  1. Apologies if that sounded a bit sarcastic. It wasn’t meant to be, I meant thank you.
  2. Thank you, I had done a search, bot for washer bottle, not screen wash…
  3. As title really, I had the ‘add washer fluid’ warning yesterday, so topped it up, but had the same warning today, and judging by the amount of water I had to put in today, the pool under the car wasn’t from rain water… How do I get to the bottle, as I can see nothing from inside the bonnet. Any other ideas, please? Many thanks in advance Malcolm
  4. I get that on mine, but i put it down to the aftermarket reversing camera i fitted. But possibly not?
  5. Is this possible on a Octavia 3 facelift, anyone know? I think it should be standard, particularly on cars with automatic lights, which often don’t switch on in poor daylight visibility.
  6. I agree, I could quite easily manage without the front foglights, and tbh, I wish a good few other drivers would - dazzle central! But rear ones are generally underused, particularly on m-ways in poor vis, imho.
  7. The radio in my Octavia (Amundsen 2) was fine yesterday, but today it just refused to work. Satnav etc fine, media fine-ish, reluctantly playing from SD2 slot, but no radio beit DAB,FM or AM. Not only would it not play, but it wouldn’t change station. However, I came back to the car after two or three hours, and everything fine again. Discuss. (FWIW the 2 or 3 hours were spent at the wonderful Waddesdon Manor, at the Christmas fair, also a light show on the manor itself, and a brilliant ‘light trail’ through the grounds. If you are in the Aylesbury/Bicester area it’s well worth a visit. Booking essential)

can you confirm the link, please, Gary, I can’t understand their website (presumably www.satnavshop.co.Uk?)
  9. Not an impressive car, but I’m even less impressed by the presenter - I don’t think I’d let him near my car…
  10. I’d like to know this, too, because while mine doesn’t flicker or whine (sic) it does tend to choose when to work, giving a blank black screen when it chooses not to. So thanks for posting the question
  11. My 18reg facelift SEL Octavia (OP mentions a Superb, presumably the same software?) reverts to D, but the ‘mode’ display still shows Eco. I now know to press the mode button 5 times just after starting, to regain Eco. (I like the ‘coasting’ feature)
  12. I was at the National kit car show in June in Malvern, and while it was smaller than at Stoneleigh in pre-covid days, it was still worth attending. Like a lot of things though, you can spend an awful lot of money building/buying a decent one…
  13. Cleaning the car today, I noticed that two areas on the top edged the black grille have started to peel - it looks like it’s the lacquer/clear coat has broken down. Anyone else have this, and how to repair it?
  14. 1.4 TSI 2018 reg. I got a few quotes today, ranging from £370.01 to £679. The Skoda dealer quoted £678, but confirmed the recommended service interval was unlimited for time, and 140k for mileage. So I decided to save my money, and not have it done. BTW the £370 quote was from a garage hat had only done 3 such fittings, and could actually do it tomorrow. Not particularly confidence-inspiring facts…
  15. When it came to replace my 13 reg Mercedes in 2015, the facelift had the iPad blu-tac’d onto the dashboard. Looked ‘Orrible, imo. I changed to a Lexus, which didn’t. And I still think the same way.
  16. I bought mine from AliExpress, see the other ‘retro fit reverse camera’ thread on here. (Author was member Wayland). No coding needed, mine iirc was type A, but the type you need depends on the tailgate handle size. Took me about three hours to fit, you will need trim removal tools (eBay is your friend) and a bit of curtain wire to aid threading. I didn’t fully remove the tailgate trim, i managed to jer-jiggle it enough to get at the latch.
  17. My DSG Octy tells me it’s coasting on its driving data display when in ECO mode, my late 80s Vauxhall Carlton 3-speed auto had no-option freewheel/coasting in top gear, as did two stroke manual SAABs of the 1960s. So has coasting ever been illegal? (apologies for extending off topic tangent) Back on topic - it’s often been stated that EVs, being heavier than equivalent ICEVs, produce more polluting tyre particles. (how true this is I don’t know). The BBC news last evening reported how the amount of this pollutant found in sea water is increasing. Is there a connection, I wonder? If so, what to do?
  18. I live in a market town in Herts, pop approx 13000 (and rising with all the new builds, but that’s another story), and last year a blanket 20mph speed limit was put in place. On just half the town - just a seemingly arbitrary divide. The western half is 20mph, the eastern half it’s 30mph. Maybe there are more councillors living there?
  19. If you get one as listed hove, you’ll know the stud pattern will fit. I’d go for full size every time.
  20. Apologies. The unused steel spare that came with my (then) 3 year old SEL spec Octy 3 has 205/55/R16 tyre fitted, and with the polystyrene insert for the tools fitting perfectly, it looks OEM. The road wheels are 45/R17, so I assume the rolling circumference is the same. I have had to use it, with no problems. HTH.
  21. Dashcam I fitted to my previous Lexus killed DAB, same camera switched to my current Octavia, same semi-hardwire bits (piggyback fuse and hidden trailing ciggy socket) no problems. The Lexus dealer had no idea how to fix it, I just lived with it.
  22. This ^^^^ except I don’t do all that many long runs now, so my long term is only low 50s. Having said that, I’d rather drive in air conditioned comfort, even if it does cost a few mpg.
  23. I take your point, but I already had the fan heater. No worries about cracking the screen, either, as it’s placed on the centre console and heats the whole cabin. Oh, and I’m not sitting there in the cold waving it around, I’m indoors having a cuppa… But as I said, I can get mains lecky to the car, it may not be possible for everyone.
  24. I just put a 2kw fan heater in the cabin for ten - fifteen minutes or so while I have my last cup of tea before going out. This both warms the interior and clears all the windows. The door seal ‘absorbs’ the cable, so the door closes fully. OK I’m fortunate that the car is parked right against the house, and I can put the extension lead through the letterbox. FWIW, my Rover 75 of 25+ years ago had a separate diesel-fuelled heater that heated the coolant, and it could be started from the key fob while indoors. Known as the Bathroom feature. My other solution is to retire, so there’s no need to get up all that early! 🤫 Edit: started to type this before reading Peter’s post above. Nice to have endorsement though!
