  • Although dealers may indeed give differing stories as to build dates and arrival at dealer there is a mitigating reason for this. Two cars may be built on the same day and trained upto Emden together

Only if you've got more money than sense! Use ordinary unleaded, don't give the bloody Chancellor anymore of your damned money!

Yep, I had the same issue this morning with the free 7 day Skoda insurance. Sat on the phone for an hour, then had to wait until 3pm for them to get the details to my dealer so they could tax it ready for collection (I was supposed to be collecting it at 12pm). So probably a good job you're not collecting until tomorrow.

Anyway, I've got mine now and it's lovely

Oh, and looks like some lucky chap was picking up a vRS Estate... in, you guessed it, race blue, from the same dealers.

So close to 1st Jan, I think I would have waited the couple of days for a 2010 registration.

Does any one know how long it takes SUK to get a build date for the car as my order was placed for a vrs in Nov and rang dealer before xmas and was told that SUK had accepted the order but no build week was showing yet??

Thanks

Mike

Same here. Placed order on the 14th November and spoke to my dealer in Edinburgh about a build date, none as yet. Had time to add the spare wheel to the order as well, thanks to the persuation of another post :) Anyway, from what I understood, mine will probably arrive sometime end of Feb/March. I'm sure I will get a 10 plate now, seeing the delays everyone has been getting. Can't wait to get it though!

Got a question to anyone out there with new FL VRS's, does the new FL VRS have the new Sound System door cards with the extra speakers?

Not in the UK.

I ordered mine on the 5th of December and have a build date of 2nd week of Jan. Wouldn't mind it slipping a couple of weeks as I'm wanting to register it on 1st of March and would ideally like the time it's sitting at the dealers minimised.

Not everyone can if the car was consigned before 14th dec... well, you can if you want to pay the VAT difference yourself but that's going to offset any difference in residuals in 2-3 years time.

Only done 50 miles but I'm absolutely loving it. My point of reference was moving from a 15 YO 1.4L Escort on the scrappage scheme. I'd also had a 1.4TDI Fabia estate loan car for a month from the dealers whilst waiting for mine. I was on a tight budget and got this car for less than 13K, we'd also looked at the likes of the Hyundai i30 estate. I was a little worried if I'd made the right choice with the 1.9TDI - would I find it overly agricultural (the 1.4TDI fabia was really rough in comparison) or would I be craving a remap and regretting not going for the 2.0TDI. I'm amazed how smooth the engine is - I barely know it's a diesel, it's quiet and has so much pull down low - not at all like the 1.4TDI in the Fabia that was noisy, rough and had absolutely nothing below 2000rpm which meant you were constantly hunting through the gears. And I have all the big boy toys too - the excellent Bolero radio, plus the essentials like remote central locking and power steering (don't forget I'm coming from a 15 year old escort with nothing so I'm easily pleased!)

Running it in makes me laugh - keep it below 3000rpm they say... you'd have to drive it like a 17 year old to get it above 3000rpm anyway. Now where did I leave my pipe and slippers

Overall, my initial impressions are that I'm hugely impressed. This is simply a stunning family estate car for less than 13K.

Build date is confirmed quite quickly it is then confirmed and fixed at 4 weeks before the estimated build date. then about 2 weeks on the boat to the UK and a few days at the dealer. 3 weeks in total. approximately.

my order: 1st October

build week 51

delivery is estimated in the 3rd week of Jan

15 weeks

First contacted the dealer to order a vRS on 10/09/09, got a build week of 50/52 on 07/10/09, collecting the car on 02/01/10.

Can't wait emoticon-0100-smile.gif

Still waiting for the dealer to let me know either that it's on a boat or that it's arrived.

aaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh

still little contact from the deeler get hold of them eventually only to miss the call back so answerphone says mine has slipped back about 2weeks, ordered 30th Oct was told 1st or 2nd week in Jan, but now being told last week in Jan or 1st week in Feb, to be honest i'd be happy with that but am going to see if they can let it slip another month and get the new reg (not that i am that fussed really but its worth a go)

Something i dont understand though, is i am told there is no problem at the factory and they are upping or have upped production etc, so how can your car slip back a few weeks here and there? surely if you order, you join the que and your car will be built when it gets to the front of that que? the only reason i can guess for the "slippage" is if they make certain models and then re-tool or whatever to make another run of a different model. but as i understand it my VRS is built in a different factory to some of the other cars?

That's quite interesting, as I spoke to the salesman after my post and he told me my car will be built on week 4, having put my order on the 14/11/2009. Maybe my friendly dealer put my order in with less priority as I told I would be particularly happy to get a 10 plate if my oprder was going to take a long time to arrive. Or could it be because of the option list I asked for (all options except sunset glass, as I will get this done once I receive the car)?

Cars seem to arrive in a right mixed up order, there doesn't seem to be any kind of pattern to it all. Some of it is down to the dealers allocation.

The order on the 30th October might slip into Feburary if peoples experiences here are anything to go by.

Placed an order on the 21/12/09 for a vRS TSI manual Estate in black. Dealer told me it will be about 10/12 weeks. I'm not sure this is realistic given what I have read here?

Could be but allow 14/15 weeks and you will not know until about 4 weeks before actual build.

If you are unsure that you are getting the true info from your dealer, obtain the comms number (order no.) off them and ring SUK. The new order tracking computer is available to them.

I've rung them every week to keep abreast of my order progress

Does the dealer have to make the changes you request to the software before it is delivered to you?

Like cornering fogs, teardrop wipe etc?

Dealer phoned this afternoon full of enthusiam to say our Octavia Estate 1.8tsi SE DSG Corrida Red with vari boot floor, leather pack, full size spare and sunroof has just arrived. He seemed a bit taken aback when I said in no hurry to collect as prefer keep motoring in our trusty old Subaru Forester S Turbo as it's good in the present snowy condition and doesn't matter too much if we bend it!.

We ordered ours on 25/09/09 – quoted build week 49- so thats 15 weeks from order to arrival at the dealers. We expect to collect it on Tues/Weds next week and will probably leave it in the drive if still poor weather as keeping the Foz until we decide what to do with it.

10th November 2009: Deposit paid/order sheet filled out, deal made. Fixed trade in price. Est. delivery: December/January.

15th November 2009: Attempt to change order to add full leather

23rd November 2009: Order sucessfully changed to add full leather. Est. delivery: January.

14th January 2010: Got a build date! Week 4.

So, mine will be a week 4 build. Any ideas how from build to handover to customer? I'm hoping it'll pass the end of Febuary so I can get a 10 plate. :)

Around 3 weeks seems typical, so if it's built in week 4, I'd estimate you'll get your hands on it around 15-20th Feb (week 7)

From build to handover is about 4 weeks but there are things that could shorten this

On mine from build to delivery to Emden to ferry to Grimsby was only 6 days but then it got 'stuck' in Grimsby for 17 days because of snow and Xmas/New Year, but SUK said my car was being 'checked over'emoticon-0104-surprised.gif

On the other hand your car could be held up at Emden waiting for a ferry

Your new car will be a '10' plate

If you want a 10 plate and it arrives in Feb, just ask them to sit on it for a week or so. If they try to force you to take it before, check the terms on the contract - I think it says you have to take delivery of the car within so many days/weeks so it should be clear how long you can delay.

If you search back on this thread somewhere there was something put up about that, i think it was about 3 weeks from build date to having the keys in your hand
