  1. Isn't the standard warranty 3 years? The car is 3years 6 months old. tom
  2. Thanks guys. A lot to think about here. tom
  3. What don't they tell you in the adverts for electric cars? In simple terms what are the variables that affect range and approximately how much, say as a percentage, is that effect? Obvious questions are: If the car has a stated range (from fully charged) of say 200 miles at a temperature of 25C. At a temperature of 5C how much would the range be reduced? What effect would running the aircon have? My aircon is permanently on summer and winter. Surely listening to the radio must have an effect? Mine is always on. How about driving at night? How about running the heating i.e. outside temperature 5C, inside temperature set to 20C? Using heated seats? Using cruise control? Charging at 20C compared to charging at 5C? These variables would count for a lot of my driving. What other variables are there? tom
  4. Not just the temperature, the humidity is totally oppressive. I remember visiting friends in Delaware in May 1988. It was simply amazing to experience warm rain. Never felt that in my life. tom
  5. 1. My key battery is replaced by the dealer at the annual service. My wife's key has given up once, I talked her through how to start the car and get home and then replaced the battery the following day. I now keep a spare battery in the car 2. I have the older Kessy key without the motion sensor. I don't use a Faraday pouch, no need. Lock the car with the button on the key then within 5 seconds touch the lock sensor. This disables Kessy. the car can then only be unlocked by pressing the unlock button on the key. tom
  6. Thanks tom
  7. Perhaps there should be an electric car thread as a sticky. I don’t have one (yet). One thought about charging. In Bury St Edmunds there are some lamp posts that double up as charging points. They are next to the kerb and parking spaces so no cables across the pavement. Good bit of lateral thinking by the Council. Tom
  8. How can anyone describe a rubber boot mat as a boot liner? Surely a liner implies protection for the back of the rear seats and the sides of the boot. I've got rubber mats in the footwells nobody is calling them footwell liners! tom
  9. Re 1. The central seat belt uses both seat buckles, nothing to do with LHD/RHD. It comes down from the roof and connects the two buckles to form the lap and diagonal. That's the best I can do to describe it. Best read the owner's manual. tom

Even better with an earlier SeL. No need to even take your hands off the wheel just a couple of pulls on the left hand paddle drops two gears for the overtake then a longer pull on the right hand paddle puts it back in to auto. tom
  11. This has been previously discussed: tom
  12. Pull the hook out hard vertically first and only then try to hook it to the headrest. If you pull and try together it doesn't work. tom
  13. Even if they lend you a car they probably won't let you take it abroad. tom
  14. .. or from the aircon. tom
  15. We have an odd problem with our tailgate (1.5 Tsi SeL). Normally opening and closing is no problem, pull the rubber handle and the lid comes down as it should. However, we have been doing a lot of loading and unloading lately. If the lid is left open for any length of time it becomes very stiff to pull down. Anyone else had this problem. tom
  16. Using clock numbers what position are you resting your hands on the wheel? 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock are what is normally taught. tom
  17. Was it raining? Had this happen to me last Friday in bad weather. The red warning triangle came up and also the car symbol with “funny” lines at top and sides. They went away a few miles down the road. I took it as a temporary problem caused by the weather. Tom
  18. It stores the tyre diameters relative to the other three wheels/tyres. If then one wheel gets a puncture the diameter (hub to road) becomes smaller, the tyre does more turns than the others and the ABS flags up the discrepancy. tom

Ken Bruce on Radio 2 told a story some years ago about a delivery driver turning up in Brechin and not being able to find the address he had to deliver to. He stopped to ask a local, they checked the paperwork and it transpired the address was in Brecon, North Wales. Oh the perils of satellite navigation. Tom
  20. So what is the significance of a recent fill up? tom
  21. The other weird thing is that when restarting despite D showing on the dash the centre screen will show Eco. Go figure? tom

The way I remember it is that a smaller offset brings the tyre further away from the suspension strut. tom
  23. Warm or cold? tom
  24. Christmas 2019 bought a pre-reg Se L. Got paddles, boot light/torch, no heated steering wheel (probably not standard equipment) and umbrella missing from underseat compartment. Dealer gave me an umbrella but it didn't fit, decided life's too short so didn't pursue it. What is standard equipment is a minefield. tom
  25. ...oops sorry, thought it was the puddle lights. I didn't even know about the ambient lighting. tom
