  3. 6Jx15 ET38 Pepperpots weigh about 5.5kg each without the tyres. They are amazingly light. According to "eshop skoda cz", standard 6Jx15 ET38 alloy rims on the Fabia MK3 are between 7.5kg and 8.8kg. So normal rims add between 8kg and 13.2kg to the weight of the car. Even the lightest 7.5kg Fabia MK3 alloy rims will add 8kg to the weight of the car, and this is revolving weight which affects acceleration more than just adding 8kg to the non-rotating weight of the car. Let's say the standard Fabia MK3 does 0-60mph in 10 seconds on the lightest standard 7.5kg alloy rims. Changing to 5.5kg Pepperpots could knock that 0-60mph time down to about 9.9 seconds, ie. almost a 1% improvement in acceleration. However, running 185/60R15 tyres rather than 215/45R16 tyres, will make a much bigger improvement to the fuel consumption than the change to lightweight rims. Perhaps a 3% improvement from the change in tyre size and 0.5% improvement from the change in rim weight.

  7. Skoda sell a 205/55R16 spare tyre to be used with the Superb MK3. https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/rezervni-kola/c/spareWheels?q=%3AscoreDesc%3AcarType%3ASuperb%2BIII%2B%282015%2B%29&text=# It's safe to use a 205/55R16 as long as you increase the tyre pressures compared to the standard tyre sizes. If 205/55R17 uses 2.2 Bar (32psi) tyre pressure, you would need to use an extra 0.2 Bar tyre pressure with the lower load index 205/55R16, ie. 2.4 Bar (35psi). This is because a 205/55R17 tyre with 32psi can support 491kg (670kg x 2.2/3), and a 205/55R16 tyre with 35psi can support 492kg (615kg x 2.4/3). The only time that I wouldn't use a 205/55R16 standard load index tyre on a Superb MK3 is if you need to use more than 2.7 Bar (39psi). This is to give the tyre a big safety margin, as a standard load index car tyre has a maximum tyre pressure of 3 Bar (44psi). If you are going to use more than 2.7 Bar (39psi) tyre pressure, simply fit an XL tyre, which can be pumped up to 3.5 Bar (51psi), although again to have a big safety margin I wouldn't use more than about 3 Bar (44psi). 205/55R16 is the most common size car tyre sold in Europe, and is usually much cheaper than the standard Superb MK3 tyre sizes, such as 215/60R16, 215/55R17, etc. Using 205/55R16 on a Superb MK3, the speedo will over-read by about 10%, as cars' speedos usually over-read by about 5% even on standard tyre sizes.

  9. If your spare tyre doesn't have a slow leak, you will only lose about 3psi or 4psi every 6 months. Pump your spare up to 44psi, and after two years it should still have about 32psi. ie. pump up once every two years. The first time you check your spare tyre, check it after 3 months to make sure that the original 44psi has only gone down to about 40psi. If it's gone done to much less than this, then it has a slow leak. This could be caused by the rim being in poor condition (maybe corroded) where the tyre bead sits, or simply a screw/nail that has penetrated the tyre at some point.

6.5Jx17 ET41 isn't going to be a problem. Even 6.5Jx16 ET33 with 215/60R16 or 215/65R16 is unlikely to cause a problem. 215/65R16 is a much cheaper tyre size than 215/55R17. 12. Welcome to Briskoda. The Skoda Laura is what the Octavia is called in India.
  13. 205/50 and 225/45 have about the same sidewall height. To calculate the sidewall height, multiple the aspect ratio by the nominal tyre width. Sidewall Height 205/50 = 102.5mm 225/45 = 101.25mm
  14. The Octavia MK1 VRS uses 312mm diameter front brake discs, so you don't need 17" wheels to clear the front brake calipers. 205/55R16 on 6.5Jx16 ET42 rims would fit. According to wheel-size.com 225/45R17 will fit 7Jx17 ET38 rims. 15. mytyres are listing Alcar steel rims for the Kodiaq. They will fit the Octavia MK3, but you would need 205/50R17 tyres due to the ET38 offset. Maybe go for 16" steel rims instead. 205/55R16 tyres will be better at absorbing the potholes without damaging the rim or tyre. 18. Karoq Spare Wheel Replacement Kit with 4x2 Drive (1070CZK is about £36.25) https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/sada-pro-vymenu-rezervniho-kola-karoq-s-pohonem-4x2/p/57A093860 Space Saver Spare Wheel 125/70R18 (smaller outside diameter than standard Karoq tyres) https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/kompletni-rezervni-kolo-18/p/57A601011E From the photo of the space saver wheel, it doesn't look like you would get a normal sized Karoq wheel to fit in the same space/wheel well. So maybe carry a black bin liner and an old blanket to wrap the punctured wheel in. The outside diameter of a 125/70R18 is about the same as a 195/65R15 and 205/55R16 tyre, so about 5% smaller than the 215/60R16 sized tyres fitted to the Karoq.
  19. Here's four all-season tyres to add to your shortlist. However, I would be looking at changing to 185/60R15 as it's a much cheaper size than 215/45R16, and gives a better ride and better fuel economy. 185/60R15 can be used as a spare wheel as it fits in the wheel well when inflated. The 215/45R16 only fits in the wheel well when deflated, so isn't suitable for use as a spare. The Goodyear Gen-2 all-season tyre is now an old model, but the latest Gen-3 model doesn't appear to be available yet in size 215/45R16. The Goodyear Gen-2 below, is an Audi specific tyre as it's marked with "AO". This means that Goodyear made this tyre specifically for an Audi model (possibly the Audi A1) but it's OK to use it on the Fabia MK3. The Michelin CrossClimate+ is also a popular all-season tyre, but doesn't appear to be available in the 215/45R16 size. The Vredestein Quatrac will probably give the most mileage. Skoda should have chosen 175/70R14, 185/60R15, and 195/50R16 as options for the Fabia MK3 instead of 175/70R14, 185/60R15, and 215/45R16. Skoda chose 215/45R16 instead of 195/50R15 to fit in with the current super wide, super low profile fashion craze...a bit like when everyone thought that flared trousers were super cool back in the 1970's. Notice that the latest VW Polo and Audi A1 are starting to use more sensible tyre choices such as 185/65R15...no doubt chosen because of the much better ride and improved fuel economy. Also, with such high sidewalls you don't usually break your rims when driving over potholes, ie. they are pothole resistant. It's also a good option for the Scala. It has a reasonable amount of sidewall height, so will help protect the rims from pothole damage.
  22. The contact phone numbers for mytyres.co.uk are now working again. Apparently it's Brexit related. Let's hope everything gets back to normal soon.
  23. It looks like there are big problems at mytyres.co.uk with customers not receiving their tyres. Their usual 0808 1891544 and 0207 6640702 contact phone numbers are no longer recognised. The website uk.trustpilot.com shows large numbers of customers who have not received their tyres. https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/mytyres.co.uk?aspects=week
  24. I use all-season tyres so replace them when they are down to 4mm of tread depth remaining.
  25. Definitely check your tyre pressures. New cars are transported with rock hard 44psi all round and the dealer can forget to adjust them.
