  1. I would beg to differ based on around 250,000 miles in Skoda Diesels and a similar further mileage in various petrol vehicles, all of which have been run almost exclusively on the cheapest supermarket fuel available. As an aside I have also quizzed a friend about the above assertion, he being a Chemical Engineer and production controller for TOTAL and someone who has worked as a 'troubleshooter' in oil refineries around the world. His response was (paraphrased) - all the UK stuff is the same stuff to the same standards with largely the same additives, coming from a small number of refineries. So 'supermarket' fuel or not it's the same, so if someone experiences an issue it's being caused by something other than the 'quality' of the fuel. The one exception to this is something like the contaminated fuel issues experienced a couple of years ago.
  2. indeed - i remember as a site engineer looking at them for use on site instead of land rovers... and that was the best part of 25 to 30 years ago...
  3. Those Varta's are excellent batteries though - I've used them for as long as I can remember and, once fitted to replace a OE battery have never had to replace them again during my ownership (which usually runs to over a dozen years)
  4. I reckon it must be something to do with the angle of the rear hatch and that when parked facing up hill any water can drain down the inner face of the tailgate rather than onto the main bodywork of the car where the rubber seal is located and that's why it's finding different pathways into the car.. Your approach is the same as the one I used on our old Octavia that sprung a similar leak - it had adjustable strikers fitted to either end of the lower lip of the tailgate so I cut small notches in them so any water could drain out. However, I'm going to persevere with the bellows etc. for the time being as I've just checked the car again and it's dry after sealing round them yesterday - so it may be worth you checking your out as well. I've done another bead / smear round them again today just to be on the safe side given one of them didn't seem quite as 'solid' as the other. It's a bit messy given it's a tricky place to get at but if it works I'm not too fussed as it's not an area that's easily seen. If it doesn't work then it'll probably be 'plan B' and the bungs will be coming out like on yours. Interestingly whilst I was messing around with it again today I noticed the metalwork on the main car body is actually raised slightly where the bellows fit whereas the same area on the tailgate isn't - it's almost as if they've tried to create a ridge in the metalwork on the main body to divert any drips away from the bellows.
  5. Website below any help? https://technoluxpro.com/en/akkumulyatory/avtomobilnye/rasshifrovka-markirovki-varta.html That would suggest 14th November 2006
  6. The 'clocks' are probably your best bet but is there an engraving on it anywhere - the place I get my batteries from always engraves their postcode and the date of sale on the case.
  7. Right - this leak is starting to annoy me now as it seems random! Dry again this morning despite torrential rain last night... so I do wonder if it varies depending upon whether /when / how the tailgate is opened / closed... Anyhow I've now run a smear of sealant round where the bellows connect to the metalwork on all four locations. The only potential downside is that in trying to remove one to potentially get a better seal between the rubber and metalwork one of the 'clips' that holds the part attached to the tailgate broke on one of them! Clearly they are only meant to be fitted and not removed! Bloody annoying but my own fault for trying to be clever and check if things inside were damp / do things properly rather than botch. That side went back OK but was a bit 'loose' so is now being held in position by some foam trapped between the tailgate and bodywork until the sealant cures. Hopefully this will be enough to create something watertight.
  8. ok... so torrential rain today and we have a wet boot again... so I took a closer look at the bellows and they do seem 'loose'... so I'll be sealing them the next time we get a dry day. Funnily enough it only seems to leak when parked on our sloping drive pointing uphill... Edit:. Daft question but presumably the bellows just push over a plastic fitting that is clipped to the metalwork so it's just a case of easing them off to reseal?
  9. Thanks - will bear that in mind. As you suggest they 'look' intact but no doubt a run of sealant wouldn;t go amiss... Touch wood though - it seems to have been dry today despite some very heavy rain... so fingers crossed it was the lights. Time will tell!
  10. Sounds like a dodgy seller to me... I've been using compatible cartridges in Canon Bubblejet printers for as long as I remember and never had an issue with them. They used to come from 7dayshop.com but now I get them from inkredible.co.uk...

There is... early to mid 2022... same chassis and tech but new exterior styling and new interior. Mzkes it a much better looking option... https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-news/first-official-pictures/mg/5-ev-electric-estate/
  12. Well it leaked a lot again yesterday in the torrential rain we had... so today I took both tailgate lights out and discovered the right hand one looked to have a few water marks behind it. I also got a damp finger when feeling inside the metalwork to fish out the light connector block - so that's gives me the impression that's where the water has been getting in. I therefore cleaned up the rubber / foam sealing strips on both lights, applied a bead of RTV gasket sealant to the metalwork where the seals seat (easier than handling a light unit with uncured sealant) and refitted both light units. Touch wood the leak will now be fixed. For info though - on my 2018 SE there was no pre-fitted light wiring/socket/connector for the nearside inner light unit, which is just a dummy - so that's scuppered my plan to retrofit the higher spec inner lights from an SE-L to get a second revering light.
  13. Interesting... As those quotes were from April 2021 and for parts only. I did check with an independent re fitting and as noted they weren't too concerned having done a few A3s etc before.
  14. I needed this replaced on my Octavia. A febi bilstein doughnut was around £100 and fitting looks relatively straightforward. However Skoda will only sell you the full propshaft at about £750!!

if it's the same as my Kodiaq and other current Skodas... 1. correct unless you've ticked a box for some sort of 'upgrade' (eg reversing camera) 2. not as far as I can make out
  16. Hi Michael, As mentioned above there's a few of us in Sheffield on here (including the site owner ColinD). I reckon your Kodiaq is probably a bit posher than mine... ;-)
  17. Looks like this has had a significant redesign inside and out for 2022 as well. Edit... In fact the 2022 model looks significantly better and less 'dowdy' etc. When compared to the original 2017 design basis. The tech in the EV side of things is probably good .. it just needs a better purpose designed platform to put it in to.
  18. Just read some of the threads on here re the software issues with the Octy mk iv thatbare still being resolved or remain unresolved... Personally i wouldn't go near an Octy mk iv with a bargepole after reading some of them!
  19. The linerscalso stop things rattling (and i hate rattles) so ive lined the glove boxes, the sunglasses holder and cubbies ☺️
  20. That's your answer then
  21. Can't confirm as I have an older kodiaq but for reference speaker cloth is great for making liners (used it in our Fabia, Octavia and now the kodiaq
  22. Was it very cold and did you have lots of 'electrical load' switched on (lights, heater, heated windows, heated seats etc.). If so then that's probably why...
  23. we've got power but others haven't... but we do have a few inches of snow as well which would put me off using a chainsaw... knowing my luck id chop something off i didnt want chopped off.
  24. Yep. I recall a post on another sitelong ago suggesting finding leks byremoving trim and dusting the inside of panels with talcum powder so any drips or water runs show up... Im not quiteat that stage yet.
