Have you considered having it inspected independently in case of a manufacturing or installation error? Hello Reuben The Mk1 vRS is an enigmatic and brilliant car. Simple enough to look after, and as you've found the PD130 has plenty of grunt. Can't remember who it was now, but someone over on UKPassats remapped their PD130, only to start to discover where the weaker points of the drivetrain were at some expense. If it ain't broke.... (Although in fairness I'm probably going back 15-20 years and remapping has come on a fair bit since then). WRT the wheels, I'd look at what you have. It's surprising how much can be improved with a little DIY, but if they're too far gone, then a good set of spiders can be had for reasonable money. Gaz

Could the burning smell be the engine regenerating?: Smoke from around the engine - do you have any oil leaks? I definitely think parking it up will be for the best. It could all be easily explained away, once it's looked at, but if there's something more serious, then a stitch in time..... Keep us posted as to the outcome 👍 Gaz

This ^^^^ Whichever diesel engine you have, it'll be a belt driving the camshaft and all your valves. If the belt has jumped, that's bad. Once it's jumped (teeth on the cam belt) far enough, you'll start to encounter contact (interference) between the piston and valves. This can often end up being catastrophic - as in engine rebuild or new engine time. I wouldn't be running the engine without knowing exactly what the problem is. Not safe and far too risky in my opinion. Gaz

I've asked a Moderator to look at this for you. I think your question about creep will depend on what engine and DSG combination you have. My DQ250 Golf (2.0 litre) creeps. Mrs Gaz's DQ200 Polo (1.8 litre) also creeps, but a friends 1.2 Fabia with the same DQ200, from the same year as Mrs Gaz's Polo, doesn't creep. The DSG's have differing settings according to what car they're in. Gaz

An intended area to give in certain direction in the event of collision maybe? I could see it pulling things inwards to crumple away rather than towards any impact area. Just a guess mind. Gaz

Hello Bikerzz I agree with Paws - comfortable is so subjective. Mrs Gaz has a 2015 Polo. I'm 6'4" too and find it very cramped to drive. Having had an Octavia and a Superb, for comfort, I'd say Superb all day long There have been some gems for sale on here this very year - if you're handy with a spanner ad paying out for a DSG repair: If you search on here there's a wide range of views on Octavia seats. Mine was a vRS (2015) which I found fine, but a number of people can't get on with them. You'll find far fewer adverse comments on Superb seats. Gaz

Is it soaking up from under the carpet (is the sound deadening wet?) or dripping down on top of it? Has the windscreen been replaced? Are your door drains all clear, running free? I think I'd be checking the door seals, looking for signs of water runs, then looking under the dash and behind the glove box for similar signs if it were me. Also maybe lay upside down in the footwell while someone runs a hose over it. Gaz

No plans to change. Mrs Gaz doesn't like me having two cars, so occasionally mentions selling it and her having my Golf, but she ain't getting her grubby little paws on it! Think I'll bite the bullet on the £118 one from Tayna Gaz
