  1. but the poster clearly wants to use them whether they are mandated or not - perhaps to illuminate the road (bearing in mind he's said driving lights not DRLs).
  2. What makes you say that? Why are driving lights unnecessary in the UK?
  3. Had a laugh last night... SWMBO noticed what music my eldest daughter was listening to and commented that if she liked that sort of music then she might like Gary Moore and I suggested she might like some of the late 80's stuff we have on vinyl and cassette tapes and some of our old 'mix tapes'. I had to explain the last one and eventually dug out an old 1980's walkman, chucked some batteries in it and fired it up... Anyhow, the drive belts were knackered and disintegrated so I took it apart and bunged in a couple of rubber bands. It worked alright but the sound was full of wow and flutter and extremely amusing! Anyhow - new drive belts have been ordered because apparently tapes are making a comeback and my daughter is now interested in having a listen to all things 80's...
  4. Last pic of mine for this summer...
  5. daft question but is there a setting in the apple nav for which side oft he road you drive on? Sounds like it thinks you are driving on the right...
  6. Ah... that'll be the reverse gravity in NZ then?? 🤣
  7. Have you checked out the honda clarity fcv and the hyundai nexo?
  8. its a real good looking car is that EV6
  9. I don't wish to sound obnoxious but you don't do your arguments any favours. Anyhow I'll leave it there as I see you're resorting to your usual distraction discussion tactics...
  10. EV's do brake and still have brakes. 1.6 Tonnes is significantly heavier than, say a Clio at 1.2tonnes. A Kodiaq is not a reasonable comparison against a sprat like the Zoe. However, A Mercedes EQC 4matic might be but is nearly 3 tonnes. The take away is ALL tyres result in NEE emissions, even expensive Michelins and they emit more the heavier the vehicle. As for mis-information - I think you'll find the ERV Evangelists are just as bad. Don't get me wrong - I drive a mild hybrid and will switch to EV as soon as they suit my lifestyle but I don't fall for some of the bull**** that is spouted about them and I have a habit of questioning and looking at the bigger picture beyond the end of my confirmational biased nose. 👍
  11. Clearly you do not understand the Oxbridge system... ALL degrees from Oxbridge, whether sciences, engineering or otherwise were historically BA's and then MA's. as they have only recently switched to using other nomenclatures for certain areas of study. Sad that you use your lack of knowledge to denigrate others.
  12. Sorry - that's a bit too much of an EV 'love-in' piece for me and, interestingly, the 'article' referred to is nowhere to be seen on Transport and Environment's NGO website... which makes me wonder about it's veracity given the number of other articles on there... Correction - I've found it - it's actually just an 'opinion piece' and not a full on study... so no evidence to back it up... Electric vehicles are far better than combustion engine cars when it comes to air pollution. Here’s why - Campaigning for cleaner transport in Europe | Transport & Environment (transportenvironment.org) I say no more...
  13. Apologies - it's a factor of 1000 times more particulates from tyres than from exhausts (I must have held the wrong number in my head as I typed!): Press Release: Pollution From Tyre Wear 1,000 Times Worse Than Exhaust Emissions — Emissions Analytics Even more reason to charge heavier vehicles and EV's for increase NEE emissions... Despite what lol-lol "cannot see"...
  14. An outfit called Anderson, who make home charging points reckon a third of UK households don't have a driveway or garage to install a chargepoint on. However, it varies significantly, with only 1 in 6 (16%) in the countryside not having somewhere, rising to 60% in major towns and cities... Also London accounts for 78% of ALL on-street chargers... so you can guess what that means for the rest of the country, let alone places like Scotland!
  15. If they start doing that then they need to start charging EV's for all the additional PM2.5 emissions from tyres. A recent Emissions Analytics survey showed tyre PM2.5 'emissions' (ie Non Exhaust Emissions) were 5 one thousand times higher than the test vehicle's exhaust emissions over the same journey. However, A typical EV SUV is 2.5tonnes to 3 tonnes vs around 2 tonnes for ICE vehicle and, as an example for cars, a Nissan Leaf is 1.7 tonnes vs 1.4 tonnes for a similar sized ICE vehicle. Factor that in and EV's create more NEE's and should therefore be being charged for the additional NEE pollution they cause...
  16. Haven't used Racingline but did use Shark and as above was very pleased. I have looked on Racinglines website previously but no maps for a 150bhp 1.4TSi Kodiaq listed... only the 125bhp...
  17. According to zapmap the nearest chargers to me are a 46 minute walk away
  18. I think he's in cloud cuckoo land there with that one at the moment! Current guidance for workplace charging points generally specifies 5% to 10% pf spaces tops - and many of those are for future provision and won't have charging statins for years yet
  19. I think it's because they resemble a portal frame...
  20. I think you already have an answer... The cross climates are an excellent tyre and we used them for years on our Octavia 4x4. The only reason we don't still have some on one of our cars is that the Octavia's replacement, a S/H Kodiaq, came with a new set of the Falken's I mentioned earlier fitted. However the Swift we had is looking like it will need tyres very shortly and unfortunately the Michelins aren't available in the size needed. Given this I'll probably be looking to use some Vredestein Quatracs which are, having had excellent experiences of the brand in the past. They may be an option for you on your existing 17s as they tend to be a cheaper option than the Michelins, making up for the additional cost of the larger rim size
  21. I believe JR was actually referring to homologated rim diameter and width and tyre width / profile and speed rating, as opposed to a specific manufacturer and tyre...
  22. Another option for you - Falken Azenis FK510: Falken AZENIS FK510 215/50 R18 92W SUV @ mytyres.co.uk We have them on our Kodiaq and whilst I was dubious at first they are proving to be a very good tyre
  23. This is going to sound daft but I have a vague recollection that in one of the radio settings you need to tick a box to enable AM reception...???
  24. Probably both but they need to be bright enough and positioned correctly to illuminate the area you are reversing into in the dark...
  25. Good thinking... I'll try that next time.
