  1. if the belt goes its a potentially (quite likely) destroyed engine...
  2. from a 15second google i found this - Apparently it's some old British standard (related to the packaging, not the bulb itself), 477 and 499 are both identical H7. personally i have liked Osram Nightbreakers the last few yrs, though i currently have a set of philips extremes in. havnt gotten to see what they are like for proper night driving yet though. historically from experience around this forum the Osrams tended to have better life than the ohilips, though the guy in the parts shop assured me the newer philips ones have improved a lot. . they better given the higher price!
  3. when was the belt done last? top of my head the skoda recommended change on the 1.9 was 1st 100,000miles / 5years 2nd, 3rd etc at 40,000 / 4yrs so your 2004 would be 2009, 2013, 2017,2021 based on age. mileage may vary this though.
  4. iirc there is a little plastic barb at the end of aerial where it goes into the base. it squeezes in and the aerial slots into base then it springs out inside the base to stop it coming back out. thats the anti theft. you literally need to just pull it Nd will likely break that tab off doing so. if your replacing it with a fin though, im pretty sure you get the whole thing off inc the base in one go? pull down the headlining and undo the nut. then disconnect the wires from the base. then attach wires to new fin base, put in your fin in make sure the seal is a good fit or use some sealant if in doubt and do up the nut nice and tight.
  5. hes not up to no hands yet the stabilisers are still on the back. Only got it mid summer, but havnt had the weather to do much other than around our estate since, where the amount of turning needed would hide any alignment issue. ill have a good look at it later, see if theres anything obvious.
  6. is there a knack / tool / technique i can use to check and adjust the wheel alignment on spud srs 16in fixed frame bike? i have a feeling its off even though it looks pretty good by eye. noticed he was drifting left a lot yesterday on the cycle track which made no sense as its cambered the other way for drainage. then when i was walking it back up, before shouldering it, it felt like it was drifting again and was doing a lot more correcting than i felt i should have needed. so whats the best way to check the frame and wheels are square and tracking straight??
  7. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 so i went for an attempted 5k yesterday with spud sr on his bike. ended up walking about half of the 4.7k we logged but carrying his bike on my shoulder so still counts. it was a slower than normal run... this morning was horrible. junior woke at 2330, 0215 and then at 445am... a bottle and a settle later i wasnt going back to sleep.. it was 605am. so i geared up and left at around 625am.. it was freeeeezing cold, damp, nasty and being sleep deprived and sore legs from the cold.. anyway, i pushed hard and did... 11.5km in almost an exact one hour. the hills on the lap of our block at the end made it really disgusting.
  8. check the cable harness from the driver door to the A pillar. look for any wear/splits/ crushing etc. disconnect its connectors and check the pins for corrosion. if you have a multi meter continuity check all the wires. repeat this on the harness going to the door with the open window. check the relay itself in case its sticking. and then... get the door card off, and apply 12v directly to the rear window motor. if it spins that narrows you fault options, and you can close the window. if it doesnt the motor is failed.
  9. has the thermostat been changed? if its on the original cambelt and esp water pump after 11yrs even at low mileage they need replacing anyway due to age related deterioration. the pump is probably knackered anyway, but its also a good place to start leak finding. there and the obvious - radiator cracks.
  10. /\ Dean is 90% correct. swap the wires to maintain a permanent live for radio memory, but also get an antenna amplifier to fit on the harness or you can have trouble with am/fm signal being very weak. the amp is built into the standard headunit, so the upgraded unit will need the inline booster. cost very little and easy fit. may also need an antenna plug adapter depending on the unit you get
  11. mk1 octavias have the same problems. 50/50 its water getting in the connector and corroding the pins (which the grease trick would help with) or the wires fraying in the bellows from rubbing on each other or pulling apart.
  12. just used the segment thing on strava if i do a lap of the block we live on which has a horrible hill on it it, i can push to 11.5k. 16 of them plus today puts me at 194k. so if i do 3 of them plus a 10k a week that 188, and 3 weekend 5ks ill clear it. may do the 5k by bringin spud sr for a riverside path cycle..
  13. horrible damp2 degree cold this morning at 635am. woke at 440, back to sleep.. 515am..spud jr woke.. so a bottle and a resettle then geared up and headed out. so quiet and peaceful, if the cloud had broken for the nearly full moon and a drier crispy cold it would have been lovely. 4th 10k this week, first of the new year, only 6hrs 8mins left to log for supersapiens. i realised though on route that im shagged for the 200km jan total - theres only 17 scheduled running days in jan (mon, tue, thu, fri) which will leave me 30k short! so im going to have to get tactical and increase my distance a bit more, maybe pull a sneaky couple of weekend 5ks aswell. also got my 2020 strava stats (only nov and dec as i didnt use it before that..). it adds up quickly when you total it up. dont know about prior to that, will have to check fitbit, and then add on the pre fit bit runs too to see what i did since July.
  14. 10k this morning... -2degrees, heavy frost, full moon, pre dawn clear sky. slightly slippy paths, but overall not bad. random bag of rubbish in a badly lit section of footpath nearly put me on my face... 51m 25sec. not a bad last run of the year. 2021 Jan challenges start in the morning!!!
  15. nice one. theres loads of monthly challenges too. im on for the 100 and 200km total run in january challenges... the 200 means i have to do 10k every run, 4 times a week for the month.. 😳 its just a nice little pusher to keep the momentum going.
  16. @Aspman's old keyboard...
  17. top comment on the page - Tank12345 14 h, 12 m ago 20 Just expect "While I was fitting your dash cam we noticed that your exhaust/tires/suspension/big end is on the way out and we can fix it for you for just £8000" brilliant not a help tbf, but as one otger guy said can always buy a better camera and use the wiring they do for you and sell their camera on ebay .
  18. first time doing back to back 10k... cold and wet and miserable this morning, and deffo tired legs. by the 7.5k point my quads were really starting to burn. but i may get used to that if im going to complete the supersapiens challenge in january and get into the draw for some free gear! actually, @olduns may be interwated in the strava challenge too - cycling counts too.
  19. well it was e-root posted the pics, not me but they look like a couple of the standard sets. but that ebay link does appear correct yep
  20. no. 54 is a 9pt pointed star. yours is a 9pt flat topped. it isnt in those pics...
  21. what a week... Wed - alarm went off and sound of torrential rain made me stay put.. Thur - i got 90mins sleep courtesy of junior , no way could i run. fri - christmas??? as if. sat - i needed the sleep sun - horrible weather and a broken nights sleep again! today... late start at 705, havnt been out since Tuesday, gonna be horrible... did a 10k. 10010m in 52m 1sec. i surprised myself! esp as i had to change my route a bit when i discovered the river walkway i use for 1 section was flooded from the rain the last few days. i also completed the strava Dec 100km running challenge on route - total for dec (so far) 106.5km not bad considering the weather breaks and post vasectomy break too. i missed the dec 4x4 challenge though (4weeks of 4 sessions min 30mins long) courtesy of too many storm condition breaks. ive signed on to the 7hrs in 14days challenge for January though. at my current pace it means running 8 10k's in a 14 day window to complete. ie 10kon every run.. i sense a hurricane jog in my near future 🤣
  22. yeah its compatible, but over priced in my opinion, and tied to their app. go on ebay and get an elm327 bt dongle for half the price and torque pro.
  23. yes your car is obd2 compatible. im not sure what fixd is? if its a dongle like all the bluetooth ones out there, then check the spec on the device.
  24. my friends response when i told him i had phone mount ordered...
