Mac's Running Diary - edit jan '21 cycling too - edit jan 23 back @ circuit training,
well its ****ing rain again, but i got out and back before it started. horrible out now. anyhoo..... had a hard pedal up the hill, amazing what a week off hill climbing does! legs were nuked at the top. then i turned west up the rear peak and across to the playground - woods. stayed off the firebreaks though, theyll just be a swamp likely to throw me into a tree.. but i tagged on some extra trail distance, found the other way out, and got a nice highspeed run down the road toward home. if it wasnt wet i couldve gone a bit faster down it, but when any given puddle could be a massive pothole.... i may be leaving my overjacket at home next morning though, or just bringing it around my waist in case i get cold, it was bloody sweaty today!

yeah, i spose its that thing of "best seller" doesnt necessarily mean a best product, just that lots of people buy them. the Trek Roscoe 7 looks a decent spec and is in/around max budget, but no room really to add an upgrade for a while.

where do Trek and Giant rank these days? assuming sram/shimano and a decent fork

bit of a mixed bag of weather this morning, so wimped out and went the tarmac river side small puddles, rather than the big mud holes up the hills. gonna be nasty up there for a few days i reckon. anyway, it was a grand 20k pedal by the river, in 50mins followed by a nice shower a mnd a day of working from home.

A Leap Of Faith :)
no, came close to buying one though... ive got 2 octy and a citigo from them. changed the citigo recently, but the only karoq they had was a manual and swmbo had a driven a dsg seat Arona before it, so that won out... cant fault the lads in RMP, i drove Olly a bit mad buyin the second octy off him, tempting him with wads of crispy fresh 50s from various pockets to gwt him down on the price 😂 and the service side is 100% too

just had a look at that... ouch.. one thing that seems to stand to me is all the yrs of martial arts training i just instinctively accept im ****ed go with it and go into fall protection reflex mode.. the rolling avoids any sudden impact which is what causes major injurys. that and luck... rolling across rocks isnt fun.. mud over them at least cushions it a bit..

no cycle today... alarm went off and for the first time ages the forecast was accurate.. high winds and absolutely torrential rain falling. it woke me twice during the night as well... parts of the garden are flooded, and the trampoline is getting close to doubling as a paddling pool. @Gaz eek... tendon damage or a break?

well yesterdays trip through all the roots humping the bike over them, trying to not fall over sliding along them etc took its toll. me lower back was aching going to bed. got up to a stiff tired back and a$$. do took it handy and blitzed the flat riverside for a gentle one instead. did my 20k route almost a full minute faster than last time i did it about 3/4 weeks ago. all the hill training is paying off. was still knacketed and sweaty gettin in but i pushed hard the whole way, no freewheeling!

Hello @Mick-Cork im not a billion miles away alright. though, Wesht Cork is a big auld area of brilliant and terrible roads... roughly where in the west are you? and what dealer did you go with? 100miles away depends alot on where youre starting im in Clonmel, for reference

thanks, that big ass climb is now my normal starter. the first 2k is a fairly poor tarmac road, then onto a washed out rock fest trail to the top. followed by a mix of rocky field track and mossy grass until i get across to woodland - gravel access, stony track and rooty firebreaks.. i do a bit of everything now! flat road biking just seems dull now!

Death of a Fabia
@J.R. he was turning right, the momentum of the swing will have carried it. air resistance at low speed like that is negligible. and yeah, those steel doors are chunky.. and the locking bar may have caught on the inside of the hatch thus it dragging it out into the road and spinning it. really very lucky noone was seriously injured.

thats down to the number of mamils one sees on the roads here, esp of a weekend. pods of lads in full TdF/Giro gear, who seem to think they are the tour peleton, even though not one of them would win a childrens bike race they tend to upgrade their equipment alot and want to be seen in their top end gear by everyone else, coz dey iz da cool guyz... they dont realise most people think theyre just muppets needlessly clogging up the road refusing to make space for traffic

Mac's Running Diary - edit jan '21 cycling too - edit jan 23 back @ circuit training,
i went East from The Cross today. and made a trail selection mistake to get down from the top of Long Hill on the East side.... ended up having to follow the fence line of a load of sheep fields full of ickle new lambs, so could cross them, id have spooked way too many of them, so ended up misplaced, half way down the hill heading the long way West. ended up at a forest block i can see from my house, with no way through had to go around it. ended up ducking turned on ( as i found out..) electric fences and walking my bike politely across the front yard of someones newly built house tothe road... dirty. in the plus side though... from the valley between the cross up to long hill summit - theres only been 49 logged attempts, but i dont care the average gradient is also misleading.. its pretty flat for some it along the top, but its about 20% for the bulk of the climb, had to push a chunk of it, losing traction on the gravel and stones.

help finding a new bike
https://www.donedeal.ie/bicycles-for-sale/mountain-bike/27989634 what do we think on the spec? had a look earlier and a new Talon is around €1100. it also comes with a higher spec Raidon fork. most of the new ones are on xct/xcr forks. the tektro brakes i havnt looked into, and sram gearing seems to be equal ish to shimano, but both could be upgrades.. its a size small, but by all the size guides, that or a medium should be fine for my little 5'6 10stone(wet) body. could be worth a message at least..

Mac's Running Diary - edit jan '21 cycling too - edit jan 23 back @ circuit training,
oh it was foggy.. thats the same photo i took yesterday.. but no matter, i stretched the route a bit more - 13.7k in bang on 1 hr. and got 3 more climbs onto it. full lap of the woods and then down the firebreak. the fact i came off the bike again on the fire break, tucking and rolling, but also sliding about 15ft on my back made it a little less pleasant for a minute. the slight swelling and light abrasion on my lower back from the tree root i slid over makes it tad less comfortable now. but fk it. i got up, got back on said "£@%@%@"# mud hole!" and carried on. i havnt fallen off an bike since i was 10, and ive fallen off twice in a week as a 37yr old 🤦♂️
