Talex/Novus Database Discussion

Featured Replies

Well we've just completed a round trip from the north east of Scotland to Leeds and I thought I'd report back.

Before setting off on Friday I updated my Talex Lite with the latest Talex database and my Garmin sat nav with the new Pocket GPS World database.

On this 700 hundred mile trip the sat nav performed flawlessly picking up every fixed camera and active mobile site. The Talex was less impressive missing completely one GATSO on the A68 and two active mobiles on the A1.

If I'd been speeding and relying solely on the Talex I'd be waiting for the Notices of Intention to Prosecute popping through the letter box!

your experience is generally the same as mine, the talex propaganda does not pan out in reality :)

No database can get mobile locations 100% correct... ;)

Announcing The *Brand New* Talex

“You have just found the Best

Value Speed Camera & Mobile Speed

Trap Detection System in the UK...”

The *BRAND NEW* Talex will

ensure that You Never get a Speeding

Ticket ever again!

And that's taken directly from the Talex website. Have a look here *BRAND NEW* Talex

i would suggest emailing AB and asking him to explain that comment as i for one would be interested, in the brochure it does have a disclaimer to cover their a$$es from customers suing them for their speeding tickets etc.

Did you contact talex? and is this there a second camera further up the A68 which has just been removed possibly RTA damage? if so from what i gathered yesterday when i spoke to talex it was too late to include it in last weeks database and if it is the one that you said was missing will be in this weeks update.

I reckon next time you do the route compare talex v novus v pgps

Anyone want a talex lite to swap for a new one? It's cluttering up my desk so if you want it PM me.

It's free you just have to cover postage.

i would suggest the for sale section for a wider audience mate ;)

cheers, didnt expect much change this week with the snow, got a couple to let them know of and to remind them of a speed limit change to see if it be added next week.

Had a trip to the Lake District yesterday and found a couple of flaws in the new database, firstly travelling north on the M6 there are bridge works near Lancaster, Warned me about the first speed cam but not the second or third, Also coming back southbound there is an average speed protection zone (same site) there was no warning of the average speed zone although it did warn me of the camera just near the end of it, average speed cams were on the bridges this cam was a stand alone.

As I don't travel this route that often I haven't bothered to inform Talex as it would mean stopping the car and getting the GPS locations.

Just thought I'd warn other users out there of this route.

It's not for sale, it's for free and I thought I'd offer it on the thread as these people use Talex still.

It's going in the bin at the weekend anyway as I'm having a clear out, so I figured rather than bin it i'd let somebody use it on exchange to save some cash.

Doesn't actually bother me either way.

I'll take it if its still going?

lee were they monitron cameras?

Hi, Yes they were Monitron Camera's (just had to look them up to see what they looked like) but yes it was. Why?

one of our drivers was up that way and i asked him ;) but couldnt see no spec cameras.

Talex database now on 9023, file size 3371136. An increase of 1344bytes.

i was wondering if it would be bigger this week, cheers!!

Well at long long last I've got around to updating my Talex Lite using Novus v9023. Not used Novus before, so I'll see how it goes on a trip from N Warks to Hull on Monday.

ps Anyone know if SPECS work in the dark? Can they read plates through headlamp glare?

yes specs works in the dark. did a trip today somerset way talex did miss one mobile, but the other database seemed to be non existant, so my theory that some databases are better in some areas to others is correct going by what ive seen written on this thread.

Latest Talex database now on V9024 file size 3370064 bytes, a reduction of -1072 bytes since V9023.
