I have an old style full fat talex and the subscripton ran out in about March time.

I had a cheeky go at updating it yesterday and to my suprise I know have the latest database on my Talex.

Is there any advantidge in me taking up Mr. Blairs very nice offer and having a new Talex.

i personally would so you have a device that is covered by warrenty, if he is doing the trade in offer i would take it especially if you device is about to (or has) packed up.

Once i get mine i will be able to give the low down on it and say what i really think, but till i get one i cant comment on what has changed or if its actually better (apart from the blue led lights and new case and more locations to store).

For those of you who can see no improvements with the recent New' Talex spec, then on the Talex site *BRAND NEW* Talex it lists this new feature:

‘Unique Position Locator

Should you breakdown, just press the unique position button and the Talex will give your exact location co-ordinates (and even your altitude!) so that you can relay these to rescue services or your breakdown recovery company. This is a great peace of mind when driving in an area you are not familiar with.’

Also,

Does anyone know the normal full price of the 'New' Talex before the £60 part exchange offer on the emails? The on-line order form requests £67 so does this mean you can send your old one back and only pay £7?

*BRAND NEW* Talex shows the full price as £127, so the £67 is after the part exchange offer.

Position indicator was a feature of the old full fat talex and IIRC other devices can do it too. Plus if I'm driving in an area I don't know then I'll have sat nav with me so that can give me my GPS co-ordinates.

As I said before even their website mentions an evolution, which could just mean a new case and a connector for plug in devices.

the novus update also gives those functions on a talex lite, when stationary announce the current position as a latitude and longitude, and when moving a direction indicator, a bearing in degrees and height above sea level.

Does anyone know if they will produce an overlay for the Tom Tom ?

The previous one was excellent but is not available anymore now the subscription on mine has expired.

afaik the tomtom one was scrapped, a lot of people from reading on here had problems with it making the unit slow and crashing etc.

The old talex has all the functions you mentioned above, so nothing new there. i beleive most speed camera detectors have a gps location thing for if you breakdown, built into them.

Anybody got a 'New' Talex yet and tried it out?

ive got one today, will post something in a different thread in a while ;)

New Talex database out today, version 8084 and is 3380592 bytes.

yes out early today. spoke to them about the firmware update for the new talex and things are going to be added and changed on the new talex over the coming weeks :D

file size of 8084 is 3380592 bytes full fat

Do you use the same firmware image for the "all new" and the "original full fat" talex devices?

no two different updaters *BRAND NEW* Talex the new one doesnt display how big the update is but seems to update quicker. the new one also requires the email address of your account as well as the device number each time it updates.

Ok so the tools are different, but is the firmware file the same?

the update for the new one from what i can gather from talex is different thus the recent databse purge i mentioned about a month a go, it was needed so it could be converted to the new talex and at the same time cover the old talex (one database converted into two).

Done an update on my full fat today, update number now 8085

same here size is now 3381008 bytes.

Just updated my Elite with Novus and it's still out of date. We had some yellow vultures removed about 2 weeks ago which are still on the database.

Just been on to do my down load for my Novus Rider and Novus have changed their web site. They have a lot more produts and information on there. Looks very professional. www.novusgps.com

Looking at the dates for the Alpha I had the early August one. I'll throw the recent one on it soon and see what that gives.

Just taken a look at the new site, does look much better.

yes I also agree the Novus site does look better.

Has anyone had any problems of missing camera's etc on the Novus Database and has it detected everything?
