  1. last night i had to go drop my nephew back to his girlfriends place. i drove to the pick up, dropped 20miles up the road, sat chatting with him for about 15mins (hadnt had a decent conversation in months/yrs) then drove home. no issues at any time. then suddenly when i stopped at traffic lights about 5mins from home, the idle started almost chugging like it was missing a cylinder. sounded like it drove ok the last bit home, as long as the revs didnt drop under 1500. no eml came on and no error message on the maxidot. its booked in with a mechanic on Wednesday for a service and getting all my front suspension replaced, but between now and then where should i start having a look this morning for obvious stuff? im 50/50 about driving it anywhere today or tomorrow. bank holiday today and i can probably sort getting to a work meeting with a colleague tomorrow morning so i can work around it if driving it might cause any bigger issue.
  2. sounds like a load of *******s to me...
  3. is it the starter motor? iirc there was similar squeely noises on other members' cars from the starter motor clutch.
  4. theres plenty other places on a mk1 that will be very wet before the pollen filter gets it
  5. IF it isnt the immobiliser (and theres a strong case fir it to be this) i would be looking at a bad earth somewhere after the loom work was done.
  6. as above, you need a diverter valve not a dump valve. forge 007p(iirc) with the right spring seems to work very well. and it would need reconfiguring of the map, its going to be looking for exhaust pressure readings that arent there with a straight through exhaust. (and hope you dont sniffed out or heard by your local LEA... )
  7. up Mahon Falls today with the family... sun shine, knockin about 18-20deg... of course we need to sample to gravel... view up the valley meanwhile last weekend... the men went trailblazing in a new woods wed never gone to before.
  8. shout out to @Breezy_Pete for the help i should be able to get meself sorted now
  9. other bits to go with it according to 7zap also - bump stop 1k0412303B dust cover 6N0413175A thrust bearing 6N0412249C top mount 1K0412331B why is it always such a dose trying to pick the correct set up...
  10. right, i need to do the front shocks and springs on Donkey 2, and have got the following from looking on the car - springs driver side check 1 violet 1 orange 1 blue. translates to 1K0411105AQ on 7zap, but then on a parts website they all say its not compatible and give a different list of options when i do the "reg lookup check". driver side strut 1K0412021JP. this doesnt seem to exist as a part number?? so, has someone changed these previously with wrong springs??
  11. ha! yeah, we have a few real vintages around too. and several bodykitted early 00's is200's... i try not to weight them too heavy in the average though
  12. i live in a small estate of 23 houses. nearly every house has 2 cars. my cul de sac within the estate has 2016 320d & 2016 Cooper SD 2018 yaris and 2015 vivaro (business van) 2014 s class 2019 tiguan & 2021 partner (company van) 2016 yaris & 2019 courier 2013 octy & 2020 Arona (me) 2015 Jazz 2022 corolla & 2009 Rio saloon. the above is about the average across the estate, there a 2008 focus diesel, a 2009 E class, a 2009 golf, 2019 lexus rx suv, a 2020 c class, 2022 santa fe.. even an old transporter van (cant remember the age). take the town over all approx 30k people and id say the average around 2014 - 2018. alot of pcp buy outs if i was to guess.
  13. move farther out from the house so your not getting the light gathering off the gutters into the shot as that will wash out some of the other celestial light sources nae bad at all though
  14. the sensation of touching velour and velvet actually gives me the shivers, like nails on a blackboard and i mean genuinely, not just in the way people say that because of a memory of bad experiences, i mean my nervous system has a meltdown on contact
  15. i presume youve checked the tyre for debris stuck in a tread?
  16. hello! poor Cooper has a sore leg? the brake tap making it go kinda sounds like theres something catching? is it a tap tap tap or a clunk? could be a roll bar bush starting to show wear and mrs aspman is just so tuned in to the noises the car makes shes noticed early
  17. Crashed during Rally Croatia testing 😞 https://www.rte.ie/sport/motorsport/2023/0413/1376792-waterford-rally-driver-breen-dies-in-crash/
  18. that is a properly lovely car ive o ly ever sat in one, while picking out our wedding car, waaaaay back when i was a brisky n00b its really on my list of "space and money no object, what would i drive" cars
  19. ii i was designing it id be thinking submissions might get initial scanning by an AI trained to detect offenses within a certain set of learned parameters. these would then be flagged for human verification and action. or, it will be outsourced to a massive warehouse full of cheap labour (perhaps asylum seekers who have been flown to rwanda ... ooo political....) to look at, filter and flag for follow up.
  20. i cant remember, as i havnt worked on the door internals of a fabia first hand. only had my mk1 octy apart a few times, but i imagine theyre not that different. its the tension of the outer handle is pretty critical, gotta count the little thread grooves before and after
  21. cable tension needs to be pretty much exactly the same as it was before, or it wont release the larch mechanism properly
  22. as above, and get a can of ez start... dose it through the intake, might just give enough volatility to kick off a reaction... start with the easy fixes
  23. yeah, thats about the smell i was expecting... MOT expired 822 days ago
  24. whats it looking like on the inside/ under the bonnet? i feel like i can smell it from where im sitting
  25. as above, reupholstering is slow and expensive. much easier do an interior swap...
