  1. Aurora Borealis visible again. This is from Eastbourne, 9:30pm: Gaz
  2. I've only ever had to do one, on my B5 Passat. Psyched myself up for it over a couple of days, and read lots, which just added to my angst. Showed it a hammer, and it all but fell out Gaz
  3. Hello HTC No, 4x4 is not a gimmick. Will it turn into a money pit? who knows 🤷‍♂️ but you can lessen the risk by looking after it properly (as Paws is referring to). I take it you're looking at the 272 TSI with a DSG gearbox. Have you seen this one advertised?: It looks pretty nice to me. I've driven several DSG Superbs this year, all 4x4s, and you can certainly notice the additional traction. It's a want for me though, not a need, so I didn't go for it in the end. Gaz
  4. Agree, but I'm not sure by who. I think @EnterName 's first comment about caution still stands. Not from the fluid as it's a DQ250, so G052 182 is correct, but for the filter and ring as any failure either in the product or installation could be neatly side stepped with a don't look at us, you supplied it. I think there's a difference between '..they allow customers..' and '..they asked me to bring the right products..' - do they doubt their ability to get it 'right'? If they can source the parts, why are they asking the customer to, other than to put on the invoice 'fitted customer supplied parts' or words to the effect of? I'm such a suspicious old git! 🙄 Gaz
  5. 25k on the vRS and 36k on the GTI, so both well shy of the OP's 87k. I'd had both cars since new as well, so had the benefit of knowing their history (the vRS was traded in for the GTI). Of course we can find documented cases, I was simply commenting from my experience, and I don't think the EA888 G3 is particularly notorious for oil consumption. My vRS's turbo grenaded itself at 21k miles and there was an initial question as to whether it had taken the engine with it. It hadn't, and the Skoda tech commented at the time that they're a good, robust engine. I've had cars that would put the Amoco Cadiz to shame in terms of oil usage, but the EA888's are not one of them. Gaz
  6. Sorry to say I'm a bit like @Mickvrs220 in that neither my 2015 vRS 220 (stage 1 to c.310bhp), nor my current 2018 Golf GTI 230, use a drop of oil, so from my experience, no, it's not normal. Gaz
  7. No leaks but no pressure seems to suggest to me that any pressure leak is likely to be happening above the coolant water line, otherwise you'd surely see liquid. Hence suspecting the header tank's lid seal. Being able to control the flaps would indicate it's not a generic code reader being used. Gaz
  8. Do you know what they were scanning diagnostic codes with? Some generic code readers don't capture all relevant fault codes. If it wasn't a VAG related diagnostic tool, maybe get someone with VCDS to have a look for you: Gaz
  9. Did the expansion tank come with a new lid as well? Asking the obvious just to cover the bases. Gaz
  10. Hello and welcome Have you had the car scanned for fault codes? Have you tried resetting the HVAC vent flaps?: With regard to no pressure in the cooling system, has the seal on the expansion tank lid failed? Gaz
  11. Definitely related to Mrs Gaz 🙄
  12. Hello and welcome JESJRA Well it's certainly possible. I seem to recall @ApertureS fitting one (amongst a phenomenal amount of other goodies) in this somewhat epic thread: Out of interest, I was looking for a Superb earlier this year, and was quite surprised at how many didn't have reversing cameras. Gaz PS: Our search facility works quite well:
  13. Next to the Cathedral at Ypres: Gaz
  14. Is anyone else having trouble? I can access my email online and via my phone no problem at all, but mail on my MacBook Pro seems to have given up. I routinely get this message, but then it randomly works okay with no rhyme nor reason: I've gone through everything I can find online and nothing seems to work. Having deleted and reinstated this mailbox (it seems to be only Hotmail that's affected) for the third time, I now get the following message: And now can't get to my email at all via Mac mail 🙄 Any ideas or suggestions gratefully received. Ta Gaz
  15. Does this thread help? Gaz
  16. Little bit o'love goes a long way 👍 G
  17. Will the 23 plate have a longer warranty? The 21 plate has presumably lost more to depreciation. Goodies, or warranty? Do you need heated seats very often in Melbourne?
  18. Does the pinned thread at the top of this section ‘The Mk3 Octavia TDI water pump thread’ answer any of the concerns you raise? Gaz
  19. The cruel irony is that the £39.99 one from a scrapper: Is also from a flash red, '65 plate Polo, just like Mrs Gaz's. What's the betting it was from the same f'kin' pot of paint and would have faded to be a near f'kin' perfect match for Mrs Gaz's? 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 Gaz
  20. Looks a bit like a classic roman sculpture of a bearded man with some groovy sunglasses on: ....wearing a curious space helmet. Don't mind me - too much chocolate G
  21. Epilogue 😐 An Accident Repair Centre came out today and replaced the fuel filler flap assembly in pre-painted flash red. It took him ten minutes. He allegedly tried to polish out the minor paint chips. And said if we're not satisfied to call the office and they'll arrange paintwork. As we all know, fresh flash red is never going to match nine year old flash red. I can see the disparity - it's not awful, but it's there. I've said that if Mrs Gaz is not happy, she should call the ARC and tell them so. I am now in the dog house for not telling Mrs Gaz to not make an insurance claim, even though I did not know she was making one until it was already happening, and my understanding was I'd be getting some 'All Plastics' adhesive to glue the old flap back on with as a first step. Doodle do be doo 🙄 Gaz
  22. 1) Stick with what you already have 2) Avoid anything diamond faced. They may look pretty, but keeping them nice for any length of time is nigh on impossible, and they soon fade with stone chips, brake dust and lacquer peel/damage. Gaz
  23. There's a previous discussion, where Pete confirmed it should be a 20A fuse: Gaz
  24. I win, I win, Yaaayyyyy!!! 😁 My life is that exciting I'm gonna celebrate my contrariness with a well deserved cuppa tea Glad you got it sorted 👍 Gaz
  25. Portland Bill Lighthouse?
