  1. It doesn't AFAIK Keyless start on the other hand usually has a back up doesn't it, you usually have to hold the key up to the steering column where it can read the rfid like it used to on old school ignition.
  2. How does it behave if you start it with the sensor completely unplugged?
  3. When its struggling to start, does the rev counter register the cranking speed? The crank sensor on its way out can cause a no start/very hard start.
  4. The most likely culprit to me is the turbo if it’s burning that much oil. You wouldn’t push that much through the CCV and the engines are usually strong.
  5. Yea there is no PCV valve to speak of on the PD engines, not that I can remember anyway, the top end is usually at pressure anyway due to the tandem pump exhausting into the rocker cover Do you get this smoke while driving or idling? Is it visible in the warmer weather?
  6. I would remove and manually pull out the pinion and spray a little silicone grease on the shaft after making sure it looks clean, last one I did needed only this, was just too much friction between the shaft and the seal due to dirt.
  7. Nice to hear a mostly positive experience apart from the Haldex issue, unfortunetly ignorance is not always bliss, it is quite common knowledge on most forums regarding VAG and the Haldex, but the dealer can't really recommend any maintenance on it when officially there isn't any maintenance. It will be interesting to hear your thoughts after 3 years with one of the most unreliable car brands, they are a really nice car though and i'm sure it will tow like a dream.
  8. As above, the injectors seem to be a bit weak, other than that most of the bits they suffer with and that you need to look out for would also apply to a 2.0 with high mileage Its a roll of the dice as always with a second hand car with 150K, it might be a minter, or it could be on the cusp of needing thousands spending it.
  9. From other members experiences on here you have little to no chance of getting them to cover a clutch without a huge battle.
  10. I guess it depends on your expectations, I imagine the 190 TDI pulls very well with a load on the back I think@silver1011 Tows a good size caravan with the 1.4?? 150 and IIRC is perfectly happy with its performance
  11. I'm guessing they didn't specify where from on the gearbox? I mean you can pretty much diagnose a gearbox oil leak in 10 seconds, its only got a handful of places it can leak from. FOr me there should be no diagnosis fee for said work.
  12. Change it, and all the components. lifetime belt or not, it doesn't have a lifetime water pump or a lifetime spring in the tensioner or lifetime bearings.
  13. Typically only the drivers side will dim but not sure if some models may have both that will dim. Have you read the owners manual?
  14. Apologies, must of been having one of those senior moments 😂😂
  15. The lower end batteries still have them, if you go for a Halfords battery with a 3 year guarantee it will have the vent and possibly a little red elbow piece to attach a tube. The better range of batteries they sell like the Calcium ones that have 4 year guarantee do not have a vent.
  16. I can remember my Mrs having a flat battery on the Qashqai, I think it was due to her leaving ignition on while her Mum was in the car for the radio but subsequently the heater blower as well. Anyway she called the AA and they got her going and reccommended a replacement due to its age and condition and the fact it had been heavily discharged. If I could go back in time I would of told myself to stop being a tight t**t and just get a new battery, but no, I charged it up and maybe got another year out of it before it failed randomly very far away from home and I had to drop whatever I was doing, go buy a battery and then go and fit it. It was not worth it.
  17. That's just a hot starting issue, on a cold start the injectors should fire up no matter the cranking RPM. (providing the CTS isn't reporting the wrong temperature that is) And yes it was a very stupid part of the programming which forced many to re-new their starter or get the map fixed
  18. IF the car has had little maintenance then the glow plugs will probably all be dead, that said unless its about -20 the 1.9 lump will start without any glowplugs so i don't think this is the cause at all. Regarding the oil pressure warning : when you crank for a long period the car has expected the car to start so is warning you of low oil pressure, but this is obviously genuine as the car still hasn't started. If you have only just got this car it could literally be anything stopping it from starting, who knows what issues it has but its more than likely going to be fuel related, either the lift pump intermittently not working, air in the fuel lines causing air in the system somewhere or possibly injector wiring.
  19. Does the rev counter register a speed when cranking? what is the fuel level? when was the fuel filter last changed? Have you confimed you are getting fuel to the tandem pump? Lift Pump sounds fine to me, bit of air going through the line initially but otherwise couldn't hear anything abnormal
  20. Where have you heard this? I’ve seen it on the Ford TDCi engines and on the ecoboost as a common issue but I haven’t heard of any issues with the VW oil pump belt drive (yet!)
  21. I'm not 100% sure there is, from doing a quick search I think the facelift VRS models were CR so that would be a much better buy. All the CR engines have a DPF but they work well and rarely give any issues. Usually the bigger cars that couldn't get under the nox limit with just the EGR also have adblue but usually on cars 2015+ that are 2.0 +
  22. Interesting, I don't recall mine sounding any different after the new timing belt kit, but then again I usually start my car and within 5 seconds i'm driving off and no noises can be heard inside the cabin anyway. It looks like there is no cause for any major worry anyway, I certainly wouldn't be going into the oil pump drive, that could be a reciepe for disaster letting the dealer mess with that.
  23. Depending on its age I assume it will have a DPF so I would stay away from the PD engines as they are not designed to work well with a DPF, spend a bit more and get a CR.
