Knocking Mini
Could it be surface corrosion on the disk? There will be a clear patch under the pads and as the edge of that hits the pad there will be a tap sound. Perhaps accentuated by a sticky calliper not initially releasing the pad(s) fully.

Calendar App won’t setup
If other online services are working ok the I guess it’s the gateway at the Škoda servers that’s down at the mo. I used the app for a while and whilst useful it was unfortunately very slow - to the point it was quicker to enter the address directly in to the satnav. As a result I no longer use it.

Lane assist
Can be done via the steering wheel controls. On the right hand spoke the upper button gives access to the Assist Systems. Use the chrome wheel to scroll to Lane Assist then click that wheel to untick the box. After a few seconds the menu will close by itself. AFAIK it can’t be permanently disabled, so has to be done each journey. To turn off the vibration you need to go through the infotainment system. This setting persists.

Connect App
Seems to be working fine for me 0712hrs this morning.

Windscreen Wiper Replacements
I've been looking in to new wipers too, and bought Bosch A331H for the rear and Bosch A860S set for the front off Amazon. The rear fits perfectly. The front set I returned. The driver side blade is 600mm, the original fit on mine (SE L First Edition) is 660mm. The one from the set would fit fine but the swept area is smaller, as I am tall and sit high in the car I need the swept area as high as it can be. I haven't yet bought a replacement but am leaning towards the Bosch A310S set which has a 650mm blade (lower cost than the A860S set too).

Auto unlock
I assumed enabling the auto-unlock when approaching the car also locked it when walking away from it. Never liked the idea so never enabled it. Does this random unlock leave it unlocked or does it re-lock after a short while?

Are the center air vents annoying?
No problem for me, 20+k miles in.

Skoda Connect tells fibs
The privacy settings allow the location to be uploaded to the servers, or not as the case my be. I think th default is not to sync hence a guest user location wont be seen. As I understand it, the ‘authorities’ can override that and track the vehicle. Hopefully your Škoda Connect is now working as you want/need it to. Yes I believe it is, though never tried/proven it.

Skoda Connect tells fibs
Yeah it’s frustrating when smartphone apps act pretty dumb! Only once have I had the unlocked when it is actually locked issue and that coincided with the car being in a location without any internet connection - so it couldn’t sync the status to the servers. Are you using the Android version or iOS? Your comment about the grid showing route planner not car location sounds like a previous version of the iOS app I use. I now get a Navigate tab which has two options - Parking position and Trip planner.

Extended Warranty
Certainly worth the conversation and try to get an extension. It will probably have to come through the dealer and may need approval from Škoda UK - which poses the question of who to talk to first -depends on how well you get on with the service manager at your dealership I guess.

Parking brake
I think you need to put your foot on the brake pedal before releasing the parking brake. There is also AutoHold to experiment with in a similar way to the parking brake.

New software update version 1900
Thanks chaps. In a couple of weeks mine goes in for the flickering gauges fix. Will check if they do this update too.

Mobile phone speedcam app
I reckon we’re broadly in agreement that there is too much poor driving on the roads and too much aggressive behaviour by drivers, as well as over zealous, self righteous self-enforcers. And yes, mobile apps are not the way to go. If the amateur video footage is do poor I don’t understand why it is that police forces invite submissions. For example https://www.hampshire.police.uk/police-forces/hampshire-constabulary/areas/hants-snap/hantsnap/ Perhaps dash cam footage is more suitable evidence.

17 vehicle crash Aberdeenshire. Holy camoly!
Sad to read. Hope injuries are not too serious. This morning on the busy, fast flowing A34, Berkshire, I was grateful for the front assist on the Octavia Mk4. Traffic in my lane up ahead braked hard, I reacted when seeing the van ahead high-level brake light come on - but the Octy reacted quicker than I did and we all came to a halt safely. First time I’ve experienced the assist systems working at/near full potential, and hopefully the last!

Can you get the phone to appear on virtual cockpit?
I’ve not found a setting for it either. I use my phone connected via CarPlay though, and from memory, it’s the same with Android Auto. Never used the traditional (pre CarPlay/AA) type connection in my Mk4. Since I’ve had the latest s/w in my car I now get turn directions via CarPlay in the top centre of VC as well as the Infotainment screen.

Mobile phone speedcam app
Can see where you’re coming from. It’s a shame that the minority over zealous reporters clog the system when there are genuinely dangerous situations which need to be reported and otherwise would go unseen (such as the example I mentioned, the 85mph was on the hard shoulder of a congested motorway). Whilst high speeds are not in themselves dangerous it’s all about context and behaviour of the driver that can make it dangerous, and likely as not when something goes wrong its innocent folk that injured.

2.0 TDI MPG
Fair point, but it did achieve 61mpg over 1000 miles from the Tuscany coast, over the Simplon Pass and finishing up in village high in the Jura mountains, a net climb off about 3000 feet.

2.0 TDI MPG
Hope you enjoy the car, and the drive back. Looks great in that colour 👍

2.0 TDI MPG
Totally agree. Driving style, journey length, road type, traffic conditions all have a bearing on real world figures. Much to my surprise, my 1.5tsi averages are better than the WLTP brochure figures. Overall average since purchase (22,300 miles) : 54.9mpg Best 'three tank' average : 59.98 mpg That three tank average was on a European road trip so most mileage was motorway, autoroute, autostrada at legal limits where traffic and weather conditions permitted (anything from about 60 - 80 mph (100 - 130 kph))

Mobile phone speedcam app
OK Mr Cynic. How about 85mph down the hard shoulder of a congested three lane motorway in a builders van, as recorded on my dashcam? Nobody in their right mind would send in a dashcam footage of 33 in a 30 limit.

Driver system alert
I rely on my bladder to tell me when to stop 🤣

Mobile phone speedcam app
This may well come over as being defensive, but I worked for 20+ years in IT for a UK Govt department - and it's not only their systems that don't have a good track record. Many my peers in private industry had, by their own admission, dreadful systems, and in the case of one energy supplier a director told me couldn't believe how bad their systems were. It is just the case that if its a Govt system then it hits the headlines. BTW - the system I wrote was fantastic 😏 Anyway, back on topic; my local Police had a web site through which dashcam footage could be uploaded - alas every time I went to use it, it was down. @PetrolDave may well have a point....

Petrol flap not opening at all help
Given the flap locks with the central locking sounds like a fault in that system. They should cover that.

Daytime running lights
Yes, you do indeed recall correctly 🙂

Daytime running lights
There is a set of three buttons low on the dash near the drivers door; the right hand one is illuminated with Auto. When the headlights are on there is also a bulb symbol illuminated above the word Auto. Additionally, the infotainment screen (notable the satnav map) changes to ‘night mode’, even in daylight if the headlights are on.
