through voice command.. 'Synch temperature' or something like that.
  23. I would be amazed if anyone with significant issues with a Mk4 would say anything but stay away from them! Poor customer care, and car issues, I cant see anyone with those sort of issues recommending a brand or model. Clearly those without the c@@p customer care and issues would possibly recommend it, it goes on your personal experience. As I have said many times in the last 12 months, I love the car, but I can't recommend Skoda as a brand to friends because of the poor customer care I have experienced, or the Mk4 until ALL the issues are fixed. The big problem is trying to find a car that is better value for money, atm.
  24. I don't think he said every car has issues. He was correctly highlighting the significant number of issues that they have had and many still have. Just because your car hasn't had any yet, it does not mean they don't exist.
  25. Not sure where you are but UK roads are so bad that it wont work reliably, even on the motorways my car constantly loses 'lock' on the lane because the lane markings are so bad, then it keeps telling me to drive in the middle of the lane or 'take control' as it thinks its wandering around even though its smack bang in the middle of the lane. The roads will need sorting for all the smart tech to work if it relies, as the Skoda does, on lane markings. Road works, temporary markings and poor markings all cause it to get confused.
