VCDS start stop disable on 2018 models
I was to say we did have a level crossing in my old town with regular trains, and appreciated the feature at those moments. Kind of glad that things can be debated, whichever way you ultimately go, it should be fine. I miss my old Superb, but I was close to work and it would have killed the DPF all those short journeys.

VCDS start stop disable on 2018 models
Thanks for the answers/debate. I myself when I first got a car with SS, I was cringing thinking that it would chew starter/kill battery... but my own long term experience was positive, no issues whatsoever. I absolutely appreciate the concern, and agree if you have concerns get it disabled. I mostly adapted my driving style to negate a fair few of the SS chances, by approaching lights at slower speeds if they were red at a distance. Main thing is to enjoy our cars, and disabling it won't hurt it.

VCDS start stop disable on 2018 models
Just a curiosity, was wondering what the reasoning was for disabling stop/start was for? I mean it's your car, and to set and adjust what you like.

Pop pop,SOS
Thanks John, I am wondering if when the dealers are updating the SW1896, they are not following the whole TPI to the letter, or there's one for Skoda and one for the Golf Mk8's with different protocols. Just seeing the 2 threads here with a tentative link and my brain is wiring the two possibly together, when there maybe no link.

I did post this over here for someone else, and if you check the very large list of modules, you should see that "OCU" get's updated with the SW1896 upgrade AFAIK. Just remember this information is from Golf Mk8 platform, but appreciate that they share parts. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/505794-epb-auto-hold-not-releasing-issue-again/?do=findComment&comment=5679205 The post might indeed be O/T or possible red herring, it would be nice to actually have someone post the TPI for the Skoda infotainment update. Did your car update to SW1896 on it's own, or was it a dealer update for your car?

Laptop advice
Mines proper belt and braces. Source file backed up to NAS They are backed up to a Desktop USB Drive My NAS also has 2nd Desktop USB Drive that is backed up to weekly, and has versioning control (lives in fireproof safe) Files I cannot download again, so family photos etc, get copied from the NAS backed up to password protected files, before being uploaded to one of my old NAS units offsite. And then my NAS also backs up to a 3rd NAS (yes I have 3x NAS systems) offsite in another location with versioning controls also. I need a nuclear war to take out my data, but I will be crispy, so not too worried about files at that point.

Good shout @EnterName this is often overlooked when people buy IT equipment. They later complain their homework/wedding pics/family photos are in the computer and the hard drive has failed or a rampant virus has chewed them up and spat them out.

Fault: Vehicle lighting
I think our wires are crossed. My firmware is completely different for my car, different hardware. You posted that you have error shown on your radio about lighting, but having scanned the car no faults found. I made a suggestion that your firmware in radio might have trouble, and we should check for any possible updates (and apply if needed) For your car to have no faults found in scan by technician, but to see error in radio does not make sense. The situation should not occur. There maybe a reboot/reset process for the radio, and this might clear the fault it has found and stored?

Bolero MIB1 Update Help Please!
As I am here, I can send you the firmware for this. If you look up a few posts, you will see that you are in the wrong screen for update of firmware. You are needing to press and hold Menu button down until you enter the hidden menu where you can see Software Train, and the REAL update button. @pab567 I can send the firmware as you are probably offline, though he has question about changing of screen your expertise would answer.

The battery as the new frontier
As long as it's Biggus D1ckus, then all good

The battery as the new frontier
Makes sense, I have heard of people unplugging the charging car and swapping it to theirs before. I guess you are living by the gentleman's code of getting out of the way for an EV user, kudos to you.

The battery as the new frontier
Out of curiousity, are there rules on charging? I presume each location has rules for how long you can charge, or is it a free for all? Only asking as you mentioned giving up your space if an EV pulls up, hybrids can self-charge etc. Is this a rule, or just plain good manners to give up a space for an EV owner?

Car won't start/won't turn over, ESP & Power Steering Light
First of all welcome Stuart, I appreciate the long post, only suggestion would be to make it in chronological order if possible, to my head the timeline seems to jump around (might be just needing more coffee here mind you) Hopefully Green Flag might be able to shed some light on things, but might not be fixed as it perhaps is more involved. Meanwhile you can check here for members with diagnostic tools that maybe in your are that might be able to assist with scanning List of VCDS and VAG Can Pro owners

Best of luck with the process, not sure if dealers will be open to such a complicated retrofit... also if they do they will charge you the Earth for such a simple job. I do agree that it is a First World problem, but I used to spend a fair bit of time on the road myself, so my cold drink and sandwich was happy. The actual issue is more that if you should have had it fitted, after spending so much on the cars... then it damn well better be there. I cannot think that anybody would be happy about not getting the paid for trim level if they were honest. The Dealer that emailed you the chip shortage is a ducking clown, no way that little cap has a microchip in it 😄 Feel free to grab that picture and email them if needed, also given the price of such a simple item, you will be mad to pay dealer for these parts (scrap yard or anywhere else will be cheaper)

@Maestroy You should hold down your menu button to get into the hidden menu Will need to see your Software Train, to make sure correct file is sent. It should look like this - MSTD_EU_SK_Pxxxx Also you must be able to enter this hidden menu for update, no other location works. And welcome to the forum
