  1. You can rebuild the tandem pump with new seals and a gasket, change the oil and voila. You're catastrophising about the rest, unless the bearings are audible then there's no reason to suspect the worst.
  2. Does manually unlocking the car and holding the key in that position cause the power windows to all open, then locking and holding cause them all to close?
  3. Just fit the new lock before the door gets deadlocked permanently, you'll be in a whole new world of hurt if that happens and we won't be able to help you.
  4. Compare and contrast the RPM that 125NM comes in at, high revs on the petrol engine means the gearbox is splashing oil about enthusiastically when it's under the greatest load. A manual gearbox specifically designed for a high-torque low RPM diesel engine would use a different type of oil and have a functionally higher oil level, this is not cost effective in most automotive applications and early gearbox failures on the diesel variants are often the result, in fact it's commonplace on many small city cars with diesel engines due to packaging constraints. Most of the Fabia SDI's on here will have had at least one gearbox failure by now, secondhand gearboxes are getting very rare indeed as one recent poster remarked. Coincidence?
  5. Definitely sounds like the clutch needs bleeding, what you're effectively having to do is pump the pedal once before it will disengage properly.
  6. Why don't you get the tyres fixed so they stay properly inflated for a start.
  7. Yeah, 80's mineral gearbox oil no bueno. There are hundreds of millions of cars on the road which have never had the gearbox oil touched. Modern engineering tolerances combined with superior lubricants mean it isn't necessary. Never confuse facts with belief, faith, unqualified opinion or whatever else is traded on the internet in place of facts.
  8. No more BHP without a remap dude, diesels don't work like petrols.
  9. Why are you removing all the emissions control equipment? You'll just fail every MOT, belch stinking filth everywhere and gain absolutely nothing in return. I don't understand.
  10. The lifetime gearbox fill is not even oil, it is a fully synthetic splash lubrication fluid with a comprehensive additive pack containing detergents, anti-oxidation, anti-foam, anti-shear agents among numerous other components, it is carefully formulated and comprehensively engineered and tested to provide reliable lubrication for the lifetime of the gearbox. What I'm telling you is professional scientific fact, not amateur guesswork or opinion. It turns black because there are sulphur compounds in the additive pack which become sulphides and it is these that smell and make it look dirty. It's still clean of course because it's sealed and dirt cannot get in. These are facts, like I said it doesn't hurt to change the oil but it's totally unnecessary.
  11. They are lifetime fill because gearbox oil does not suffer from thermal cycling, condensation and contamination like engine oil does. Changing it of course does no harm but is really a waste of time and money, just topping up is all that's needed.
  12. Unless the oil level is low then we're dealing with the placebo effect here, just top it up, the linkage reset is most likely to cure the issue.
  13. Yes of course, disconnect the battery and call an auto electrician before you set fire to the car.
  14. Sounds like you have a serious short circuit somewhere and you need to find it before you start replacing burnt out parts.
  15. Short to ground is usually the fault detected when water interferes with the current path, this can be due to condensation buildup in the brushless motor circuitry or in the power connector or even a cracked fuse.
  16. Not expensive, it's probably sealant rather than a gasket anyway, get it done at the same time as an oil change to save money.
  17. Yes those gaps are normal, yes you have an oil leak from the sump gasket.
  18. They're different fuses, you'll need to swap the 5A for a 15A.
  19. As stated you probably have the original key on the ring with the new one so the immobiliser transponder is struggling with range since it isn't in the ignition.
  20. Sheesh, more goth lipstick for the pig...
  21. It isn't, most diesels are around 80 degrees. Yes lean burn engines run much hotter although the coolant is only a bit hotter due to different radiator sizes and pump flow rates. The problem here is that there is no problem. OP is worrying about nothing, a nice cool AQW will not suffer HGF. IIRC I fitted a special low temperature thermostat to my VR6, 78 degrees I think, it ran much better as a result anyway.
  22. What I can say for certain is that these dumb smartphone apps are making people think their car has a problem when it doesn't. It's becoming increasingly common frankly and we're starting to get these stupid rambling threads full of red herrings when the OP's car is running just fine. If the 1.4 AQW ran as hot as modern tackle then it would blow its HG so it's a good thing it doesn't.
