  1. @Gissin thanks for the links. shame they are all all sold out in all sizes but gives a good idea on price range. id seen ragley on a couple of site alright, so may be worth more of a look.
  2. just looked up the 801 v3 little over a grand sterling.. so probably 1200 here plus the "eire mark up" and tax to make about €1500 😂 We are starting to open nonessential retail again so ill be trying to get to the 2 local bike shops, see what the crack is. must also look into the "cycle to work" tax relief scheme, i could cycle to my nearest depot if i wanted...
  3. what do people think of Kona? reviews semm decent? https://konaworld.com/mahuna.cfm
  4. and another beautiful morning on the hills... did nearly the full circuit of the top of the christmas tree walk, then broke a down a tree trail rather than the fire break. i need a bike with shocks dumped me out a good bit farther from home than usual, but still a 13k route in under 56mins, so im happy
  5. and even if it did turn off, it would probably use more power calculating in the background anway than whats used to display and update. definitely a drain elsewhere if there is an issue
  6. good news is the warp wasnt actually as bad as i thought. the axle nut had also loosened just enough to have it a bit weavy under load. and the warp was only the side wall of the rim. so, a quick straighten (ish) and tighten up of everything and it was alright this morning went the west side from The Cross today, down the fire break i had my off on last week. good blast, despite the wind abd the misty rain nice thing about alpkit leggings - rinsed em off in the shower before peeling them off, and theyl be dry and ready for tomorrow morning
  7. thats kinda where im looking tbh, under a grand... and after reading some reviews im liking the look of - https://www.mbr.co.uk/reviews/hardtail/voodoo-bizango i figure anything that scores a 10 and only loses marks for not having wider handle bars... well, im a slight 5'6 so and on a quick measure 720mm feels fine for me. getting the cost down on the main bike then give a bit freedom to upgrade a few bits later if i want.
  8. okay, so its just more rear gearing means its unnecessary. cool.
  9. okay, i have to ask... why are all the bikes gone single chain ring on the front?
  10. thread hijack! i realised last night that the rock i hit yesterday morning and what i though was just the rear axle pushed off line and the tyre rubbing on the fork is actually a minor warp in the rim rubbing on the fork 🤦‍♂️ may try to bring it around straighter later in the immediate term, short term ill probably get a new wheel ordered up. but longer term given ive moved to off road pedalling and the bike is quite old (30ish yrs) and a fully fixed frame im going to treat myself to a new one for my birthday in August. so, given the neew pedalling regime is a couple of k o. road to get to the hills, where its then fire breaks and literal rock fields on the sides of hills (like the one thats done the damage)¥9¥)¥¥ do i go hard tail and over size tyres or full suspension and regular tyres. would the rear suspension reduce the risk of buckles more than the over size tyres, or is it u likely to make a difference. ive read all the "hardtails are faster with less effort" stuff online, but given im doing the cycling for the cardio as much as the fun i dont necessarily mind the extra effort needed if its more beneficial... thanks guys
  11. went for it today... and suceeded in getting up Long Hill coming East from The Cross. strava time is abit misleading, i paused for a minute to check my directions after the last day i thought id made it but was short, and forgot to unpause 🤦‍♂️ total time was actually 1hr 15mins. nice view too and im a local legend on a hill climb segmwnt, which really means im the only dope who keeps pedalling up it
  12. there mustve been something in the air today, bits of last nights meteor shower perhaps?
  13. headed out early today, and made it to The Cross with enough tome to extend the journey. so i headed a bit Sth West to get over the peak of the hill The Cross is actually on. then dropped down the west face into the woods "Christmas tree walk". it was fun, cutting down a fire break trail. then i got a bit misplaced, thought i was gone wrong so while keeping an eye out for where i should be aiming for stayed pedalling, and braking heavily on the steep bits i learned something today too... apparently instinctive reflex manoeuvres stay with you into adulthood if you spend long enough doing it as a kid building muscle memory. front wheel gained traction on a decline while hard braking and up i went, and time slowed down.. the 10millisecond decision to attempt a doomed rescue (gauranteed face plant) or ditch was made without direct brain involvement, and i just tucked and rolled in a beautiful "rolling breakfall" @e-Roottoot should know what i mean . straight back uo grabbed bike checked it over and continued on. my helmet didnt even touch the ground. my first proper "Off" in about 25 yrs 🤣 view from on high
  14. Stick it in N, handbrake on. on the occasions i have driven autos, and now with swmbo's dsg arona, thats what i do if im gonna be sitting for more than about 10seconds. its really not going to "slow you down" when moving off. also pretty sure anything else is a marking down on a driving test, even for an automatic license.
  15. jesus Ken, bit tetchy.... i too am a 5ft 6in lad, but i have the seat down abit from the top, and sit bent elbow (on door handle) it seems stupid, but shoes can make a difference too. in my trainers that i wear travelling i sit 2 notches closer than if i hop in with my work boots still on travelling between locations. the lumbar support in my mk2 octy does nothing.. ive driven from home (clonmel) to belfast, then cairnryan to east glasgow, and return home in 36hrs round trip (about 600miles ish) home to home and been comfy the whole time. ive done 40mile journeys in work vans and been stiff for an hour after it.
  16. well the weather yesterday was absolutely abysmal, so i went nowhere.. sun shining bright today, so up, out and up the cross again, but... with my 1 extra gear.. i had a crack at pedalling the rock trail to the top, had to dismount for one really steep 50yd bit, as the rocks are too loose, so i tried to use the peaty, grassy bit to side, but the back tyre just lost traction so i had to bounce off for a minute. but i did the rest on the bike
  17. sorry @J.R., i meant the chain wasnt staying on the biggest rear sprocket, slipping back down to the next one when i release the twist shift. it was also trying to come off the bottom, smallest sprocket, like it was over derailling. so i fiddled until i got the big sprocket (priority) but now the small one is gone. i just need to fuddle some more, and get it right. @UndertheRadar yeah Lidl were meant to have the stands about 3 weeks ago, and our local one never got any 🤬
  18. ill need to re check, but i tightened, loosened, fiddled.. got nowhere ill give it another go later today if i have time. given the move toward hill climbing anyway, its not going to be a major inconvenience for a while to figure it out.
  19. have you considered that maybe you have an underlying issue that the car exacerbates? sciatica for example? have you tried some daily yoga to stretch everything out? im going to assume you have a desk based job youve been doing from home, so you may just need to make some time each day to counteract the effects of sitting for ages.
  20. tackled the bigger hill at 715am. i thought... The Guardians of the Glen allowed me to reach the summit. thats the view back to the Cross. i came over from there. then i got home, proud as **** of myself. until i stopped strava, and looked at the map. the proper summit is another 100m climb over another 800m. dammit. get it the next day
  21. panorama overview of the entire borough area the stile is where the gate is at the bottom of the final trail to the top. i made it the whole to the gate this morning! 4mins faster to the top than monday mornings first ever attempt. . 26m 48sec. met a guy walking back down at the stile "did you cycle the whole way up?" yeah, fkin tough! "jaysus fair play to ya, you look fresh enough after it." i fairly well dont feel fresh! "are you goin all the way?" yup, ill push the bike from here, the trail is too rocky to pedal it, then roll the whole way down "haha, good man, enjoy the last bit to the top" home, but dropped back down on the other approach route, to see what thats like. looks to be a 15% gradient.. the whole way up!!! sod that.not a hope of keeping moving on it.
  22. havnt really looked at it ever tbh. but doesnt surprise me about it either, given how many horror stories there have been with people getting caught out and ebay having to intervene in a legal quagmire.
  23. visibly raining up the cross hill when i went this morning. so.. set a new pb on the 20k riverside route. wouldve been a littke quicker too except i got stuck behind a garda van going through town and couldnt safely go round them, and then got stuck at traffic lights... wouldve made it through on the first green if the squad hadnt been mooching along all feckin slow
  24. jezus george, this thread pre dates me joining by 16 months!!
