SOS error - is this normal?
Thanks for replying: You need to get that firmware up to 0480. Please look at the various threads about getting hold of the new firmware. Your maps are also out of date (need updating to 2025).

Glow plug light starts flashing, stops if engine restarted, no OBD error code
One thing I've found that VCDS does a lot better than ODB11 - is that it shows the part numbers of the modules better. This is really good for diagnostic purposes, because you can then cross-reference the (old) part number against a new part number etc.

DRL
Worth first checking electrical connections and making sure that all the earth connections are good and there is no corrosion in any of the electrical connectors. Assume its an LED DRL you are running?? The LEDs do dim when you are turning, just in case you had an indicator on or something like that.

SOS error - is this normal?
What version of firmware do you have? The SOS function can be a bit....tempremental....I've found that an MIB firmware update usually settled it down.

Skoda refuse to service my car!
It was the remainder of a Skoda Service Plan. They tried to upsell a sunroof service for £285. Upsell declined.

Vehicle Warranties
Most aftermarket warranties will now only cover a major mechanical issue. Skoda used car warranties are now out of scope after they reduced the years of age of the vehicle to 6 years. Garages will go with the cheapest cover that can be provided and cover that will give them the biggest kickback in terms of commission. Depends on what your budget is and what you want covered. I'm seeing aftermarket warranty cover being anything from £600-£800 per 24 months / approx £300-400 per year. They all require you to maintain fully comprehensive insurance cover as well as making sure that your electronic service record is maintained (or that you can prove you've had your regular servicing covered).

2013 VRS TDI Estate
I suppose a service history is a good starting place (Skoda or otherwise). Is it a TSI or TDI? Check the fluids; make sure the oil looks reasonable, the coolant doesn't look too watery or cloudy, the heater matrix works fine. Take it for a test drive, any excess road noise or micro-corrections, tracking needs to be done. 4x4 models need the HALDEX serviced every 20-30k miles. DSG gearboxes - need servicing every 40k miles (check for slipage on pickup). Hope you enjoy your test drive....

Octavia RS 5E SW Update Amundsen P0471
I would suggest that your download is possibly corrupt or the transfer of the file onto the SD Card was corrupt. Try re-downloading from your source, and then try a fresh new SD 64G Card formated in FAT32/vFAT.

EGR; delete or replace
Yes, that's excessive. 5Litres of oil every 2500 miles. I think VAG state 0.5l of oil per 1000 miles as acceptable. The issue is that excessive oil consumption has probably blocked the DPF. Suggest getting the engine looked at / compression tested etc as your first priority.

EGR; delete or replace
I would suggest a good clean out - EGR valves don't generally get to their end of life...they just usually need cleaning out. Do you mean DPF? DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter's) do need occassionally replacing, but recommend getting it flushed out first. Suggest running either a tank or two of Super Diesel or some Cetane improved through your car to improve the burn cycle and help clean out the EGR valve and try and keep the DPF cleaner. When was the last time the car did a FULL regen? Can you take the car on a long - 100kms plus / fast run (130kph plus if possible). Short journeys don't work well with the TDI engines.

Issues with driving mode and reversing sensors
Okay - get it checked out. You will need to get the new battery coded in. Suggest something like this as a replacement: https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/bosch/s5a08/ Coding can be done by anybody with a ODBEleven or VCDS.

Issues with driving mode and reversing sensors
Can you check your battery please? Electrical gremlins like these are usually associated with a dying battery. You need an battery tester - look at the CCA rating on the top of the battery. If its anything below 20% of the battery capacity, then it needs replacing. Can you also confirm whether you have stop/start (2013 was a changeover year for Battery Management systems - and depending on whether you have stop/start or not - depends if you have to code in the battery).

Octavia 1.5 TSI 2018DSG Popping & Rattling Noise Cold start
I'm definately hearing a pully bearing sounding rough when the idle dies down when I listen to your initial video again. Can you do us a favour - redo the video you just did when you first reported this issue; do a cold start for us, so we can compare videos if nothing else. Can you also tell us what grade of fuel you are using? Are you able to run a tank or two of 97/99 RON rated Super Unleaded through the car and take the car on a sprited drive - or just a really good blast down the autobahn (don't hold back the horses). The car just sounds - rough - but then again the ACT 1.5 engines were never the most refined.

Skoda refuse to service my car!
No idea...it's a mystery. Still it's now sorted. I'm not going back to any Skoda dealer anytime soon.

Skoda refuse to service my car!
Oh yes, it was a booked appointment alright. I even agreed with the service advisor that there might be just over a 1000 miles remaining but still they complained. Now...if I'd been 1000 miles OVER my mileage then all my warranty would have been voided. You cannot win with Skoda dealers.

Switching from 225/35 R19 to 235/40 R19 tyre on Extreme 19s
I think it's worth finding a tyre with sidewall protection. I'm really pleased with Goodyear Vector 4 Season tyres as they come with the sidewall protection and cope well with rubbish roads, terrible road conditions which we have here in the Scottish Borders.

Skoda refuse to service my car!
Update: they've made an exception in my case.....service has commenced. Why do Skoda dealers make everything SO DIFFICULT......🤬

Skoda refuse to service my car!
Well, this is a first. Took my car in for Service....I said I wanted it serviced slightly early due to some longer journeys I was undertaking. Car is saying that it needs a service in about 1400 miles. Therefore it arrived at the dealers today (for just an oil service...not an extended scope). They refused to service it....point blank. I'm waiting at the dealer for the next hour to see if they will make an 'exception' for me. It seems that Skoda won't authorise a service if it's done sooner than 9 months....news to me (i.e. VAG making up the rules as they go along). Shame the service advisor didn't tell me this before I set out on my 80 miles journey to the dealer. So....stuff the service history. Car has only done 27,800 miles (and it's a MK3, so low mileage). I'll do it myself....f**k the lot of them. So annoyed....I'm planning to keep the car anyway so as long as I have all the paperwork, that's my service schedule and any proof of the car being serviced.

Have you found the Audio, Electronics & Security part of Briskoda yet? In that part of the forum, they have the correct latest map downloads for the appropriate systems.

Drivers Door Window Switch Replacement
The switches can break if they are pushed or pulled with excessive force. They should be light touch, but apprechiate with advancing age, the plastics on MK3's will start to become brittle. Glad you got it sorted though.
