  1. The dashboard in the photos looks like the one in a base level Scala i had as a loan car. The configurable part is much smaller than in my Karoq, and I couldn't get any configuration with two dials.
  2. Just had a Fiat Panda hybrid as a hire car in Portugal. The braking felt a little odd as itstarted charging downhill on over-run. Just like aircon cutting in.
  3. The indirect system works by comparing the rotation speed of each wheel with a standard speed set when initiallised. If a tyre loses pressure it will rotate faster and the alarm will go off. I have two cars with indirect TPMS. On the older one (a Stellantis car) the alarm just shows that there is a pressure loss but not which tyre. I had this a couple of weeks ago. It was a piece of stone which produced a jagged unrepairable puncture, and the pressure loss was fast enough that I could feel where it was due to the way it pulled to the left. Our Karoq also once gave me a warning, but in this case it told me which tyre was affected. It should have been easy with a bit of extra coding to indicate which tyre is a problem. My daughter has a 2008 Panda and that had a puncture about the same time as the Stellantis car. In both cases we were glad of the fact that both had spare wheels. It was inconvenient, but would have been far more inconvenient if they weren't available.. I would never have a car without a spare if at all possible. As for filling with nitrogen, there are apparently some benefits, and some of the claims are true. But in a cost/benefit analysis the general opinion seems to be that it is a waste of money. It's ok for Formula 1 cars and airliners, but gains are really marginal for general use.

Interesting! I did a 50 mile each way trip earlier in the week. The westbound trip gave 49.6 mpg, and the later eastbound trip gave 44.0 mpg. Generally I find that my mpg is slightly better on a return trip than outbound. I put this down to the engine perhaps being a little freer as it may stll be warm.
  5. I know it may be different from my Karoq, but on that the auto hold is controlled from a button near the gearstick. Once activated it stays active.
  6. There are several people on this or similar threads with various solutions. However, no-one mentioned what seemed to be my issue, which was solved (fingers crossed, its been ok so far) by replacing what was considered to be a faulty cable running the lenght of the car, which had to be specially fabricated. Only took 8 visits to the agent!
  7. I don't understand why this is fishy. It seems it was tested 10 months ago and has 2 months left. If you wish to buy the car you could always ask for it to be supplied with a new MOT.
  8. I have a Nextbase that uses battery power faster than a 2 amp adaptor can supply, and it eventually shuts down. I run it with the screen on so I can be sure it is working. I have to use a 3 amp adapter for it and it is fine now.
  9. I have ACC on my manual Karoq, and I wish I hadn't paid extra for it. It should be ok for motorways, but I don't lie the way it sets the cruise speed. If I am cruising at, say, 65mph and I reach a 50mph restriction, it slows to 50mph. Fine. When you get to the end of the 50mph limit the ACC resets to 70mph, not the 65mph I want. I tried it on some A roads. I'm in the south/sout-west, and we have many fairly fast A roads. ACC seems fine on the relatively straight bits, but come to a few bends and it is awful. It tries to take bends far to fast, brake late and heavily, and is extremely uncomfortable or me, et alone my wife who would not be happy at all. Mine is set to ordinary cruise, and is generally ok, I just wish the ovr-run braking was smoother and less intusinve. Not too bad on the motorway, but still causes issues when approaching slower traffic and moving to overtake.
  10. I don't have that screen, however, mine has never shown the date on ether the virtual cockpit or the central screen.
  11. What do you mean by sidelights. On UK srec cars, you have DRLs and on 'sidelight' setting (one place on from auto on the rotary switch) the DRLs should be on but at reduced brightness with the tail lights on. There are no separate sidelights.
  12. True, but this depends on how often it does the calculation, If it is a second it will be of little consequence, if a minute it could make a significant difference.
  13. In the UK it is actually against Construction and Use (or whatever the current legislation is called) for a car speedo to under-read. That is why they are set up like this. Also, the law specifically requires any speed 'evidence' to be provided from an approved and calibrated device. As far as I am aware, a GPS provides accurate sped, but as it is not properly calibrated there is unlikely to be any circumstances where they can be used as a defence.
  14. Have you ensured that the phone is unlocked?
  15. Always found mine accurate to 1-2mpg, but usually high 40s to low 50s.
  16. Yes, they should. Disabling the auto lock used to be done by pressing and holding the physical lock button. I don't like auto locking so I have always disabled it. It works on my 2021 Karoq, but I've a couple of loan cars, on which I've tried to disable, but they wouldn't do it. I suggest, for some reason, Skoda have made it impossible to do simply.
  17. It is vital to use the correct low SAPs oil in engines with a DPF, as the correct oil may result in ash (as well as soot), and the ash will not be removed by driving the car hard. It will be necessary to physically clean or replace the DPF. The correct oil will not prevent ash buld-up, but it should slow it down. It shouldn't be an issue with cars with less than 100,000 miles on the clock. Also note that many petrol cars are fitted with a similar GPF, and will also need the correct oil. I haven't heard of issues with a GPF,but it doesn't mean that they can't block.
  18. Automatic headlights work from some kind of light sensor and also will switch on with the wipers. I don't recall my android auto screen always going to night setting when the headlights switch on. What is a pain is that the rear lights don't come on with only DRLs. The biggest problem with aut lights is that they don't come on in daylight fog if it is otherwise too bright. I suppose some drivers think that an automatic system will work in all circumstances; unfortunately they do not.
  19. Oil should not get very dark in a petrol engine; however diesels will discolour new oil to black extremely quickly.
  20. Cars use more fuel when they are cold. The consumtion information starts of being based on the cold consumtion. My Karoq only indicated ~12mpg by the time I get to the end of my road. The computer starts with a fuel range, and as you drive it is calculated and the remaining range displayed. As the engine warms up it becomes more efficient, and frequently the consumption improves sufficiently for the displayed range to increase. This can also be true if yoy have been doing a lot of urban driving, then get out onto country roads.
  21. I assume the Koiaq is the same as my Karoq. The heated mirrors and heated rear window are independant, you can clear the mirrors without the rer window heater on. IThe conditions were right to check yesterday morning.
  22. I'm assuming that you are using the mirror control, rather than via the heated rear window heater, like on our other car.
  23. Winter grille covers were commonly available for Citroens ~2007. Perhaps Skoda do them. They were for diesels though, as they take longer to warm up.
  24. I always use Michelins. The only issues I have had with them was I once hit a pothole quite hard and this produced a sidewall bulge, and I had one Michelin which was an original from new from February 2019, which I had to replace earlier this year after ~66,000 miles, not because the tread wore, but because there were sidewall cracks developing. When I put the new one on, the droning noise from the back mysteriously stopped!
