  1. covered in muck, couldnt fecking see far enough ahead and getting hit the face with al sorts of gack on the ground to try and get the speed up on downhills.. legs were knackered after a crap night sleep, to the point where i confirmed the derailleur needs to be fine tuned.. i was on the biggest ring already and tried to change up, chucking the chain over the top of the cassette 🤦‍♂️ got caught on a spoke tryin to get it back... and then it started raining. ended up having to chop it back on the route to not be mad late home.. just un fun. misery. but i have mud guards now!
  2. And so it begins.. just did my first mods - mudguards. funnily enough a constant spray of atomising grass, rain, mud, stone chips, sheep and rabbit ****e into my face this morning made things feel more uncomfortable than the rain already was. so, a phone call to the local bike shop was made and i called in this afternoon. the post-mounted one isnt fully attached, need to knot the o rings to tighten them up, and make sure im happy with the position first, and that it isnt going to slide around the place on the frame. also got 2 Presta - Shrader adapters. given im guaranteed to lose one of them! if i get a chance tomorrow im going to look at the derailleur adjustment, get that little 11tooth back in the game properly.
  3. day 2 on the new bike. i titled this ride "me arse" because my arse bones were sore when i hopped on. saddle is a lot harder than the air cushion padded one my dad had put on the old bike, so id not had sore hole issues prior to today! other than that, all good again, though sweaty and wet in the rain that started and never stopped. though i copped i think the derailleur needs a teeny adjustment. its not quite getting to the little 11tooth ring. its dropping onto it, but then a couple of revolutions later its sliding back up to the next one. may help explain why i dont feel like i have the same flat speed. i also need mud guards.. and a skinny tyre valve adapter for my pump. and spare tubes...
  4. hopefully none i cant afford to lose any.. i need to get back building muscle now the cardio side of things is on the improved list.
  5. okay, so i have to adjust to the new bike, will take a couple of runs id say.. even just the handle bars being about 25% wider, thumb shifters and brakes that stop like anchors. not gonna say it was easier peddle up the road section, as the tyres definitely make more drag, but it wasnt really any longer to get up the top, as the rough stuff was easier to bump over on the rough trail. also down a bit on speed on flat/ asphalt sections, without the x3 crank set, ill work on pedal speed to make up for it, but dont want to look a prat either, pedalling at 2000rpm and going nowhere but ill adjust. the extra downhill rough stuff ability is enough to balance out the loss in speed else where. delighted with the bike, and once i get it just right itll be brilliant
  6. given i now have a decent bike, i think i can post in this thread sometimes too maiden voyage of my first proper off road bike
  7. The Debut run.. same location as Emmie's Retirement photos on Saturday morning. need to get used to the new feel of... everything but its lovely, brakes that stop, traction in the wet grass, so much smoother downhill with the bigger tyres and a shock absorber! not as fast on the flat without the 3x on the crank end though, but ill get over that
  8. slight upgrade 🤪 no, its not the distance.. the andlebars are a solid 6inches wider than the old one... itll take a couple of goes to adjust i think... as for the braking, just around the garden... holy god its like dropping an achor compared to the old cable rim brakes. dropper post is also nice and the schwalbe tyres feel huge i think ill be happy up the hills Monday morning
  9. must go through the bag o goodies that i got with it later. manuals, warranty, receipts etc. and the little mini tool kit that came with the bike for setup. guy i got it off seems to be really into his biking, only reason he sold was... he bought it from a guy at 2months old who used it twice and realised it didnt suit his cycling. but my guy found out after getting to use it 3 times that he cant cycle it - he has cartilage damage in his knee, so had to get a e-mtb. my money from today is going into upgrading that. price new was around 1400-1500, us the pedals, grips, saddle, handlebar and floating disc brakes. i paid him 950
  10. proper post purchase impressions will follow later, and then a review of it once i get it out on a trail. been gone for so much of the day, moving it to the shed is as much riding as itll see today 😅 might give it a wipe down after its transport tonight, and for covid shared surface transmission reasons. but, a photo of it beside its great grandad - its a very different beast ill try and get the seat post height dialled in tomorrow, and if i get a chance do a lap of the block to settle in on the brakes (floating disc upgrade also done) and the feel of the gear shifters and stuff. ill figure out the rebound setting too, and then dial that in on the trail monday
  11. eeeeeeeeee Vitus Sentier 27 VR 2020 spec with nukeproof pedals grip and handle bar, and dropper post. sweet..
  12. Retirement Portrait for Emmelle last trip up the hill under me this morning
  13. alternator clutch maybe?
  14. bearing tends to be wheel speed dependent rather than engine speed though, resonating louder at particular speed multiples. it could be just something stuck behind a brake cover, or it could something deeper.
  15. first cycle of July... legs felt dead this morning after a not great nights sleep, missed yesterday aswell, so fingers crossed ill get out tomorrow morning to make up for it, then get the shopping done and go pick up something nice for myself my June stats popped up. god that week i missed made a difference! im nearly at this exercising craic a full year... i will celebrate the anniversary by running my original 5k route
  16. half way through reading the post i was reckoning washer pump. same as mk1s....
  17. pick up is arranged for 2pm on Saturday at nigh on the other end of the country. i will photgraph the new arrival prior to transport home so, about 1415-1430hrs Saturday you will see what ive gone and done.
  18. that would ruin the surprise
  19. that sounds filthy..... when exactly does it happen as you pull away? is it worse if you pull away uphill? does it happen if pulling away downhill only on the idle?
  20. sounds like a split pipe alright losing boost
  21. deal done on a bike. its a surprise until i can pick it up on Saturday. 5hr round trip drive to get it, but..... im excited
  22. might be sorted... will update later
  23. that will have been the B ) you put on have you tried connecting another phone to the BT? and the phone to another BT? just in case theres a general issue with either? can happen. @Rustynuts is very good with the HUnits, so probably has some advice too
  24. i pretty much have that done in my head no particular order - sentier vr roscoe 7 stoic 3 all in or around the same spec and money, just need something to pop up as actually purchasable which seems to be a challenge. size medium.... even most of the second handers (very few...) are all large or XL, which are too big for my little 5ft7" in shoes body..
