  1. lighter thinner springs is not about counter acting the weight increase of modern cars, its about cost reduction. thinner springs use less materials thus are cheaper. plus thinner "eco friendly" cheaper paint. also if the OP's mechanic bought cheap springs to do the replacement - unfortunately this is what happens
  2. definitely immobiliser.. do you have a second key, and does that one also have the same issue?
  3. as above, that sounds like a load of absolutely BS. .
  4. this just popped up on my tiktok feed.. 47c5daa144e34cbaa92a50f122baea94.mp4
  5. good jezus this derailed quickly after a revival!
  6. who will act like Rick and morty fans to people who dont like it - " you just dont understand the complexity of the design". No, i do, i just think its asinine and i dont like it...
  7. its almoat like they took the feedback on the massive m3 grill to heart and said " well fine, if you dont like that, then we wont do it again... here take THIS instead, is it small enough for ye fussy feckers?"
  8. skoda sales aren't droppig because of advertising budget its because the value is no longer in them as new cars - pricing over here is getting pretty close to vw / audi money for similar platformed cars, and people will buy the based spec "premium brand" if there isnt much extra outlay for a perceived better quality vehicle (badge snobbery)
  9. i have a feeling its a mk3, theres no buttons in my mk2 between the front of the gearstick and the ashtray/cubby... there is on a mk3 though.. no bonus buttons on a normal mk3 either though, so its definitely a user addon for the front mounted machine guns. check for mounting rails behind the front grill, might be still there
  10. 6 yrs old and not used much possibly it is suffering an existential crisis but... if the warranty claims to cover the battery and its still under said warranty then id be having another slightly less polite conversation about it .
  11. family woodland walk on sunday, spud jr was chatting about how tall the trees are, managed to sneak this before they moved. nearly got it perfect (if the tree top was in it too) but not bad for the 2seconds of setup time i had!
  12. fyi for anyone else looking, turn your steering on a full left hand lock, and on the passenger side clean the dirt off the end of the front ARB. the colour dot marking can be seen there to identify which one you have. im on a blue, thus the front bushes are a BJ suffix. jacked up a back wheel to try the same on the rear arb, but couldnt seen enough to find a part number sticker or marking on it, so will need to get the axle stands under it and try again. i was at work on my lunch having the first look so not enough tine or gear to go under looking..
  13. if you heard a snap, its mostly likely the regulator guide. ttheres a thread on how to do check ut and replace the whole thing here somewhere
  14. okay, i cant see any of those codes on the build sticker... so, ill have to go underneath later or tomorrow and see if i can see any markings or part numbers
  15. yup, should be an easy bolt on job
  16. Youve done the test and got the correct answer - its the maf. get a new genuine one, not any aftermarket ones, as the engine doesnt like non original sensors
  17. thanks @Carlston appreciate that little nugget, will have a look in the morning
  18. im hijacking this for a related question... arb bushes... how do i know whcich part number i need for front and rear?? without climbing underneath and searching.. theres at least 3 options on each end! cayc 1.6cr saloon...
  19. i have a 2013 1.6 105bhp cayc. i dont k ow if its had the fix, but probably as i got from the local skoda dealer. have it nearly 4.5yrs now, and ive had no major issues. about once every 4months on average, if i go from motorway cruise to stopped (toll) to hard launch back up to speed i might get the coil light flashing at me until i restart, but it doesnt affect performance. other than that its been the usual breaky stuff like a window regulator, bearings, and it got a new rear caliper when i was buying it.
  20. seventeen and a half grand for a saxo????? you can tell im shocked by writing that in word form. i learned to drive (officially ) in a 2000 reg 1litre saxo. i wasnt experienced to care about it being under powered, but everything else about it was awful. i had 3 pairs of shoes i couldnt wear while driving it because they were too wide - id either clip the accelerator or my left foot on clutch while braking. the gear box was nasty in so many ways and the clutch bite. all the plastics felt weird (as in cheaper than even a seat of the same era) even allowing for it being vts and mint i dont get how a car so (imo) hateful can get such a high price!
  21. i still just have mine pulled back in and tucked into a small gap between 2 overlapping pieces of metal framing to hold them in (both side are gone ). couldnt really see a way of getting enough contact surface to stick them back securely and not have it look a bit ****e
  22. @john999boy could you shorten the thread title to the first sentence and "engine replacement / head gasket options?" its a bit long at the minute i would agree with Gaz though, get it skimmed, and while its off check the cylinder/piston etc condition and see how it all looks. getting another engine, youd end uo stripping it for piece of mind anyway.
  23. so i got out for my first post incident run last Wednesday, it was as described- horrible but all things considered not bad i suppose. got out again Monday night, accidentally did a 10k by reversing the route and tagging on the high ground loop.. "last" 4.5k were downhill but in darkness.. thank god id stuck a torch in my pocket.. it was hard, but didnt feel as nasty as the previous one. no long evenings left though... sample of the view below, though i promise i could see more than the video would have you thinking, its a great demo of how crap the light sensor on phone camera actually is.. 20220822_213324.mp4
  24. probably not because of increased risk of doctoring/altering the information if a soft copy issued
