Not a lot of people realise this I assume?[/quote']

This is true...and you don't need a specialist either!

Everything which is done is detailed in the service booklet, and it basically involves changing the oil and looking at a few things, none of which are especially advanced.

The diagnosis equipment is a bit trickier to find at an independent, but getting a copy of VAGCOM isn't that difficult...

Let's all be honest here .............the ONLY reason that we take our cars to the main dealer for servicing is to maintain the warranty , ok , you don't have to go to a main dealer for servicing , but if you needed a warranty claim we all know that they would try get out of it by saying that your car hasn't been maintained by an authorised dealer !

So in reality(assuming normal mileage) you only need go to the main dealer a maximum of twice , 10K and 20K services , ...........at the 30K , 3 year point your warranty has expired anyway , so take it to your local independant garage who won't charge you

David Ian used to be an independant when I lived there....

Hmph, who does "normal" mileage these days?

I do about 20kpa on a "normal" year.

So that's 5 or 6 services for me before I part ex it in 3 years!

I think I'll be looking into the legalities of vat registered independent garages doing the work whilst retaining the warranty.

Anyone got the number for the DTI?
