Checking over a Yeti before purchase
Nice photo - I wonder how many of those six are still on the road? I had them originally after the first Legacy Turbo (a great through-the-night to the Alps car!) and then bought another on to keep, ten years ago. I had two company Golf Rs with the 310ps engine, and the Impreza was as quick as long as it was in the right gear at the time. Back to the L&K, I used to use lengths of mountain bike brake cable to clear an Audi A6 drain channels, as I used to get wet front carpets every autumn, after a slight build up of dirt and rotting leaf residue.

Checking over a Yeti before purchase
Sensible is where we got to as well in February! All of our previous Yetis had either been under Skoda warranty, or older but without a sunroof. The fact that you cannot guarantee it will solve or prevent water ingress at some point was the clincher for me to buy an SEL or SEL drive. People sealing up their roofs for good also didn't fill me with confidence. The good news is that good Yetis are still out there.

Checking over a Yeti before purchase
We wanted an SEL Drive but settled on a good SEL, because of the above. In fact, we found a great L&K but the respected independent dealer was 4 hours away. He knew about pan roof issues (across the VW Group) and said if the warranty didn't cover any issues that arose (which it wouldnt), they'd take the car in to 'sensibly resolve'. I didn't fancy that 8 hour round trip !

Checking over a Yeti before purchase
I hope so. I think it's a calculated risk. It's been a known problem for years for *some* cars, but despite years of posts about it, I don't think anyone has estimated how many are affected with age? At 8 years old, I would buy one if the risk was <5 in 100, but it might be 20 in 100. No-one knows. .

They only imported manual 1.4 ones to the UK so it must be a 1.2. We've had a few Yetis and chose not to get an L&K just because of the roof 'risk' as it ages. I would have gambled but my other half would have hated the thought of water getting in at some stage.

WOW; our Yeti is eight years old.
DMK York told us our last Yeti needed front bushes which were 'peeling out' , marked as amber on the usual Skoda condition report sheet, but 'need doing really' said the technician. It went through two more MOTs after that with zero observations, and no squeaks or rattles... We use A&A motors in Hull. We moved 45 minutes away from them, but still go back. It's a trust thing!

Yes, we live on a new estate where the roads haven't been finished yet (will they ever!). I slow down almost to a stop in the Yeti for a couple of ridges in the surface, out of sympathy for the car. Whereas some of the latest SUVs just carry on regardless. The 4x4 Yeti does handle ridiculously well though !

1.2 TSI Yeti - any advice appreciated on Yeti warning lights
I replaced ours just before we got a 'new' Yeti in February. It's very easy. My only two learnings were:- 1) I cut off the original cloth insulation blanket as it got in the way (and pointless in UK) 2) I had 3 warning lights once I'd connected the new one up. The steering wheel icon was cleared once I'd turned the wheel from full lock to lock and driven back and forward .The others cleared, and I didn't need to plug anything in etc to clear them

Or Varta.

I think I would just speak to him or a good local garage. If it's driving ok, it's very likely to be a sensor.

To add to the above, if you have a CTEk charger, I would plug it in overnight and see what happens.

My other half agrees. Could have had a used Karoq or Tiguan in February, but she demanded another Yeti ! I travelled 4 hours each way to get a 2018 one for her ! There's no reason why your car won't go on 'forever' or as long as you want it to.

The most comfortable 225/50/17 tyres ?
I liked the Vectors on our last Yeti, and have Cross Climate 2 on our Audi, so it will come down to best cost in 3 months time, I think. I've reduced the tyre pressures a bit but we live with rubbish estate and local roads.

The most comfortable 225/50/17 tyres ?
You're probably right. I had a very stiffly sprung Volvo V60 diesel hybrid for a couple of years and that was very susceptible to tyre pressures and weight. It rode better with 4 people in it. However, the ride on poor surfaces spoiled the car and after much research, I ended up gambling and buying some (never heard of before!) Debica Presto tyres made by Goodyear, rather than my usual Michelin Cross Climates. It rode "20%" better. Softer sidewalls made a difference.

Jan 18. 58,000 miles. We replaced the suspension at 96k on our last one. It's definitely a tyre thing.

The most comfortable 225/50/17 tyres ?
New Falkens on the rear when we bought the car 4 months ago. I like Cross Climates which is my go to plan for the Autumn, or Goodyear Vectors which We've had before. Just wondering if anyone's found anything more comfortable for 17s ?

The most comfortable 225/50/17 tyres ?
I had a long couple of drives yesterday - one with the seats out and the rear loaded with plastic storage containers full of household stuff like glassware and pottery. I could hear and feel every bump and shock that was coming through the rear suspension. The suspension is normal, firm Yeti, so it must be tyres - it has new Falkens on the rear from when we bought it, and Cross Climates on the front. The plan was to fit 4 x matching All Seasons in the autumn, but I'm open-minded now if someone has found really, very comfortable tyres for the Yeti? Any recommendations ?

yeti, with a smashed up turbo heat shield
Have a look at ebay UK and see what the cost to post is ? I know they don't weigh much ! Actually there's a Skoda spares company in Czech who I've used who are very good?

Excessive Vibrations at between 1500 - 2000rpm under load
Coincidentally, I was looking on YouTube yesterday and a 1973 Thames TV feature popped up on the new Reliant Robin. At the end he took it on track and it was so easy to pitch it almost on its side at low speed, and he wasn't doing a Top Gear type stunt. They mentioned pot holes and crosswinds being a particular issue!

For what it's worth, our 2017 with 58k is more 'grumbly' at low speeds than our 2015 with 100k was. But, economy is better and it drives well.

Timing belt info from Skoda.
That's Exactly what I was thinking! (On both counts)

Timing belt info from Skoda.
I don't get the £1800 as DM Keith Skoda quoted us £1000 in February? Even so I agree, £569 with a new water pump for us (or £499 for the other person) and that garage is making a profit !

Try A&A motors in Hull - they update the Skoda service record for you and have courtesy cars. Our was done in February for £560 including the water pump (2.0 diesel) .They have done work on all our Audis and Skodas since we moved here. They have an ex Skoda master tech. Not sure where the £1800 - we were quoted £1000 by them and the one in York.

Fisker Ocean - very risky bargain Yeti replacement !?
Have now filed for Bankruptcy in the US, as expected. I still think someone (not me!) who takes a chance On paying low £20k's for a new software, long range 570bhp model and avoids having a bump while they own it, will have a great car !
