If you haven't already looked for broken wires between door and body, that's where I would start.

Just shove a link wire in the back of pin 3, linking it to pin 4 with it still plugged in, and it should make the wipers come on at normal speed for as long as the link is there.

XP4, yep. Pin 4 is the output for normal speed, and the intermittent function.

I think this car may predate such a system? @dantwah does the car have tyre pressure monitoring? It ought to set some sort of fault in the ABS module if the error is big enough and happens often enough, but maybe it doesn't meet those criteria.

I think it must be getting bad data from one of the wheel speed sensors. I can't see it being the input for rpm from the crank angle sensor (that would manifest itself in any gear), and as JR has said, the calculation of gear display will be from that and vehicle speed, which I believe is calculated by averaging between some or all of the wheel speed sensors. The error may get bigger with wheel speed, until it reaches a point where the calculation result doesn't make sense to the programming, and it starts displaying wrong info or no info on screen, and cruise is disabled. Try to get someone with VCDS to come for a ride with you and watch/log the outputs of the four wheel speed sensors simultaneously and then see if there is one sensor that starts to show data that diverges from what the others are saying at higher road speeds.

Vehicle speed sensing will be done by the ABS module and wheel speed sensors.

If everything still looks good and is working well, I would say that your best option is to leave it all alone and pat yourself on the back.

Yeah, that's a good call. Always a risk of 'lost in translation'. Are you doing the job on the drive? Do you have a counterhold tool?

Polo manual says this: "2.4 Poly V-belt pulley securing bolt tightening procedure A new securing bolt is being introduced gradually. Use old form until new type of bolt has been introduced. I don't recall seeing that instruction in the equivalent workshop manual for Polo or Fabia, will double check n a bit. I'm sure it will be OK to use the new type, but awkward to do without the car up on a proper overhead lift.

It's certainly true that 150Nm is quite a bit, but it's trying to get the further half turn (180°) that's specified after that that really is hard work and needs long levers. Not sure you'll get an old variant bolt easily though, not sure what its part number might be. I suspect it's been superseded by the new variant, so no longer available new genuine. Aftermarket may be an option though.

Commas are used in place of full stops as decimal separators in many countries worldwide, and the majority of European countries. Economising by Skoda in not having country-specific label variants. Decimal separator - Wikipedia see lists of countries using each variant mid-page.
