  1. Start with a linkage alignment procedure. Look in our Guides subforum and/or on YouTube.
  2. @Kcook Any chance of you posting actual diagnostics rather than just "light sometimes comes on"?
  3. As @UrbanPanzer says above, with the note that this means a diagnostic tool capable of changing settings such as OBD II or VCDS.
  4. Ok, when you quote something you should see a double indented line saying something like "So long ago, $Usertag said:" on a pale grey background. Below that you should see whatever you're quoting single indented on a paler grey background. This text will all have a medium grey line down the left side. When you get to the white area below the greys, type your reply there.
  5. Well the only intrinsic "benefit" of 5W40 over 5W30 is that the viscosity of 5W40 changes more slowly with increasing temperature. There is no direct relationship between viscosity and a VW 599.00 specification.
  6. You are aware that the passengers are breaking UK seatbelt law if they're not wearing their belts? I'm not sure you can do what you want, but suggest pointing out that they're responsible for their own fines.
  7. Not a chance IME. The wire snaps inside the plastic sheath, so you need to get a continuity tester in at the individual wires. Never seen that one with the door mirror before, but the mirror controls are usually passenger side, both sides and motors off.
  8. That's what I expected. I'm now at least 99% that you have a broken wire in the bellows to the driver side rear door.
  9. I'll also use @$usertag to credit or reference someone (second person) when actually addressing a third person.
  10. Odds on you have a broken wire in that door. Does the window winder work?
  11. Easy peasy if you have halogens; just match up the type code and your registration on a site like Powerbulbs. Beyond that, is there any chance of you writing in sentences and maybe even paragraphs rather than just flow of consciousness?
  12. I'm inclined to say that the owner was partly at fault, tor taking a decent car to Halfrauds for service!
  13. Ask them how they would bleed brakes on a VAG car. If the answer doesn't involve a scan tool, say "I'll get back to you" and hang up.
  14. Apparently yes.
  15. Jackanory, Jackanory...
  16. That's for brake line unions, not for bleed nipples.
  17. @Clarkypainter @Breezy_Pete In any event both CO and CO2 are colourless gases, and not the "black smoke" that the "new MoT station" supposedly measured a value for.
  18. Actually, further thought occurs. If you contact a competent tool factor or motor factor (so not Halfrauds) and tell them you want a "brake bleed spanner" they will probably offer a 6mm/7mm single hexagon ring spanner.
  19. Not really; it's more that the red paint has faded everywhere except under where the badges were. This is a well known issue with red.
  20. @Natalie1982 As these guys say, you need a 7mm spanner for OEM bleed nipples. I would recommend trying to find a single hexagon (6 points only) ring spanner for this job because it's unlikely to slip and round off the head.
  21. When was the brake fluid last changed and the system bled? Get a different manual; I've never owned a car with disc brakes that didn't have a servo.
  22. Both or either one or neither, depending on the level of wear in the swivels.
  23. He may be correct; 36PSI is sometimes the maximum pressure for $brand tyres.
  24. You said it first. After all, we can't comment on Brand_X tyres unless we know what they actually are, and they will literally have something like "Yingtong Ditchfinder 265/40R19 S79H" written on them for you to copy. Similarly the standard wheels will literally have full size data cast into the rims.
