  1. What I meant was, is it off when the boot is closed, not when you subsequently re-open it. So if switched on, does the act of opening the boot turn it both on (open) and off (closed). G
  2. Does it then go off when the boot is closed? Gaz
  3. Hello and welcome Phil Gaz
  4. Hello Claire Wowzer, 3,500 miles - just goes to show, they are out there! That means it's averaged less than seven miles a week. Which model is it? Gaz
  5. Could it also be from grease someone's put on the mating face between the wheel and hub? I think you'll need to take the wheel off and have a look at what's going on. Gaz
  6. Hello and welcome Brian Gaz
  7. Was it a booked appointment, as in a I want you to do this and I will give you my money for doing it. At which point, on arrival they (initially) said no? WTF - as they say, intelligence has its limits, but stupidity knows no bounds 🙄 Gaz
  8. Depends where you go. My local VW charge £275, Awesome GTI quote £169, and I've seen quotes from £160 upwards. I had a 2015 vRS before my current GTI. Think you might find it's a TSI, not a TFSI. EA888 Gen 3 engine. A good rummage around the Octavia 3 fora on here will give you pretty much all the answers you need. For me, and my car, two relevant areas were the door seals, and the front doors retaining water. And the Silica bag in the coolant header (expansion) tank - if the header tank says 'mit silikat' on it, chances are there's a bag in there, if it's not already been removed. These bags are known to rupture, and the contents block the heater matrix. Getting the bag out is relatively straightforward. Making sure you get hot air from all the air vents is a good check to do. 10. Not sure of the value of using a borescope once the head's off? It's not a dead cert that the head is toast at all, but you won't know without looking. That it was at idle and 'gently stalled' might mean it stopped quicker, which in turn might mitigate the level of damage. Unfortunately it's more likely for there to be damage than not. In the mid '90's my S-i-L snapped the cam belt on her Ford Sierra, and then tried to start it. Expecting the worst I got a replacement head before I started. Once the head was off it was clear the original head was in better condition than the replacement and was easily repaired. You never know - fingers crossed for you 🤞 Gaz
  11. Not the same model, but does this help?: Gaz
  12. Based on personal experience, and 61k miles across two Gen 3's, I beg to differ 🙄 Gaz
  13. Looks like you're local Jeff. I can happily recommend a local mobile indy who knows his stuff on VAG cars. He scanned and confirmed the EPC light on Mrs Gaz's Polo recently, which was just a battery in the twilight of its career. Gaz
  14. Give it chance - could it just be condensation? Gaz
  15. Some potentially useful comments on the CTHE engine here: Gaz
  16. Hello and welcome Pop45 Sorry to hear about your clutch failure - it certainly does sound premature and potentially suspect. Have you considered having it inspected independently in case of a manufacturing or installation error? I'm fairly sure this has come up before, so it would be worth using the site's search facility, e.g.: I'll ask that a Mod considers moving this to the Kamiq section, as more people are likely to see it there. PS: Dorset - my favourite County 😎 We're regulars down to Bridport, around and about. Gaz Edit: Also noticed this while looking: https://www.autoinsider.co.uk/problems/skoda/kamiq/25727/skoda-kamiq-reg-yx20tcv-clutch-and-flywheel-burnt-out-12453mls-cost-me-ps-236422-to-repair-skoda-knew-about-fault-from-recall-nothing-done
  17. Hello Reuben The Mk1 vRS is an enigmatic and brilliant car. Simple enough to look after, and as you've found the PD130 has plenty of grunt. Can't remember who it was now, but someone over on UKPassats remapped their PD130, only to start to discover where the weaker points of the drivetrain were at some expense. If it ain't broke.... (Although in fairness I'm probably going back 15-20 years and remapping has come on a fair bit since then). WRT the wheels, I'd look at what you have. It's surprising how much can be improved with a little DIY, but if they're too far gone, then a good set of spiders can be had for reasonable money. Gaz
  18. Does the light stay on if you remove the specific fuse/relay that covers the main beam? Gaz
  19. Hello and welcome Krister Gaz
  20. Hello Woslxn, welcome aboard Gaz
  21. Not mine, but my Daughter's - she's recently moved and has the benefit of darker skies: Seven Sisters and Jupiter 😎 Taken from an Iphone. Gaz
  22. Would've missed this one, had it not been for a timely intervention from my Daughter in the passenger seat: Gaz
  23. Pre-facelift with the round inner lights 😎 Us Grandpa's much prefer them and that opinion obviously out ranks you by seniority 😁 Gaz
  24. Could the burning smell be the engine regenerating?: Smoke from around the engine - do you have any oil leaks? I definitely think parking it up will be for the best. It could all be easily explained away, once it's looked at, but if there's something more serious, then a stitch in time..... Keep us posted as to the outcome 👍 Gaz
  25. Hello and welcome Vilnius Nice looking Yeti - I prefer the earlier front ends. They have much more character 😎 Gaz
