  1. Goodbye summer, see you next year.
  2. 130miles or so, however it’s far from flat ground. There are five 50kw on Skye though. Scotland generally, isn’t actually as much of a concern as Wales, Cornwall etc from playing with the zap app. Scotland feels further ahead, possibly a bias for a lot of posts from people in Scotland here. 🤷‍♂️ still have swmbo 1l focus estate to fall back on albeit defeating the point somewhat. If that’s the game then a smaller ev works far better… till she wants to go south when I go north hehe a fine problem to have though.
  3. I've been thinking like an ev owner for a while, journeys to x or y... all good. Then this weekend, a blast to cornwall, 398 miles, plenty of ev points north of penzance then thins rapidly. Friend has a lpg van, whilst he can drop to petrol, he prefers lpg. Done the trip with him a few times and pulled off into multiple different stations trying to recall which one has the lpg It's not dissimilar. Except his van cost him like 5k I can't quite fit an enyaq on the drive, so on street. Although under a street lamp, so the cable... well don't think leaving that out is a wise idea. A bit of garden redesign might get it on at an angle. Talking to SWMBO, do we need to do ev, no, can we do it, yes, should we do it, we can, so... My anxiety is definitely when I get into longer journeys or more remote days like scottish glens or skye as a day trip from fort william as it's raining/sunny. Friend just talked to a night sleeping in hers as she ran it low ( old second hand old leaf...). So she pulled into a supermarket at penzance and the chargers were offline. She slept in the car not knowing where else to go, or if it would make it. Not the ev problem an app could not sort for her, or the old highland thinking of not going out with less than half a tank. It's all jolly good to see and read though... keeps the idea worm going in my mind
  4. Interesting Must admit I do like the Ioniq 5. The volvo entrant, whilst on paper is great, looks wise, meh they didn't bother. Maybe a good sleeper of sorts It's odd, what I find odd, is how both cars are nearly identical in dimensions yet appear totally different. there is like 10mm in it either way. What I can't find is the drag numbers. Interesting in the video, both arriving at similar percentages and charging back to similar thus the ioniq is/was getting through more juice. Logical really awd, weight... just like my 272 superb gets through far more petrol than my friends 1.4 superb. I really do think a comment I read here or somewhere else, once you've wrapped your head around a petrol/diesel fuel tank as a fuel source is the same as a battery fuel source, L/KWH per mile, range, weight, faster, lighter, more zoom, it all gets a lot simpler. I do like the idea of parking up and resting/working for an hour. What I'd be most wary and I've been caught a few times, is doing that, then grabbing some food, then getting a over time limit fine a few weeks later. I know why they do it, but with extended periods, let's say chargers are half down and it's busy, I could be there way longer than the 'limit'. I doubt the private owners will make dispensation for chargers. Umm this is a topic in it's own right. Might see if I can borrow an ioniq, certainly looks more adventurous.
  5. ColinD replied to Heike's topic in Skoda Enyaq
@Heike one month on, how is it going? Enjoying the car now it's ride is a little less firm?
  6. A fine summers evening. One more tonight then thunder and bumbling time.
  7. Mini (new) same wheel base as freelanders, I think. Octy, essentially an elongated GTI. GTi will be better in twisty roads, McDonalds Car parks. vRS will be cheaper, possibly less to insure, not as good in the twisties... but able to keep up with anything sticking to limits of limits and if not those, then physics. Eg moors over the back of bolton, way back in 2001ish we used to go out, evo's scoobies, octavias, 330's... all had strengths and weaknesses, all got to the end of each leg about the same time. Only some of them cost <half the running mates & didn't need all the security hoopla. Should be plenty about too, vRS that is... exDemo's If it wasn't new you were after. Bit change from the ST mind I'd of thought. In that sense I guess the Cooper and gti will feel 'sportier'. Although another fun fact to close out... the polo, or is it the lupo, is the same size as the mkI golf Pretty sure you could fit it in the boot of the octavia. Good boot for travel, biking; I can fit my gravel bike wheels on in the superb hatch. Food for thought
  8. @varaderoguy Yeah it's not many. 5.71 tonnes:25000 miles in a diesel vehicle doing 50 mpg (UK) src: https://calculator.carbonfootprint.com/calculator.aspx?tab=4 So I don't do that sort of mileage, but I have lots of power hungry stuff and the driving I do do, tends to be local <30miles over hilly ( peak district ) so I use the 5.20 plan: https://ecologi.com/business/checkout That covers me at a most basic level. Of course one needs to decide if one trusts a checkout page with rough summaries or a bit of fact checking elsewhere. Because 12months of 0.9 is more than 5.71 tonnes. Then again there is all the home stuff, boiler, tv, internet modem, bar fire and so on... All said, anything is better than nothing, and something is a start For less than a round (4 people) I feel slightly better about ragging a 2l petrol car up and down dale... slightly... goes of to punish myself.
  9. Then as I was in a world of my own for a little longer than I care to admit... Might as well do July's trees while I'm at it... Here are your trees for July: https://ecologi.com/briskoda?treeId=611a9a1fd372d223665bf573 Thats quite a few trees. Along the way we got some extra ones thanks to someone starting there own offsetting... thank you whomever you are. If you want to start your own offsetting, join the party. This link nets you some and us some additional trees. https://ecologi.com/briskoda?r=5e6a458e1577910018ebdb95 Per month £10.40 offsets around 25k miles per year, ask your boss, we can together do more. Thats the price of two pints! If goverments and big companies won't we'll have to get the ball rolling...
  10. Thanks to @varaderoguy for planting some trees: https://ecologi.com/briskoda?treeId=610531179c3198238d089a8c A little late for earth day in my reply, but what the heck: https://ecologi.com/briskoda?treeId=611a99d3d372d223665bf533
  11. You see if you don't do something every month, when you do finally sit down to catch up, it feels like a mamoth task. Had a really tough May, June and July. Physically, emotionally & mentally. For some reason I woke up today and gave a hoot again So anything today is a win. Here is June's Trees, your trees: https://ecologi.com/briskoda?treeId=611a9902d372d223665bf4ad
  12. Fantastic effort on this guide!
  13. Got her to the garage. Prop shaft bearing. Nearest one is in the Czech Republic. they reckon it’s safe to drive, which kind of goes against my grain of engineering knowledge around bearings that have failed. tune in next week for, shopping for new exhaust, transmission, gearbox, pants.
  14. Have merged duplicate posts and cleaned up
  15. Arh sorry missed that bit. Wonder how close it might come to the e-tron 55... That would be a nice 'x'.
  16. Suspect the sportline will just be trim and options. In the other ranges there hasn't been a significant different really in specs, performance wise. I've not followed the enyaq too closely, might end up buying one and blowing my 5year plan
  17. Have just spent a week in the back of a 1.5tsi superb sportline. A bit bigger than the octavia. 3 people, 3 bags of climbing kit. Driving through wales, honestly was fine. The guy who has it, does over 30k a year. Dsg vs Manual... what driving do you do? I'd not go back to a manual now for (uk) towns and cruising on the motorways. Of course the latter you don't really need to change gear. OF the extra kit, decide what you want the most. Kessy, a nice to have, I have to unlock with the fob and I've left it open a few times. Three zone ac... as a driver I only need one Two is enough. and so on... With the baby, those extra euros each month in a trust fund will be far better than a bit of chrome. reversing camera, yeah it's neat and novell, once, twice.... But I don't use it at all now because it can't see where your nose, or sides are going.
  18. Broke it. No idea what's up it was fine the other day. Parked up, pulled off last night, odd squeaking, followed by a grind/grating on right hand turns. Idle she's fine, revs out of gear fine, drive squeak, off throttle coast, corner right/left while coasting fine... all fine. On throttle squeak. Honestly it sounds like a clutch squeal, or belt slippage, it changes, but DSG box... that or a stone. The alarming one is the slightly mechanical sound on right hand turns... the squeaking on throttle... decidedly mechanical... so I wait till next wed to find out. They did say I was covered by recovery so driving was fine... definitely a glass half full chap on the phone. I was seeing a wheel bearing fail and I plough straight on before I saw the inside of a recovery vehicle. It will turn out to be a errant leaf, held in by a pigeon poop. If it is this it's done 2hours and over 50miles of white/dark peak bumps and boots
  19. Forgot we had a Strava group. See I do silly things, like buy a bike, go for a ride. Then a few weeks later go for another one. Then a few more weeks, another one. thing is each one I think, last one was grand, I can go further, faster, higher. so it was I headed to the woodhead Is the trans pennine trail. It passes a few minutes north of me, rude not to. Mostly flat had a nice avg of 20kph as it was very devoid of people. Unlike previous weeks where it’s been busy, so you keep stopping for errant dogs, children, horses. but 5kms from the woodhead, my left knee began to hurt, really hurt quite quickly… and I climbed on it, figuring it might pass if I slow down… #manscience. However it hurt some more, but I was near enough at the top and I could chill for 30mins with a cliff bar. So I carried on. Got to the high point, wolfed my cliff bar, turned back. Oh crap it hurts pedalling downhill... only 30km to go. need to go and see a physio for it, probably the itb. Too much desk jockeying. However, got to climbing for a week first, you know wrack up the aches and pains a bit more
  20. I’m less interested in finding out thanks for the reports of spam keep the community strong folks
  21. Thank you to all who have contributed to the trees. A bit of a milestone, together we've planted over 5k trees around the planet in less than a year. BRISKODA as a part of the legal entity has been chugging away with 226 tonnes of co2 offset too.. way more than we use, but that's no bad thing. That is, 174 long haul flights or 562,641 miles in a car. Although not sure if thats a citigo or a 280 superb. Probably something in between, heck all I know is it's more miles than I did last year.
  22. And just so, you know it's not 2022 before I get around to it... Mays trees are in too: https://ecologi.com/briskoda?treeId=60ca372eb8a5749240c7e465 I could take a punt on Junes trees...
  23. @varaderoguy your trees and a huge thank you from gaia --> https://ecologi.com/briskoda?treeId=60ca35c335d7f7926b71f79b
  24. No not forgotten about our trees... april is year end, and I've still not done it all :( Actually been driving the car a bit... mostly to hospital and back to see poorly people. Ok so belatedly Aprils trees: https://ecologi.com/briskoda?treeId=60adea9436d53422c1c0dfcd
  25. Facepalm. I went to alpkit to order a mountain bike like 1994. got one of these gravel bikes. never thought to go and find a 20+ year old bike. that said I do know where my grifter is stashed away... would not fancy one of your rides on it though. need to get out on the gravel again. Plan was today but it’s lashing it down here and cold too... nesh I am
