Picking up a bike, 1st time?
Just shy of the magic 50, I've been seriously thinking about bikes. Mostly for local a to b stuff... Thing is I always avoided as I figured I'd kill myself. I'm half hoping I may of calmed down just enough to only bad mess myself up... although now I guess it's the other folk that will get me. So, I was seriously thinking of an ev bike, zero kind of thing, nothing bonkers. Enough to get me 20miles out to the peak for a walk... I can't see myself doing a Charlie Boordman and riding for months into the desert. Although it might be fun. :shudder:. Nor I suspect going out on the sunday to the pub with a group. If it's good enough to do that I'd likely be hanging of a rock somewhere. Any suggestions, or advice for a total novice on a powered bike... walk/run away?

Watch Out For The Potholes
One should never give advice... nor offer it, nor utter it... its been one of those weeks here My superb is on the silly 19's with rubber bands too. Keep thinking of going to 18's I don't think 17's will fit due to brake spec. I took a vRS from skoda for a week. At the time I had a citigo on bouncy castle tyres. I parked up in a few places in the rs and cringed as the wheels clattered into rocks in grass... getting out looking for the mammoth rock I just impaed the tyre on, well there is this 2inch pebble... did I really lose a tooth over that? then I borught the superb on the same size tyres. Lessons learnt zero!

Company car driver
The odd link in t his context is totally fine. It's persistent or deliberate that I take objection to. Like those who'd take a biscuit from your table without asking, just gets my goat. I'm totally ok with valid members of this community posting links to help each other out.

Bonjour de la Suisse
Bonjour, Welcome to the community. For the sake of everyone, the community language is English. I don’t mind native language posts, if they also have a translation. I know you can’t edit your post, so I’ll drop a google translation below. Hello hi ciao Owner of a 2014 Octavia 4x4 2l I came across your forum while looking for information on this car which I find top notch and above all very practical. Passionate about cars, I spend a lot of time tinkering and maintaining my vehicles. My family is my second passion.... but I must admit that my Skoda is less capricious than my wife 😅 friendly Fred

Cupra Born
Thank you so much for that. It’s certainly echos my contra argument, ie keep the ice. spent a few months driving it like an ev, stopping at chargers. Seeing the queues and thinking do I really want that. home charging coupled with low tarrif/solar is key to making the maths work. A local run around Zoe van was an early thought. But to do battery and solar is an extra 15k. It all begins to feel like an expensive game to get “cheap” motoring. I suspect there will be a return and a flurry in a few years. I also suspect deadlines for no new ice will slip, or there will be a lot of imported 100mile cars.

Cupra Born
Oh heck yes. That whole elephant in the room: I don’t need to change… been looking for remaps too . Most of my reasons are inquisitive, the rest environmental. I don’t believe it’s cheaper overall. It’s all very gray around the cost (environment) of all that shiny new metal and plastic. Vs the also grey cost of refining new fossil fuels/oils for my 34mpg petrol car. im crap at predicting the future… My gut says, opec et al won’t let the oil price drop and harm their own and lesser extent countries/citizens futures. So petrol prices only ever going up. ev’s are set for a huge price adjustment, downwards. Admittedly they are going up presently. They have to fall because no one can really justify twice the ice cost for a daily runner. second hand ice will continue to rise in value until ev’s price reset, infrastructure improves, electric on street charging permitted/works, oil tips the total cost per mile over ten years maths firmly in the electric direction. we all have to buy boats, and then who had the last laugh says a one Kevin Costner I’ve said it, now none of it will happen

Cupra Born
Well the Renault is out. Had a test. Very tame throttle. No sense of ev push; well pull as it’s fwd. I hugely prefer the Renault interior. I prefer the cupra drive I prefer the mg4 price point. the mg4 and cupra on short drives felt similar enough to be fun on some b roads. Im soooo close. The Renault guy was intrigued why I’m not entertaining the enyaq rs. 60k is a pretty good blocking. There are a tonne of 60k ice cars I choose. im now at the ok… replace like for like my superb, 44k, or thereabouts; yikes. That’s gone up! So what do I get from the born/Megane/mg4 that I don’t get from the superb? Electric seats, boot space, range, convenience (perceived refuelling) The mg4 feels lower quality than the born inside. Maybe a little rushed. Equally there is plenty in there for the money. Of that there is no doubt. so born and megane over priced, mg slightly under priced. Almost 10k diff on all the toys spec. Megane and mg deliver in days, or a few weeks. not that one needs to rush, but not 12months in vag land. hehe it’s fun thinking game.

Rear Tyre Wear Skoda Enyaq
Hi, I’ve split this out to its own thread as it’s likely; as you said, to be more than one instance. I’ve moved it to the Enyaq forum too for direct relevance to that model. let’s see what other owners have experienced and what Skoda uk do or do not do.

Ado!
Hi and welcome. Had a roomster for a while, fun cars, not to bad in a corner either. In hindsight I should of just swapped the seat and not the car. Checkout the roomster section, there might be more 'roomster' eyes there. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/172-škoda-roomster/

can a skoda fabia monte carlo 2014 be fitted with cruise control
Hi @codyblue welcome to the communtiy. im not directly familiar with the fabia. However I know it could be done in earlier cars, like the Octavia. here are some search results. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/search/?q=Retrofit cruise control fabia&updated_after=any&sortby=relevancy&search_and_or=and id hazard a guess it can be done. Of course there will be a cost. Not sure where you are, but there are a lot of local vag specialists who could do it; assuming it’s possible. that cost, needs to be measured against the cost in returning and purchasing another vehicle. do you have the advert still as that’s a crucial part of that. Take some advice from a few more. hope this helps. Feel free to ask more questions, as replies to those topics, or a fresh.

Can someone recommend front shocks for a 2015 Skoda Octavia Scout Mk III Type 5E
A long time ago I had a set of konis. They leaked. A shame as they were inside a set of KW coil overs. the KW bits of metal were fine, the konis, less impressed. idk what would be a good fit for the Octavia scout. Sadly not gotten around to owning one. Local dealer had one, very over priced, sent to auction, prob got less than I offered. the obvious replacement is a oem part. Or a generic. the less obvious is, do you need it to be more robust, upgraded?

At last, an Electric car I can be genuinely excited about!
If I can find a good base… I’d be more than tempted. just tried the new config tool and the packs are annoying. Certainly when comparing to other Ev marques, even in “house”. I’m certainly not excited about Skodas offering atm. an electric classic I am would push me to the diesel van for weekend though 😞

Faulty fuel level needle?
It might also be that after an hour you cannot edit. This is a protection as we’ve had in the past folk play silly and edit posts, ether to change the context in an argument, or spammers to add in content that we’ll not then see, or other reasons. A few bad apples and all that. Supporters via freedom do not have this restriction. That’s my initial thought

Kodiaq vs Karoq and what engine
Times passed now I know… but for anyone else, if you twitch the steering wheel as you see a gap approaching the start stop will, start. All ready to go loud as the gap arrives. I’ve almost hit a few things while parking, as it can go from creep to go go go, more so if auto hold is engaged, as that requires a tap of pedal to move. I hardly ever put it into neutral at lights, the auto hold, and foot off, or on the brake. I guess if I got hit and ended up stepping on the accelerator I’d be in a world of pain. I see Karoq as smaller than Oct and Kodak as big, if not bigger than a superb. The modern petrol turbos are a bit of a mind bender. SWMBO 1.0l focus estate pootles along quite nicely and with a bit of planning even over takes hints on a roads. I know it bends you mind seeing a kodiaq with a 1.5l engine… how, what… Give it a big hill, 4 up and the boot full, you might notice it, although probably not in the DSG form as it will keep the chug chugging
