Considering buying a 2017 / 2018 petrol VRS
DC04R replied to Gazman's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Mine's a 2017 facelift 230. Had it since end of 2019 and it's been super reliable and a brilliant car. Modified it a fair bit since too. Looking to sell it in November as it'll be 3 years then and I fancy an auto/DSG next. Only thing that has given any issue were a set of buckled wheels when I bought it, worn wheel bearing and leaking thermostat - all fixed under warranty. Then usual stuff like brake pads and tyres - but all worn properly, no quirks. -
On a face-lift. I now have 19 x 8.5j et45 with 235 35 19 and its as close as I'd like to get. 2 deg negative camber too and its OK. Think that's the limit really with no real messing around.

Ride is definitely better on 18s. think for the OEM wheels the gemini look better anyway -

That's a 245? Don't the 245's come with the 19" extremes? Decent matching tyres all round and the all clear on the common leaking thermostat and you're good to go! enjoy. Great colour choice. Don't get too carried away with mods like me 😆 -

Good guide. I was lucky and found a 2nd hand gaiter and trim for 8 quid on eBAY so got to keep my OEM setup in tact and in the loft. I went for a raceseng from the states -

Advice on buying a mk3 vrs
DC04R replied to Phil Tomlin's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Mine had to be a TSi facelift with winter pack and not leather seats, in any colour but black or grey. Preferred a blue or red but ended up with a white hatchback, from Glasgow with the winter pack and alcantara seats. The winter pack is well worth holding out for in my opinion. Main things to look for, in my experience, even with a Skoda dealership - water pump/thermostat housing leaks, buckled wheels, noisy wheel bearings. The rest is cheap to sort and they're pretty solid and uncomplicated cars. -
Mines flaking too on one side. thinking to wrap it instead, When you say slide towards front of car, what do you mean?

To fit a good quality intercooler, or not?
DC04R replied to roaddetective's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
I've had an airtec fitted. The difference in size and weight between OEM and the Airtec is massive! I did get heat soak a couple of times at oulton so that was that, larger cooler was needed. Expensive part really and expensive labour to fit! Was it worth it? Not sure, but sure it's better for the car so all good. -
My 2017 VRs 230 TSi was done by Awesome GTi on Racingline software. Was there for 3 hours I think! So they don't just flash it at Awesome. All good so far apart from needing a new clutch 4 months later.

Octavia vrs tsi rear caliper
DC04R replied to octaviavrs4's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
if they're the 272mm ones I'll be taking mine off soon. dust seals are cheap as chips though, get them from Bremtech or big red -
Just had a wavetrac LSD fitted to my Mk3.5 Tsi when having clutch done, wasn't cheap but is brill.

Mine's a 2017 230 without GPF. Had a Racingline one done on it in Nov, no engine mods bar a K&N panel, pikey modification to airbox, hose and a forge turbo elbow. 339 bhp after the map. Took 3 or 4 hrs to do at Awesome GTi, wasn't just a flash load. Was on a similar mileage, clutch lasted 2 months and about 5k before I had it swapped out for a Helix as it started slipping under load.

Anyone had this done recently? Considering it for my white mk3.5

New Helix Performance clutch now slipping.

The joys of car ownership. If it makes you feel any better, I have a friend with a ferrari 456 (1996) and the radiator had a leak, no probs you'd think. Oh no, ferrari radiator is £6k for the part!! -
Anyone got one on a tsi mk3?

Ahhh so is that a drive shaft seal? What a bummer. With my box being taken apart for lsd I'd hope they replace all seals anyway. Not Fancy lashing an lsd in while it's apart?! -

Which seal failed? Thought that was the one that went (BTW the uprated one I'm getting is from AKS and is IAbed billet rear main seal if you're after one. £95 quid so not massively more than OEM one I'm sure). -
H and r springs correct part no.

Octavia 2013 Clutch - Recommendations Please
DC04R replied to JamesStam's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Yes slave cylinder is a new clutch effectively. About £400 labour plus parts. Don't need a specialist though, it's a fairly standard job for any decent mechanic.
