  1. Done it, and you know what - The gas laws don't apply to thermometers. They do apply to liquids and gases though.
  2. You don't state what size bags of gravel you had. Maybe you overloaded the boot liner?
  3. @e-Roottoot @Wino Still waiting for either of you to explain why my observations are actually wrong, rather than effects of the gas laws.
  4. Why? I'm going with "because it had leaked out". Unless you actually know that this leakage was natural wastage, then there could be a leak in the system, which you (based on your account) have made no effort to test for. Oh, and UK statute law is matters of fact, not changed by accusations of sarcasm or a belief in your own superiorty..
  5. @e-Roottoot - Yes, I know that, and that means there is a chilling effect in the venturi.
  6. KenONeill replied to pragmatix's topic in Skoda Karoq
Or I heard about a truck driver who was told to deliver to "Stratford LIFT". Cue much confusion when he asked for local directions in Warwickshire rather than East London.
  7. Yes, and I'm still waiting for your explanation as to why neat screenwash that was liquid in the bottle froze on my headlamps if wind chill isn't a thing. Why carburettor icing occurred on cars. Why radiators freeze when the engine coolant is above 0c...
  8. Well, bully for you! Not everyone actually reads or follows instruction though.
  9. Alternatively, you could get someone who actually knows what they're doing to work on it, rather than:- Breaking UK law by doing it yourself. Making a larger hole in the ozone layer by DIY.
  10. Wind chill could take you down to more like -10° at night on the highway. If you're not using pre-mixed, mix 1-1 with deionised water.
  11. 11 - BRAKE are not a "road safety charity" but an anti-motorist quango spending your money on nonsense like this - TRUE, in spades.
  12. Or it may be the engine temperature sensor and not either or both thermostats.
  13. No problems. Further thought has told me to say that a used replacement gearbox may not have come from an Octavia, or from a Skoda at all. Don't stress that; just match the code. Also, ELSAwin is a website, but an hour's paid access is enough to get all the manuals for one car.
  14. I don't always agree with xman, but that does sound a lot like "dieseling". If it's using oil, then turbo or inlet valve seals; if it's not then a bad injector.
  15. That looks kind of like the box has run dry and overheated. Is there any indication that there has been a leak? As for finding a replacement, my best suggestion would be to find the gearbox code on the options sticker (look on the boot floor) and search for "skoda gearbox AAA", replacing AAA with the code for your car. As for a manual the usual recommendation of an hour downloading from ELSAwin applies.
  16. Big big clue underscored.
  17. Ignore it until/unless the leak gets louder and/or you start getting exhaust gases in the cabin.
  18. Vital edits inline, bold.
  19. Thanks for the thought.
  20. Well OK it's an Octavia mk1, but I've never had an AC problem in 16 years...
  21. Well, best wishes. FWIW I've never been in a Yeti (any engine or trim) but have also found Octavias (all models, variety of trims from Classic to Elegance) and a Superb 3 comfortable to drive and as a passenger. Unless you need the extra height to get in and out, why not try a car rather than an SUV? Or look for an Octavia Scout?
  22. is, amazingly enough, the one on the left side of the car, hence the name "LH side fan".
  23. I just read this as "add a bottle of expensive snake oil..." Anything that is delivered through the fuel system will stop working as soon as it gets out of the injectors.
